My sister showed me this article.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/5343111/Ball-and-chain-to-force-children-to-study.html
Discuss. I think it's self explanatory so I'm not going to spoon feed...
I personally would be pretty forking pissed off if my parents made me wear that.

It seems to me to be more a joke than anything. I can't imagine that any parent would really get away with using such a thing.

Awesome idea! It also strengthens the legs of delinquents, giving them more muscular legs to kick the weak more efficiently. It could also be used for tests of courage and endurance, set in on 5 minutes and throw the kid in a lake! If he doesn't make it...well..the herd's gotta be culled!

I think that's hilarious. I mean, who doesn't want to just strap their kids to something and leave them there until they're ready to deal with them? And if they're just going to be sitting there, they might as well be studying. rolleyes

While one half of my brain sees that and goes "Yeah! Awesome! That'll learn em!" The other half of my brain really hopes that thing is a joke. I mean...something like that only re-inforces the idea that education is a punishment. sweatdrop

Somebody somewhere has probably tried to call them child abusers.

It would be a good idea for kids who slack off and don't pay attention in class. Not for kids that pay attention and actually try.

The website selling it looks a bit like it is in a similar vein to Think Geek. The item is also listed as "Gifts for your boyfriend". I would hazard a guess that this is intended for people to buy as a gag gift more than anything else.

[Terra]: I'm sure you're right but there are probably parents that would actually use this. I mean tons of parents use that child leash thing. (although it's not intended as a joke)

Ah but child leashes can be useful for those children that are overly curious and have a tendency to wander off. We kept my little brother on a wrist version for a while. He has always tried to be helpful in finding things at the store and you can quickly loose sight of such small people in a big department store.
This however has a sinister overtone if taken too seriously...
