Personality layout courtesy of Karma_K.

Given Name: Kikushou - 菊俏
Elemental Name: N/A
Lucidity: N/A

Birthdate: 8-30 T713
Birthplace: Horn's Mirror, Toukoku

Age: 7
Height: 3'9"
Character: Friendly
Talent: Spending
Occupation: N/A

Sun Sign: The Judge. (Outgoing, magnanimous, concerned with justice and community)
Moon Sign: The Water Bearer. (Kindly, eccentric, intelligent, flirtatious, not always reliable)

Mother: Yuushou, Lucid Fire.
Father: Kikuka, Dreaming Wood.
Spouse: N/A

Likes: Shopping, listening to other people, being thanked and appreciated.

Dislikes: Making mistakes, disappointing people, feeling alone.

Interests: Dolls, fashion, jewelry and accessories, watching dance-drama.

Health issues: Early osteoporosis if her predisposition is not discovered and treated.

Romantic inclinations: Imagines she would like a husband someday so she can dress him up in really pretty clothes.

Personality: Kikushou is extremely kind-hearted and generous, characteristics that are admired in young women, but she has also far more nervous energy than is desirable. Desperately desiring to become the best of friends with everyone she meets, she will shower him with attention, genuine compliments, and extravagant gifts; her eternal hope is make others feel happy and welcome. However, her tremendous enthusiasm often backfires; she sometimes comes across as hyperactive, a bit pushy, or invasive of other people's privacy. Some of the daughters of lower-ranked Ladies may also snip that her queenly elegance and generosity is an affectation, speculating that her kindness only for show -- accusations which are certainly not true but still hurt Kikushou deeply. When she feels she has failed or been rejected, her buoyant, chipper, sometimes even manic mood is shattered and she withdraws into herself, agonizing over her mistakes and cutting herself down perfectionistically. These intense mood swings -- which she tries to hide, not so much out of embarrassment than a genuine desire not to upset or disturb others -- are a concern to her mother, though when Yuushou reminds Kikushou that mommy will always love her no matter what, it doesn't seem to make her anxiety much better.

Lately, things have become even worse due to the increased difficulty of her studies at the Palace; Kikushou has trouble with the conventional scholarly arts, and when she fails to master some piece of material she becomes depressed, feeling as if she has let her teachers down personally. However, the friendship of Souyuu, who, like Kikushou, is regal and elegant but much calmer and more easy-going, has been a great support.

Though a near-perfect young lady in demeanor, Kikushou also has trouble managing her own resources -- not only the monetary but also the physical and emotional ones. As Yuushou has always provided her with everything she ever wanted, Kikushou does not know how to budget herself; though she actually buys little for herself, when she makes a new friend she cannot contain her urge to shower him with gifts. Furthermore, whenever someone is sad or needs assistance, Kikushou wishes to rush to his aid even if she doesn't have the time, energy, or mental or emotional stamina to afford to do so. If Kikushou were ever to become separated from her mother, these would be likely to pose serious problems...

Kikushou is the daughter and only child of Yuushou, a prominent Lady of the Court who, by 720, rose to the Ministers of the Court. Although Yuushou had originally wished for a vast household full of girls and boys, her labor was so difficult that doctors recommended she consider making Kikushou her last. She ultimately followed their advice; perhaps disappointed that her dream could not come true, she went on to completely spoil Kikushou, her darling flower, who she came to love more than anything else in the world.

Kikushou herself had an extravagantly comfortable childhood; Yuushou was the richest woman in the large port city of Horn's Mirror on the north coast of Toukoku, and she spared no expense raising her only daughter. Kikushou always had the best food, clothing, toys, and environment money could buy, as well as an allowance well beyond what is socially acceptable to give a small child. For all this pampering, though, Kikushou did not become petulant or demanding; rather, she always wished to emulate her magnanimous mother, and to this day spends almost all of that enormous allowance on gifts for others.

Well-connected and capable Yuushou has been especially favored by First Imperial Princess Souken of late, and it is due to this friendship that when Yuushou's family moved to the Capital City, Kikushou was allowed to study with the daughter of Second Imperial Princess Soukyou, Souyuu, who was also Kikushou's cousin, under the best tutors available to the Court. There Kikushou and Souyuu have been for the past three years, blossoming into exquisitely eloquent and polite young princesses.

Kikushou has very good days and very bad days. This one was of the latter category. Her mother had departed with a group of other Ladies on an inspection of a nearby town, and so she had not had anyone at her side for the past week when she was not only teased by a group of girls in the middle of the marketplace, rejected by a noblewoman's son who would not accept the brooch she bought for him, and then released early by her tutor who, after she had failed to recite the passage she was supposed to have memorized even after receiving an extra week to study, had taken off his monocle and rubbed his eyes, sighed, and then told her to run along for the afternoon and enjoy the pleasant summer weather.

Instead of following his advice, she had climbed to nearly the top of the astronomers' tower. When her legs got tired, she sat down by a window, looking out over the palace grounds below, too far away for anyone to look up and notice the little girl's thin trickle of tears.

She was really no good, was she? She couldn't befriend those people no matter how hard she tried, she made someone uncomfortable again, and she just wasn't smart at all... When her mother was home to pick up after her, to guide her along step-by-step and do almost everything for her, things were okay, but when she was on her own, her failures were too obvious to hide. She was already seven and could not do anything on her own... she knew her mother's only daughter, her only hope, was due to repay all that love and generosity only with disappointment.

... It was a long way down from there, and perhaps...

... Kikushou pressed her hand against her forehead as if that way she could stop up her tears. No, no, no, those things were not true; it was the crazy talking to her again. She was just feeling sad again, and fairly soon she would be back to normal, working hard at becoming a Lady. She rose to her feet, as if to reaffirm that she would soon get back on her feet mentally, and turned to begin back down the stairs, to return to her room and go through those lines two or three more times.

But just as she turned, someone collided with her -- not as if they were pushing her, but more as if a scholar in a rush had bumped into her accidentally. Yet the push was so forceful and at such an angle that Kikushou lost her balance, falling backwards, and screaming as the decorative slats covering the window failed to support her weight; there was a blur of black and gray as she found herself falling rapidly through the air, a sensation so terrifying she could not help blacking out from fright.

... However, when she awoke, she found herself not a spirit of the Silver World after becoming a bloody mess in the Golden World, but lying in some homeowner's newly-made (and and newly-destroyed) flowerbed, a bad bruise on her shoulder and some splinters stuck to her clothes, but quite alive, otherwise uninjured -- and alone.

Mother: Yuushou, Lucid Fire - Kikushou was very close to her mother, who was her closest friend and her main source of support. Without this strong presence in her life, Kikushou is torn between pining for her mother, and trying to be like her.

Father: Kikuka, Dreaming Wood - Kiku doesn't know much about her father, just that he was someone her mother loved very much. When he fell ill, he left for Kokoku to recover, but has been gone for quite some time. Kiku wonders if he'll return and miss her.

  • Hitsuga - Master Hitsuga, the perfumer. He helped me when I first arrived. He's so very pretty and polite! I wonder why he doesn't have a wife yet? Surely someone must have noticed him by now!

  • Kaijuu - A dragoncat from the Golden World. While she's not sure where the cat came from, Kiku found her hiding underneath the udon-ya and brought her home. So far, the cat seems to have a penchant for biting and clawing... but Kiku loves her, regardless.
