Faolan sat back on his haunches where he was kneeling on top of the new vardo his dad had given to him and Elle. It was old and most had been used for storage till now, but it was twice the size of his old one, having enough space within for two rooms. At least it would make living together less awkward for Elle, Fao hoped. He wiped the sweat from his brow and set about to finishing patching the roof, not minding too much the heat of the day or the sun beating down on his bare back.
It be awhile yet before his girl came home, having been (forcibly?) dragged off by Keagan to learn how to manage the carnival's accounts. Both men had agreed that Ellandra wasn't really the performing type and her social anxieties would hinder her for most jobs, since dealing with the public was a part of living in Farstep. Faolan had suggested having her help out with the paperwork and, to his almost surprise, Keagan had agreed. Now he was hoping to have the work on the roof done before she came home to surprise her with no more leaks.
Sorting out where their belongings would go and repainting the outside were different stories all together, but one task at a time.

Ellandra felt horribly self-conscious and embarrassed as she made her way over to the old-new vardo. Working with Keagan hadn't been difficult at all, and she liked feeling useful. Some of the stories she'd been regaled with would have surprised her. . . had they been about anyone but Faolan. Somehow, not one of the stories the carnival owner had told her had shocked her in the least. Well, perhaps the rare, relatively ordinary-type stories had - but that would have been due to their rarity. The absurd was the norm here and had been for a long time, that much was clear.
Actually, she'd had a very easy time helping Keagan out. . . until they had shown up. She knew she'd needed new clothes, but to be kidnapped for - for a makeover? Ellandra dropped her head a bit. She wasn't sure what to think about being dressed up like this; for one thing the clothing she'd been stuck into was actually colorful, and while she had wanted to move into the realms of the non-neutral colors, she hadn't expected to be spun, shoved, and twirled into something this. . . this. . . fancy?
Well, hopefully Faolan wouldn't laugh at how silly she must look, in this red and black frilly dress (really, red and black? Couldn't they have stuck her in, say, lighter colors? It was hot out!) and she could change in the relatively sheltered (except when it rained) old-new vardo. . . But what was that, going on at her newest home? A small hand rose to her mouth and Ellandra froze to the spot as she saw her fortune-teller working. . .
Ohhh, myyy.....
All thoughts fled from her mind - including those self-conscious ones about her own appearance - at the sight before her, and she simply stood there, rooted to the spot, eyes wide with wonder, love, and. . . something else she didn't really want to name at this moment because she wasn't quite sure she was ready to acknowledge it. Not . . . fully anyway. . .
Ooooooooooooh..............

Faolan sat back, once more wiping the sweat from his brow. Not having noticed Ellandra staring at him yet or what she was wearing, he crawled along the roof on all fours till he found the bottle of water he'd brought up with him. After taking a long refreshing drink, he tipped his head back and poured some on his face and chest, cooling off. Once he'd put the cap back on, he tossed the bottle with his tools and easily skittered back to where he'd been working.

Ellandra squeaked as her legs threatened to give away beneath her. Ohhhhhhh dear. She bit her lip, trying not to sit down on the spot - and also fighting a very odd desire to run up to the vardo, drag Faolan down from the roof and - well, she wasn't quite ready to go there yet. But she still couldn't help the thoughts crossing her mind.
Aaah, she hoped he'd notice her soon, not because of the makeover she'd been talked into but because it might make him stop looking so. . .. .
So. . .
Um. . . .
What had she been thinking again?
Um. . . .
Oooohhhhhhh myyyy....

Something red floated along the young half-demon's peripheral vision and he turned his head, expecting some of the clowns to be bringing over some beer after a long day of doing home repairs. What he actually saw thought had him catch his breath in his throat, staring in awe. Ellandra had always been lovely in his eyes, but now, in the clothes the carnival girls had wrangled her into, she was gorgeous. He licked his lips--a nervous habit--and waved to her, not trusting his voice yet. Actually, he wasn't much to trusting anything he might do at the moment. Staying on the roof seemed safe for now. He was less tempted to ravish the poor girl if he stayed up there.

Ellandra waved back weakly, with the hand that wasn't still covering her mouth, and took a few tentative steps forward. She couldn't quite tell what Faolan thought of her (she believed) ridiculous getup, not from here, and neither was she sure of why he was staying up on that roof. The brunette chewed her lip nervously as she drew ever closer to the vardo. Faolan was staring. . . was - was that a good stare or a - a shock-stare? And....... oooh, dear.... Her legs nearly gave away again. Goodness. This was. . . . this was .... um......... difficult....

Faolan crawled to the edge of the roof to peer down at her when she came closer, blinking a little. However had they managed to get her to wear that . . . in public? He tilted his head a bit, realizing he could see down the front of her dress from his vantage point, and blushed furiously.
Sitting up so he couldn't be seen from below--and more to the point, he couldn't see her--he took a few deep breaths, calming himself down. How'd he get a girl like that? He knew he'd be asking himself that for the rest of his life.
After a few moments, his head gophered up over the edge of the roof again and he smiled down at her. "Hi." Wherever had that sudden shyness come from?

Ellandra squeaked and blushed, her face quickly matching (or at least coming close to doing so) the red of the dress she wore. "H-hello.... um........... I - I was.......... kidnapped again......... a-as you can see," she said nervously, tugging at the skirt of her dress. Her self-consciousness had increased to the extreme. Did she look that silly? Was - was Faolan disgusted? Did - did he think she looked like one of the clowns? Or - or like some little girl playing dress-up with her mother's clothes...?

The young man lay down on the roof, stretching out so he could pillow his head on his arms, looking down at her. "Remind me to thank your kidnappers. You look stunning in that, Elle." More than stunning. He wriggled a bit closer and held a hand down for her, just wanting that small connection for now.

The brunette reached a hand up to take Faolan's, stepping on tiptoe to be certain she could reach far enough. Her face was entirely aflame with a blush, and she wished she could see him better from where she was standing."I - I. . . I feel kind of silly, actually," she confessed, ducking her head a little. "I'm. . . I'm not used to wearing anything like this," she added, believing her fortune-teller but still fighting her self-consciousness regardless.

Faolan squeezed her hand reassuringly. "Trust me, lass, you're gorgeous. Enough so that I'm staying right here for a bit." He nodded as if punctuating his sentence. "How'd things go with Da?"

"I had to give him coffee a lot," Ellandra said, wrinkling her nose a bit at the thought of the liquid that passed for coffee in this place. She paused and thought for a moment, trying as best she could to balance on her toes and hold on to Faolan's hand. "He told me a lot of stories," she continued, then added in a more serious tone, "I. . . I hope I can be of some help. . . I wasn't there for very long at all before I was kidnapped." The brunette blinked a little and tried to tilt her head so that she was able to see Faolan better, without any luck. "But how are you doing, working up there?"

God, that old man and his stories. "Hope he didn't tell you anything too embarrassing about me. And no worries, if he really needed you, he wouldn't have let the ladies take you off for a very ravishing make-over." She was so hot right now.
Faolan noticed that she was having trouble holding his hand, and really, it was a little awkward. "Let me come down, lass, and we'll talk proper." He pulled his hand away and disappeared over the edge of the roof only to come hurling off of it, landing on the ground before her with cat-like grace. He stood up slowly and looked down at her wearing his usual charmingly playful grin. "Much better. Now I can see you in your finery."

Ellandra smiled at Faolan when he landed, only jumping a bit - though she blushed a lot more. "I can't tell you if he told me any embarrassing stories or not," she said, uncomfortably aware of her situation. Uncomfortably, yet not uncomfortably - keenly aware, however, most certainly. "I've been sworn to secrecy," she added, trying not to swoon just from being so close to him.
