Meirou stormed out of the apartment that day, all three letters in hand, to go find the 'little bird' for some answers. Why?! Why would such pathetic boys send her letters without signing them?! Perhaps they were afraid of being clobbered by her books, or being horribly embarrassed to the point of dying. After all, the girl had grown since she had arrived in the Sil-...Space Danish.
That was the one thing she hadn't learned yet, and wished to. But for now, she gently knocked on the door of the High Priest's room, calming down a bit and projecting a quiet hello, if Kouyo was there.

The room was silent for several long minutes, but perhaps just as Meirou is starting to think that the priest was not in his apartment, the door opens. Kouyo's smiling but decidedly sleepy-looking face peers out around in the space between door and frame as he greets the young lady politely, then pulls the door open to invite her in as he turns away to modestly straighten his robes.
Inside, the room is small but comfortable, largely devoid of furniture. A folding screen much like the one in Setsushi's home in Gaia sections off one corner of the room, and through a couple holes in the paper, Meirou might be able to see a bookshelf and the pile of blankets that the priest had occupied until just a few moments ago.
Once Kouyo's clothing is straightened again, he gestures with both his mind and an open hand that she is welcome to take a seat on one of the cushions surrounding the low table in the more public half of the room.
"How are you, Miss Meirou? How are your studies?" he inquires softly and with a small smile. "Shall I prepare tea, or a small snack for you?"

Meirou steps in, giving a more calm greeting to her friend as she smiles, observing his nice apartment. While she enjoys the empty space, she can't help but feel slightly lonely with seeing the emptyness.
Taking a seat at the table, sitting modestly, she nods again.
"I am fine. The schools here are much harder, but I have finally caught up, for the most part." She adds, being honest about it. "It took quite a while, but at least it hasn't been as bad lately." She gently sets the letters upon the table, evidently frustrated with them. "However more recent times have been....troubling." However, upon the mention of tea and snacks, she perks up. "Tea would be lovely."

The priest sets a pair of cups and three tins of tea on the table, apologizing that he does not have quite the selection here that Setsushi does back in Gaia. Then he fills the tea kettle, and carries it in both hands rather than by the handle, warming the water as he returns to the table.
Kouyo has acquired more practical clothing since coming to this other Silver World, but he still gestures as though holding long trailing sleeves out of the way out of habit as he pours water for Meirou, then himself. Then he settles down opposite her at the table, sending a small, shy warm feeling to her.
His gaze trails to the letters on the table, then back to the steam rising from his teacup - by her frustrated feeling, Kouyo gathers he should not inquire about how the Red Festival went for her. Has Meirou been enjoying school, if it is challenging for her? he instead inquires. Between her studies and Kouyo's work, they have not really had much time to really talk at length.

Meirou sits quietly, watching the steam rise instead of her host. Ah....She has obtained some new clothes as well. Or rather, she had to. Meirou has grown up more than she expected in the past few months. The girl trails off, caught up in her thoughts again until he questions her.
School has been fun, though there are days where it seems horrible, and others where it is the most wonderful thing she has experienced. That is normal, after all. However.....recently things have been much more distracting, and the Red Festival has been proof of that.

Kouyo agrees that Meirou seems to be growing up into quite the lovely young lady. He remembers his own time at such an age only vaguely, and of course he imagines it is far different for a lady than for a silly boy like little Kouyo, but he imagines not all of her troubles are different from what he went through. Regardless of how, boys and girls must grow up....
... but the priest glances again at the letters on the table and he gently and cautiously inquires if she is sure she wishes to come to him to chat? And not one of her elder lady friends? He keeps his uncertainty and worry hidden, remembering how much it had hurt when Lady Tsubei had singled him out to seek aid in matters of the heart. After all, the High Priest was not supposed to understand.
He raises the cup of tea to his lips and blows on it gently, then takes a sip as he watches Meirou through the wisps of steam. Only allowing her to see his genuine and gentle concern, Kouyo assures her that he will still try his best to help, if he can. What does Miss Meirou need?

Meirou nods quietly. Most of her elder lady friends are, well, back in Gaia or the Golden World. Hia is the only one, and she is quite busy preparing for her Naming Ceremony, which is coming up within the next year. And though Renka has been so kind to her, well...He isn't from quite the background she is.
She quietly adds that she is probably over-reacting, because no boy has ever dared court her. But why the letters? She thinks she knows who sent them, though they are anonymous. Those boys who sit in the back of the class and giggle about girls instead of studying. Why Meirou and not one of the others? gonk

Well, sending the letters is custom for the holiday, no? And Miss Meirou is now of an age to receive them. He has heard from Renka that her teachers have seen her ability, and Renka himself has commented on her efforts - is she uncomfortable with the attention of people her own age? Perhaps she is just not used to it yet?
More quietly, he adds that most of the boys will not end up studying much longer - their parents probably wish them to think about seeking wives. Renka's school is quite unique, educating boys and girls together, but even so, Kouyo notes that does not mean that all of the boys will become scholars in the way that Miss Meirou wishes to be.
Kouyo's projections are touched with the implication that he makes no assumptions, of course. He is just not sure he is quite understanding why the letters are a problem?

Meirou supposes it is and sighs. She's not used to it yet, because it's the first time, right? And because she's so busy with her studies.... It's uncomfortable, perhaps, because she's not used to it.
Ah...The gender differences again. But...Meirou wonders why females have to be the dominant ones? But she shouldn't be asking this! No no no! gonk
...
Meirou is just so overwhelmed and worried about this she can't think. She takes a deep sip of the tea, sighing. The letters just bother her in an odd way...And somehow, she's flattered by all this. Why...?

Kouyo remains silent while Meirou puzzles through it all, keeping to himself all of his own thoughts on the why of it all. He remembered sending a few letters of his own when he was younger but, well... none of that really mattered anymore, for a variety of reasons.
He takes another sip of tea and smiles, putting one hand to his chest. "Miss is just growing up, and no one, not even an older lady, can really tell her exactly how it will all go and what to expect. This little bird is Named Water, and so perhaps the unexpected was a bit more natural to him." So he is not sure what advice he can really offer to her, but Kouyo reminds her that he is here to listen... if Miss thinks it will help.
"Miss should not be ashamed, though." The tradition, the letters... they are not generally very serious. Kouyo might advise her to worry less and enjoy the attention - others are recognizing that she is growing up well, even if that recognition is also still green and not yet fully bloomed into maturity.

"What would be a good Name for me..?" She pounces on the opportunity as soon as it's brought up, the letters not her only concern. "The boys say I'd be a wonderful Earth, but..." A hesitation is added, along with a slight disappointment she can't seem to control. "It's not fitting for me...How did Kouyo pick his Name?"
Meirou sighs quietly, sipping at the tea again. Tradition is important if it's been around for so long...Though he is right. The level of seriousness is much less than, say, your Naming Ceremony.

"A Name?" Kouyo repeats, smiling as his eyes focus on the leaves in the bottom of his teacup. "Perhaps... Miss already has one, but since it is hers, not just anyone else would be able to see it." The High Priest has never conducted a Naming Ceremony, up in his tower at the Porcelain Temple, but he has lots of time to think on it. Maybe it is not really a matter of selections and new information, but rather identifying and accepting what is already known.
... But again, Kouyo may not be the best person to ask, as he was already on the path to enter the priesthood before his Naming. Has Miss Meirou voiced her concerns to Master Renka yet?

"And it has not yet awakened?" Meirou asks to clarify, "Or perhaps I am too preoccupied to notice..." She muses next, thinking about her abilities and dislikes. Well, books and knowledge..Math...Peace..And nature. But on the other hand, she doesn't like the easy road. She thinks on this for a moment before answering the High Priest once more.
She hasn't had time to ask Renka yet, because they have both been busy, but perhaps she will in the near future. How has Kouyo's stay in the Space Danish been so far? She has been too wrapped up in her own thoughts to listen to his. gonk

Kouyo shrugs slightly. "Or perhaps Miss has not yet found it." The Name brings truth, so the priests should be able to help her when the time of her Ceremony comes, if she requires it. He places slight emphasis on "should", and his brow furrows for a moment, but he continues to give off a soft reassuring feeling.
As for how he has been doing, "This little bird has enjoyed building his own nest here among his people, even if it is a different flock than the one he was born to." Kouyo smiles, radiating a shy little pride. The priest's new job in the library has been nice, too - he can read the books as he copies them, and neither has to purchase nor find space for them for when he finishes.
... Though he still feels the need to line his nest with books anyway. Kouyo laughs softly and finishes the last of the tea in his cup. He will have to be sure he does not acquire more than he can carry home.

"I shouldn't be so worried about this.." She murmurs, unsure feelings still wavering out, though now mixed with a tiny bit of comfort. The Name, and the truth with it, will come eventually, as Kouyo says. She is just impatient.
"Then this flock has accepted you over time as well?" She smiles, back to a cheerful projection. Meirou can't wait until she is of working age~. Kanna has said there are many places to work in Gaia! As for the books, Meirou loves that idea. Reading without cost or taking up space.
Meirou reassures Kouyo that nesting is very much so ok, and if he needs help when he returns to Gaia, Meirou will provide it!
