James was asleep, but he didn't know that. He was still thinking about stars for some reason - perhaps it was the charm he held tightly in his hand back in the physical world. Maybe, but probably not.

Slowly, as he slept, his soul was forced to float above his body and face a door. This door was black with a strange silver handle and the glowing relic about his neck seemed to beckon him towards it.

James didn't think twice about obeying the compulsion. It was a dream, and you didn't question the innate logic. He reached for the handle, and pushed the door open.

On the other side of the door was what looked like a room with no ceiling, just a simple blanket stretched on the floor with a pillow beside it and a woman laying limply across it. She seemed to only be in a coma, though not breathing. No sign of how she'd ended up in this state lay about but the relic glowed and seemed to draw him towards her.

James hesitated when he saw the prone figure. He felt an unexpected pity. Was she dead or merely sleeping? He couldn't tell, but the compulsion lead him forward. He meant no disrespect when he reached out to her - he felt nothing but an odd, compassionate concern. He hoped very badly she was still alive, though he couldn't say why.

When he touched her, the body glowed, causing his relic to shoot from his neck and into the figure. The former comatose person became a mass of light, shrinking until finally it'd achieved a much smaller state. When the figure stopped glowing there before him was now a little girl, quite awake.

Frightened that he'd done something wrong, James backed away, shielding his eyes. When the lights dimmed to a comfortable level, he dared look at the body again.
"...ah," he said, looking at the child. "Hello."
The child looked back, and her smile was beatific.
"Hello," she parroted.
James grinned, and held out his hand. The girl took it without prompting, small fingers intertwining with his. Behind him, the door reappeared, and the dream-logic gave him a nudge forward.
"Well, that's that then, isn't it?" he asked the girl as they walked hand in hand to the door.
"That's that."
And together, they walked through the door.
