To celebrate the end of another university semester and the impending release of high school/middle school/etc for summer: what are all of your summer reading plans? If you have any, that is.
For me, my family just got a deck built onto our house. In celebration I'm going to read Stephen King novels at night out there all summer!

Well, aside from having to run some of the summer reading programming for elementary kids at work, I'll be sure to enter our staff reading program. Every week, you get an entry in a lottery for every book you've read. The prizes are usually $10 gift cards to local businesses (Starbucks, Borders, etc.). So, I'll have to be sure to read at least one adult book a week starting in June.

As for Vonnegut, I recommend Slaughter-House Five. Happy reading~!

It was what turned me on to Vonnegut: his introspection; his barefaced morality; his blunt indictment of humanity. What did you like about it? Also, why don't you share your list, too? Maybe I can add some of your reads to my own list. whee

I don't really have a list of books that I aim to read over the summer, except from the pile next to settee (which is where all the books I own but haven't read yet end up...).
Then again I'm going to graduate before the summer, so I won't have a huge holiday to read lots of books in any more. crying

Maybe I can add some of your reads to my own list. whee Honestly, I like Vonnegut for some of the same reasons you do. The thing I find most intriguing is that his novels are so easily read that it's so easy for you to totally miss what's going on; it's almost like when you read you get swept up in stories of alien abduction (in the case of Slaughterhouse) that you're just like the characters unless you pay attention.
My summer reading list is kind of...out there in written form but here we go:
By Stephen King: -Pet Sematary Cujo -IT (maybe. I've read it once before) -Desperation -The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
-The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton (I love that novel and read it ever summer...and every semester...and every rainy day, haha) -The Haunting Of Toby Jugg by Dennis Wheatley -The Harry Potter series back-to-back (It's been a while...) -And I'm going to attempt to get some of the books I'll have to read for classes in the fall out of the way (It'll be a bunch of YA literature for my Children's Lit course, and Toni Morrison novels for my seminar, "The Author").
Hope I have you an idea of what to read! If not, it's fun to talk books, isn't it?

Yeah, I do have a reading plan for this summer.
First of all I'm planning on reading all the books that I bought 2 months before school ended. I have around 20+ books that I bought, but have been putting off because I keep on getting books from the public library. Ugh. I really need to quit that bad habit. sweatdrop
Also, I plan on reading the entire Warriors series. You know, the one about the warrior cats living in the wild? I thought at first that the series was going to be childish and a bit dumb and even went as far as to tell myself I would keep away from them, but I've heard so many good things about the series that my curiosity kicked in and I read the first book and fell in love with it. heart So now I'm going to read the entire series and find out how Fireheart deals with the prejudices of being a kittypet. xd
Also in my plan is to read at least four or five of Dostoyevsky novels. Why? Because they are absolutely brilliant! As soon as I was finished reading The Brother's Karamazov I knew that one; it had now become my favorite book, and two; the author was a complete genius. 3nodding
So, yeah, that's my summer reading plan. wink

There are so many books I want to read and I can't seem to finish any of them unless I read them one or two at a time. Yay, a fellow Dostoevsky fan! I, too, happen to be reading The Idiot. I'm about 200 pages in. What do you think of it?
