Instructions

Written by: Neil Gaiman

Touch the wooden gate in the wall you never saw before.
Say “please” before you open the latch,
go through,
walk down the path.
A red metal imp hangs from the green-painted
front door,
as a knocker,
do not touch it; it will bite your fingers.
Walk through the house. Take nothing. Eat nothing.
However,
if any creature tells you that it hungers,
feed it.
If it tells you that it is dirty,
clean it.
If it cries to you that it hurts,
if you can,
ease it’s pain.

From the back garden you will be able to see the wild wood.
The deep well you walk past leads to Winter’s realm;
there is another land at the bottom of it.
If you turn around here,
you can walk back safely;
you will lose no face. I will think no less of you.

Once through the garden, you will be in the wood.
The trees are old. Eyes peer from the undergrowth.
Beneath a twisted oak sits an old woman. She may ask for something;
give it to her. She
will point the way to the castle.
Inside it are three princesses.
Do not trust the youngest. Walk on.
In the clearing beyond the castle the twelve months sit about a fire,
warming their feet, exchanging tales.
They may do favors for you, if you are polite.
You may pick strawberries in December’s frost.
Trust the wolves, but do not tell them where you are going.
The river can be crossed by the ferry. The ferry-man will take you.
(The answer to his question is this:
If he hands the oar to his passenger, he will be free to leave the boat.
Only tell him this from a safe distance.)

If an eagle gives you a feather, keep it safe.
Remember: that giants sleep too soundly, that witches are often betrayed by their appetites; dragons have one soft spot, somewhere, always; hearts can be well-hidden,
and you betray them with your tongue.

Do not be jealous of your sister.
Know that diamonds and roses
are as uncomfortable when they tumble from one’s lips as toads and frogs:
colder, too, and sharper, and they cut.

Remember your name.
Do not lose hope-what you seek will be found.
Trust ghosts. Trust those that you have helped to help you in their turn.
Trust dreams.
Trust your heart, and trust your story.
When you come back, return the way you came.
Favors will be returned, debts be repaid.
Do not forget your manners.
Do not look back.
Ride the wise eagle (you shall not fall)
Ride the silver fish (you will not drown)
Ride the gray wolf (hold tightly to his fur).

There is a worm at the heart of the tower; that is why it will not stand.

When you reach the little house, the place your journey started,
you will recognize it, although it will seem much smaller than you remember.
Walk up the path, and through the garden gate
you never saw before but once.
And then go home. Or make a home.

Or rest.

Once Upon A Time....

'Once upon a time', the well-known, first words of most fairy tails. The fairy tales everyone knows of with the fairy godmothers, witches, evil sorcerers and the like. Well, unlike most other fairy tales, this one starts out in a rural town in present day New York.

Celebrating the marvelous achievements of their son, the Roberts family announced that they were holding a party. Now, the Roberts weren't just any ordinary family: they were filthy rich. Their parties were always the most extravagant fiascoes that their small town had seen. Most of the time, only the certain few family friends and wealthy relatives were invited, but this time, half the town got an invitation.
The party would take place in their mansion that sat on the outskirts of the town on the third Saturday in June. To say that the mansion was large would have been an understatement. The house itself sat atop a small hill past a long, paved driveway. There was a gate in the front, blocking out any unwanted visitors. Once past the gate, the driveway continued for a short while surrounded on each side by a large expanse of healthy, green grass, compliments of their many gardeners. The mansion had a large entrance with vines growing up either side and many windows looking out the front. Most had curtains blocking any outsider from viewing the room's contents, though there were still a few that were left open.

In the back yard, there was a large garden with what looked like a maze made out of bushes towards the back. This 'maze' was quite a distance from the mansion itself and would serve as a place of rest during the party. It was far enough away that the noisy sounds of the party barely reached it and a group of the party-goers had ended up coming there. Why they were there was different for each of them.
What they didn't know was that they were about to stumble onto something big. Something that would change their lives forever. And it was just through a pair of garden gates....

The Jerk

I'm controlled by: ShadowOfYourSmile
But my name is: Cole Barrow
I have lived 20 years.
I look like [this]
I tend to be an idiot by other people's standards. I'm a tad self centered. Well, a tad is probably an understatement. I'm not known for selfless acts of kindness. Rather, if someone asks me for help, I just walks away without any second thought. Or I makes fun of them. Either way, I'm not a very nice person. I have a bit of a temper and it can get set off fairly easily. Whether it gets set off or not depends on what kind of mood I'm in, so you'd better be careful. I usually ignores Shylo unless she annoys me in some way. Sometimes I'll just yell at her because I'm in a bad mood even if she didn't do anything. I know, bad brother. It's just the way I am.
When I was younger I grew up with a regular childhood. I lived with both my parents and my younger sister. I went to school normally, but was quite quiet in my elementary years. Once I got into junior high, however, my attitude took a drastic change. I began ditching school and failing classes left and right. I was a jerk to all of my classmates and got in numerous fights(all of which I pwned in, thank you very much). I would come home with some sort of injury quite often, sometimes from my fights, sometimes from the stupid things I did. What can I say? I'm a guy. All of my teachers would tell me that I could get good grades, I just had to apply myself. But who cares? I went to school just barely enough to pass and graduate on time. My parents used to argue with me about my grades and my actions, but realized that it was useless. I still got in arguments with them over nothing at all when my mood was bad. Now, I work in a car maintenance shop and try to avoid them as much as possible.

The Optimist

I'm controlled by: ShadowOfYourSmile
But my name is: Crystal Agnelli
I have lived 19 years.
I look like [this]
I tend to be very bubbly and happy. Very rarely does anything get me down and I'm always looking on the bright side of things. I am very friendly and see everyone as a potential friend. I'm nice to everyone because of this fact.
When I was younger I was an only child and was spoiled because of it. Both my parents were fairly well off, so they always got me whatever I wanted. I never really became snobby, though, and always wanted to share whatever I had with others. Before I started going to school and making lots of friends, I had tried sharing things with my pets and other animals. It didn't always turn out well since not all animals enjoyed sharing the things I wanted to share. Oh well, I still love animals! When I started school, I always invited my friends over to my house for extravagant sleepovers. I love to please!
I graduated the year before, but I had know the Robert's boy decently so I wasn't surprised to get an invitation. We weren't particularly good friends, but I pretty much knew everyone. Of course I came to his party. I would never pass up a social situation like that!

The Strategist

I'm controlled by: ShadowOfYourSmile
But my name is: Lucius Bentley
I have lived 18 years.
I look like [this]
I tend to be thoughtful and intelligent. Okay, so that's a self-proclaimed title, but the other kids in school don't particularly help the matter. I've always been the brain in the class that everyone goes to for help on homework. I graduated this year as valedictorian and am planning to go to Harvard in this coming fall. After getting a job of course.
As with most of the so-called 'geeks' in the school, I'm not particularly great at social things. I do know how to talk to people, but I usually choose not to. I have a few good friends and that's really all I need.
When I was younger I was always treated like a child prodigy. My parents always tried their best to keep me reading and involved in anything educational. After my older brother graduated top of his class, my parents expected the world of me. And I delivered. It wasn't always easy, though. I think he had a more natural gift than me. I actually had to work at it. But I'm not complaining. I think I got more out of my education. I was actually curious about everything. If I heard something that I didn't know, I would go home and look it up.
In that case, I'm always thinking strategy. I like to plan things out, though I'm not always that good at it.

The Extrovert

I'm controlled by: ShadowOfYourSmile
But my name is: Nikolas Lehmann
I have lived 21 years.
I look like [this]
I tend to be somewhat quiet at first. But that doesn't mean a thing. I am actually somewhat extroverted, it just doesn't show until you get to know me. I like to watch and learn about my victims...er....peers before showing the real me. I'm quite the good actor, at that. I was able to make my entire class think that I was from some third world county that they had never heard of before once. They all felt sorry for me and kept asking me to tell them stories about the weird things I had to eat to survive. I'm willing to try just about anything and I'm always up for a good joke. Especially sarcastic ones.
When I was younger I had a fairly large family. I had two sisters, both older and two brothers, one who was younger and one who was older. I learned my people skills through them. Being young as I was when my sisters started getting their 'mood swings', I didn't understand it. I learned quickly enough, though, to recognize when they were in a bad mood. Knowing that, I would either chose to make it worse, or completely avoid them. I was a bit of an instigator, especially with my older brother. I liked to pick fights with him and, even though I lost much of the time, I still found it enjoyable.
Now that I'm older, I tend to avoid my siblings more than I used to. Maybe I grew tired of them? I don't really know the reason, but I have my sights set on other people now.

The Child

I'm controlled by: Kashikoi_Ichi
But my name is: Shylo Barrow
I have lived 16 years.
I look like [this]
I tend to be shy and quiet. Confrontation has never been Shy's thing and so for the most part she tries to avoid Cole. She hates being yelled at and when she's frustrated, she doesn't really know how to express herself so most of the time she ends up in tears. You could say Shylo is a cry baby. Her thought process is very simple for the most part as she speaks whatever comes to mind, much like a child. Despite the certain amount of innocence Shy's retained at her age she still is fairly intelligent, making A's and B's in her classes until she graduated. Laugherter is like air for her, easy to come by and hard to go without. It's like a stress relieve for her, though she doesn't quite realize that; she just thinks she likes to laugh. She's realized that doing certain things makes people happy and she likes to see that expression of surprised joy on their faces. She's really skittish and scares easily.
When I was younger Family life was normal, aside from constant complaints she got from her parents about acting her age, but those didn't really faze her. She's always looked up to Cole and tried not to be an annoying little sister but she's sure her attempts have failed. Sometimes she wonders if he hates her but that's not something she lets get out. School is easy for her so long as she pays attention and does the work. It's just about the only thing her parents don't harp about. She's never been invited to a party before and is looking forward to going, though she's having to sneak out to do so.

The Brawn

I'm controlled by: Kashikoi_Ichi
But my name is: Parker Mace Addy
I have lived 23 years.
I look like [this]
I tend to be bluntly honest and confident. I am incapable of telling a lie. I don't really know why I've been invited to this party but it seems interesting enough. I'm a very athletic person and my favorite sport is soccer. I've never been one for sitting still so I guess you could say I've got a restless personality. I don't take well to bullies and I like to protect people; it's something my grandfather made sure I understood. Strength is for protecting and defending so that's how I use it. And sports. *Grins*
When I was younger I grew up with my mother during the school year and my grandfather in the summers. My mom's a single mother and I'm an only child. Mom's an advocate for battered women and children and she's helped to instill my sense of justice. Grandpa was my second favorite person in the world, preceded only by mom. He's the one who taught me how to defend myself. If it hadn't been for him I likely would have ended up a bully.

School was never my favorite place to be, though I managed to pulled grades good enough to graduate and get into a local college. I've come home for a break from school and was invited to the party. I'm looking forward to seeing if there's anyone I know.

The Jester

I'm controlled by: Kashikoi_Ichi
But my name is: Kodalina (Koda) Montoya
I have lived 20 years.
I look like [this]
I tend to be fun loving and loud. I speak my mind even though I know I shouldn't and I'm the first one to point out a funny mistake. And despite what people might think, I'm almost always the first one to bring the jokes to the gutter; I've been known to make old-men blush with what I say and I think that's just down right funny. Besides, at my house, it's do or die and with four brothers, well, let's just say I don't got a choice. XD

Generally I'm a nice person, though it does take a bit of effort to get past the first impression. And trust me, I leave a lasting impression, one you'll never forget. If we've met before, even if only through friends of friends, you'll remember me. I like it that way. It doesn't bother me when people don't get my jokes of if they look down their nose at me. They wanna be a stuck-up jerk, that's their problem! When it comes to anger I'm loud and explosive, just like the rest of me. But no worries, it doesn't last long!
When I was younger I was surrounded by boy's, constantly. It wasn't a surprise when I was confused for one occasionally, much to my mothers ever-loving frustration. She can't understand why I'm not more girly, why I don't like all that frilly, fru-fru crap she wants me to like. But that's okay. We get along fine for the most part though sometimes we have little spats. She hates that I don't really think about what I'm going to say, wants me to have more tact and what not, to be more polite. Screw that! There's no such thing as tact when you're trying to fit in with a bunch of boys, even if they are your brothers!

My family is middle-class for the most part, though occasionally we'll run into some luck and have a bit of extra spending money. Those times are a blast. I'm the second youngest in what my father calls his brood, brood, what an old-timer word, and my big brothers never let me forget it. For convenience sake we all live at home and help out at the family restaurant, though my brothers all take online courses at a local college. I'm not interested honestly. I just wanna take over the family business, forget about college. Mum doesn't like that much either, lol!!

The Flirt

I'm controlled by: Kashikoi_Ichi
But my name is: Aerenia (Nia) Costello
I have lived 21 years.
I look like [this]
I tend to be touchy-feely and overly flirtatious. That's just the way I am. I'll flirt with anyone, male or female, it's an open game to me. Even if they tell me to stop I don't 'cause I look at this way. It's harmless. Hell, if I like you enough you might even be able to convince me to flirt only with you. Hope you like a challenge. I do have my line's though and one of those is to stay away from those who are taken. I'm not into making people betray themselves.

The Sisters say I'm rowdy and over-bearing, that I don't answer let alone listen to the calling of God. That's true. I couldn't care less about their over-rated deity. It's my life and I'm going to live it the way I want to, even if that means running in the fast lane, booze, drugs and all. It's my choice so bugger off.

I get angry when others try to interfere with my and another person, even if it is just a little light flirting. I've got a scathing temper and it lasts for random amounts of time. I'll take it out on anyone, even if they arn't the one who caused it.
When I was younger, just a baby, my biological parents left me at this freaking nunnery, Our Lady of Virtues. It's catholic. And I can't stand it. As a matter of fact, I can't stand anything that has to do with religion. There wasn't anything I could do at first, just follow along with their stupid rules and all the BS. But as I got older I started to put my foot down to the point that even now I'm only their when I'm sober and sleeping. I didn't give them much of a choice when it came to choosing schools, demanding to go to a regular high school, even if it was an hour or more away, or I'd run away and they'd never see me again. The Superior Mother understood enough about me to know it was true. I've got the street smarts to make my way and never look back and she knew that.

At school most of the girls hated me 'cause I'd sleep with just about anyone, didn't really matter who the were so long as they weren't taken. I've been called a slut and worse but it's more amusing to me than anything. At least I don't lie about my sexuality, I'm open about and those childish little brats at the school couldn't say anything to prove me wrong. I wasn't the one hiding behind false modesty and familial tradition after all. But that didn't stop them from hating me. Eventually some of the boys joined with the girls, disliking me because I wouldn't stay with a single one of them. Screw them. I don't need friends or a family. I've made it just fine on my own for the past 4 years and I'm going to keep on doing it.

Cole gave a quick glance back at Parker.
"Well...it's annoying," he replied. "At least I think it is."
It was true, unfortunately. Or at least for the most part. He tended to get irritated by people with an overly optimistic, happy view on things. Then again, he did have a soft spot for his sister. She was blood, after all. She was probably the one person who could do something that was one of his many pet peeves and get away with it. Sure, he'd probably yell at her for it, but not as much as he would to someone else.
Cole was getting closer to the house by that time, so he was beginning to see slight detail in it. It was green, which he found slightly odd. It had various red decorations strewn throughout the front of the building.
The door was green as well with some sort of red knocker on the front. It seemed to be some kind of creature with the ring that served as the knocker hanging in it's mouth.

((Let me know then. ^_^))

The words were simply stated yet Parker found he wasn't really able to understand. In a world as cruel as this one, wasn't even just a tiny bit of shining innocence something to celebrate? He followed the other man slowly, thinking about those words. Annoying. It was understandable how some could considered Shylo's actions as such, even childish and immature. But wasn't it okay to have something as pure as that girl to be around? Didn't it help to balance the bad in the small worlds they surrounded themselves in? He sighed. Maybe that was just his own opinion. "I suppose that's a plausible answer."

Shylo was standing in front of the house now, trying to decide if she should wait for Cole to knock on the door. But then what fun would that be. She grinned and grabbed a hold of the ring hanging from the mouth of the knocker and slammed it loudly against the door, before letting go and turning to look at the boys. "You think anyone lives here?"

((So short...))

"Come on! I think I found the end!" Crystal called, running through the garden's maze. Her long orange hair flowed out behind her as she practically floated down one of the paths. She stopped when she came to the next turn, her eyes fixating on the open door that was in front of her.
"Oh...my.....I did find it!" she yelled out happily. She clapped her hands as a form of congratulations to herself before turning to find the counterpart she had dragged into the maze with her.
"It's so exciting! You have to see it! Come on, hurry up!"

"I'm working on it...." Lucius called from behind Crystal. He had no idea why he had followed this girl into the maze. It wasn't something he had planned on taking part in, but she was so...persuasive. That, and the fact that she literally had dragged him to it. He had been perfectly content listening to the music from a distance when this random girl who he vaguely recognized had come up to and disturbed him. She was rather outgoing.....
He finally caught up to her and stopped next to her, looking to the door that she had been so happy to find.
"Yippee, it's a door. Now can we..." he began before realizing what lay beyond the door. He squinted his eyes in confusion and tilted his head to the side slightly.
"Wha....?" he said, taking a step closer. It made no sense. How could there be blue, sunny skies beyond the door? They were in a garden at night. Perhaps it led to a room that only looked like daytime. Either way, he had to investigate the mystery himself.

He walked over to it and looked at the frame for a minute before Crystal ran up behind him and shoved him through.
"Come on, silly! Let's just go in and see for ourselves!"

This girl was way too enthusiastic....
He stumbled through the entrance and looked around. How very perplexing. He couldn't figure out how anyone could have done this.

"Oh look! Someone beat us to it!" Crystal called out, pointing down towards Parker, Cole and Shy were.

((I'll post as Nikolas and Cole later. I have to go eat.))

Aerenia tried once again to work her wiles on the girl beside her, looking at her from beneath half-closed lids and reaching out to brush a stray strand of hair from the younger woman's face. "Such pretty eyes..."

Koda merely grabbed the girls hand and set it aside, a small smile rising. This girl was a riot. "All the better to see you with, my dear," she quoted, referencing the garish children's story. She looked around her then before pulling Aerenia behind her and around a corner. They'd been in the maze for almost an hour, turning corners and hitting dead ends with the frequency of well....she couldn't even think of anything. And Nia had been hitting on her since they'd run into each other at the party.

At first Koda hadn't recognized her and was vaguely amused by the attempt at trying to pick her up but then she'd introduced herself and memories from two years before came back in a sluice of hilarity and Irony. She'd gone to school with Nia, though she'd been a year behind the 21 year old. And just as she had in the past, Aerenia continued to hit on her, unperturbed by Kodalina's continued rejections.

Entering the maze had been Koda's idea, a way to kill the time. Aerenia had been content to scope out the eligible and willing participants at the party. But the more amusing target was most definitely the other girl. Pulling her hand out of Koda's grip she smiled, shook her head and walked forward. "Same old Koda," she said, looking around them at the tall, vegetative walls.

"Of course." Koda followed behind her, still smiling. "People don't change, just their perceptions."

Nia shook her head at that and turned to look at her, a sexy pout forming. "You mean I look older than I did in High School? How mean!" The pout faded as quickly as it had appeared and she turned back around.

Koda's grin widened and she ran forward a little, wrapping her arm around one of Nia's. "You so look different," she teased, "Completely vintage now!" She let go of Nia before the other girl could even attempt to hit her and ran forward, ahead of Nia and around a corner. She slowed to a walk and turned around, moving backwards so she could watch Nia. As the other girl approached, another pout forming though Koda could tell her friend was trying to quench a smile, she was so focused she didn't notice the change of environment until she bumped into someone and tumbled to the ground. Amused, she burst into laughter and sat up, turning to look at who she'd knocked to the ground in her attempt to stay righted. She was surprised to find a young man. "Hello!" she said, yet another grin forming before she burst into more laughter.

Aerenia stared in surprise at the other girl when she commented about her age though she knew of course Koda was joking, as always. She couldn't remember a time in High School when Koda had been serious, except when it came to tests. Playing along, she ran forward to catch up and rounded the corner only to stop when she caught sight of the door behind Koda and the grassy field through it. She didn't even notice Koda running into somebody or the other people, so surprised was she by the abrupt change of environment. Stepping through the door, she stared up into the sky, around her at the grassy field and finally at the house a ways away and the numerous people there. "What is this place?" she asked softly.

Koda turned to Nia and only then realized she was no longer in the maze. "Whoa...."

Lucius stumbled foreword once again, practically falling on his face this time, as someone ran into him from behind. Slowly regaining his balance, he turned and looked to see who had run into him. It was some girl, one he didn't recognize. He raised an eyebrow at her before returning his attention back to the problem at hand. He hated not knowing things and he definitely did not know how this...place was possible. A spoil sport of sorts, but he wasn't about to stop to have fun when the place they were in was scientifically impossible.

His fingers laced behind his head, Nikolas walked casually on through the maze. He had wandered into it, following one of the party goers but found that he had lost them quite quickly. Call him a stalker, but it was what he did for fun. That was why he liked parties. There were lots of people there he could watch and study. Call it his passion, his obsession, or just a thing he did for fun, but it was what he did.
At this point in the maze, he wasn't too desperate to get out, though he would have rather been there. Rounding a corner, he spotted two girls, both about his age. He tilted his head to the side lightly as he stared at them.
'I think I went to high school with them,' he thought to himself. Quickly adjusting his pace, he started to follow them. He didn't think that either of them had seen him, so he figured he was safe. At least for the time being. He was curious and wanted to confirm or deny his hunch. He slowed down as he came around the corner, finding them walking through a door. He paused, wondering where the door led. Of course, only one way to find out.
He stepped through it after them to find that he wasn't alone.
"Roberts seem to have too much time on their hands, eh?" he commented.

The eyes on the doorknocker glowed red. It's mouth seemed to twitch slightly before opening a bit. It practically yawned before slightly closing it's mouth again. It seemed to stare out a Shylo, daring her to use it's knocker again.

((Hmph. My lap-top hates me. I tried to post last night but every time I tried to hit preview or submit or even go to another page on a different tab it stopped working. So I restarted to computer. After I already had a good post for this one and didn't copy/paste anywhere....so I got annoyed and shut down for the night, lol. Sorry about that but there's only so much comp. annoyance I can handle at a time. ^_^))

When the boy she'd bumped into didn't even acknowledge her, Koda shrugged it off and pushed herself to her feet. When yet another person stepped into the large, odd room behind them, she turned to him. He was vaguely familiar and looked to be around the same age as her but a name wasn't coming to mind. She shrugged that off as well and turned around to once again study the...field. It was huge, grass sprawling out around them, pretty, clear skies. She really wasn't much a of nature person but the place appealed to her. "I'll say..." she mumbled, returning the comment of the man who'd entered the field behind them.

Smiling slighty, she decided to take advantage of the situation and turned to her friend. "C'mon Nia. There are people over there, one of them being an especially tall guy. You want to go meet them, right?" Inwardly she smiled as a small light lit in the other woman's eyes but Nia turned to Koda first.

"We may be friends, honey, but don't manipulate me." She started to walk towards the other group of people closer to the house on the opposite side of the field before she sent a sultry glance at Koda. "Besides, my eyes work perfectly well." And I can't wait to get my claws in each and every one of them, she thought, walking slowly across the grass, leaving Koda to follow behind her, listening to the appreciative laughter from the other girl. Nia liked Koda, found her amusing and entertaining because she was one of the few females who turned down her advances but also played along to a certain point. But friendliness was not an excuse to allow manipulation, no matter how tame, how innocent, it may have been.

Shylo was enraptured with the knocker on the door, watching the red eyes study her. A giggle escaped as the creature yawned, showing a black pit behind it's pointy stone teeth. She reached out to grab the handle and raised it to knock again, but a much larger hand than her own settle lightly around her wrist. She looked up at Parker, waiting.

"We don't know if that is a good idea, yet," he said, bringing her hand carefully back down to set the knocker in place again without a sound. He looked over at her brother, silently asking him to stop her as he was sure the young girl wasn't going to listen to him.

When he heard more people behind them, he turned quickly to look, almost instinctively stepping in front of Shylo to hide her from view. He barely registered the actions but instead remained silent as two of the five approached.

Koda glanced behind her at the other three, wondering if they were going to follow or just sit there staring in awe? Admittedly the place was amazing but things were only amazing as long as you let them awe you. She'd learned that a long time ago. "Are any of you coming?" she asked, smirking slightly, "Or are you going to sit there with you mouths open like a bunch of gaping fish?"

Nikolas eyed the two girls as they ran off for a moment before smirking. They seemed quite eccentric and it amused him slightly. He shoved his hands into his pockets and tossed his hair away from his face.
"Quite the explorers, it would seem," he commented, glancing over at Lucius who was still staring up at the sky/roof/whatever it was. Getting no immediate response, he didn't feel like waiting. He quickly followed along behind the two girls, heading towards the other group. His curiosity had been peaked for both the interesting group that seemed to have gathered there and the odd circumstances in which he had found himself.

Cole looked from Shylo to Parker as he intercepted his sister's musing. He gave a shrug before looking back at the door knocker who almost looked like it was pouting.
"This place is really weird...." he muttered, more to himself than anyone else.
He turned and looked to Shylo with a rather indifferent look on his face.
"I think we should just leave....Who knows who lives here."

Crystal happily skipped on down to where the other's seemed to be flocking, stopping directly in front of Parker. She stared at him with wide eyes for a moment before slowly tilting her head to see behind him.
"Oh! That door knocker is really interesting!" she commented before looking back to Parker. She shot her hand out quickly and held it in front of him.
"Hi! I'm Crystal!"

Unable to discover anything to satisfy his curiosity, Lucius gave an irritated sigh. He turned and saw the others flocking around the house. He contemplated for a moment whether he should just leave and ask the Roberts themselves how they managed to pull something like this off or join the rest of them. Perhaps more investigation would provide him with the answers he wanted. He glanced back at the door that led to the garden only to find that it was no longer there. A look of panic suddenly was written across his features as he ran over to where it was. He looked around, frantically trying to relocate the apparent disappearing door. Of course, it was an open field, so locating anything seemed like it would be easy. The door, however, was completely gone. Without a trace.
He stopped with a look of dismay on his face. He trudged down to where the others were.
"It would appear that we're stuck here," he announced as he came close enough to be within earshot.

Parker looked down at the shorter girl, more amused than anything. He didn't remember many of the girls when he was in high school being so energetic. He hesitated for only a moment before taking her hand gently, careful not to hurt. "Parker."

The other people who'd walked into the field behind them were now all standing near the house and Crystal's comment about the door knocker brought his attention back to said establishment and he eyed it wearily, wondering just what a house was doing out, quite literally, in the middle of no where. Frankly, he agreed with Cole; he thought the best idea was to probably leave the door and it's knocker alone. There was no telling what kind of person or creature was or wasn't inside. "I think so too. This is a strange place."

Shylo wasn't having any of that though and without hesitation, she picked up the knocker and rapped it against the door again, doing it twice for good measure. "See, nothing happened," she said, turning back around to face the others, smiling happily.

As she was facing them all for the first time, she got a good look at them all, though only one stood out to her really and he was the one who appeared the most dejected at the idea of being in this unknown place. So when he commented about the door to the maze being gone, she grinned at him. "It's a new opportunity," she quipped, though an opportunity for what she wasn't quite sure.

"Well, if it isn't Parker Addy," Nia cooed, looking up at him with a sly smile. "It's been a while." She wanted to sidle up next to him, just to make him uncomfortable, but the girl was in the way. Oh well. No reason to open up past memories or wounds. He'd been a senior when when was in her 10th grade year and he'd caught her interest. She'd been flat out rejected. At least, that was the story she gave her friends back in school. Well, whatever, bygones be bygones and whatever. She shrugged. Her attention was caught by the slight girl standing behind Parker and she watched, amused as the girl knocked on the door, wondering what would happen.

Koda glanced at the youth she'd bumped into earlier and smiled at the forlorn sound in his voice. She wondered why he was like that, all quiet and whatever. Where was the fun in that? The other boy though, the one with the quipped, half-amused comments, he was interesting. She was determined to get actual amusement out of him, if it was the last thing she did. Though that was a bit of an odd way to think about it. Oh well. She reached out her hand to him, introducing herself. "I'm Koda and since I'm introducing myself, I hope you have the good grace to say more than just your name. It'd be rude if you didn't." She said all of this with a smile but her attention was pulled away by the sound of something knocking against wood. But she ignored it in favor of waiting for answer.

Parker looked at the girl behind Crystal, surprised. "Aerenia." He remembered her all too clearly and rather hoped she didn't want to bring up what little bit of a history they had together.

The door knocker opened it's mouth once again as Shylo pulled her hand away. It seemed to snap at her hand, but narrowly missed it. After it's teeth shut it almost grimaced before the tops of it's eyes lowered to a scowling look. It's mouth slowly opened once again, seeming to be poised and ready for the next time someone tried to knock on the door.

Nikolas took Koda's hand in his, a bit slowly at first, but shook it anyway. A small smile came onto his face at her comment. He would have just introduced himself if it hadn't been for her last words.
"Well, miss Koda, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Has anyone ever told you that you have beautiful eyes?" He smiled as he continued to shake her hand. He had ways of amusing himself. "My name is Nikolas."
The fact that this girl....Koda, had introduced herself first, amused him in and of itself. He hadn't been able to gather too much about her in the few minutes that he had seen her and her friend interact, but she seemed like the type he would get along with.

Cole looked up at Lucius commented about the door. Seeing that it was, indeed, gone, he scowled to himself.
"Great, that's just great," he muttered before turning back to the door. He glanced wearily at it's eyes which seemed to have grown angrier before looking back to Shylo.
"Do you really think going inside this house is the best thing to do? I mean, we're in the middle of a field. There's got to be other stuff out there."

Crystal turned from Parker to Aerenia, as he had called her. She looked between the two for a moment before clapping her hands together.
"Well, goody! I guess you two already know each other then. One less introduction, right?" She smiled brightly to herself before hopping to the side. She shot both Parker and Aerenia a look once more before pulling her bottom lip out in a small pout. She didn't say anything but just crossed her arms lightly across her chest.

"If you say so..." Lucius said with a shrug as he walked over to the one of the walls of the house. He looked at the oddly colored paint for a moment before finding a window. He peered through it, or tried to at least. He couldn't see much. The house seemed rather dark. Either that, or there were blinds drawn on the inside of the window.
"I don't think anyone's home..." he commented, glancing back at the others, most of whom seemed rather distracted.

Koda laughed in spite of herself, finding Nikolas almost as amusing as she tended to be. She'd been around her brothers too long, not to mention most of her friends were male, to not know teasing when it was directed at her. "The pleasure is all mine, Mr. Nikolas," she replied, "Trust me, it's definitely all mine." She was already thinking of the joke's she'd bounce off him, partly to get a reaction and partly to see if he could best them. He seemed like an amusing fellow but most did upon first meeting so she had to wonder just how long that amusement would last before it was replaced with something else, like, dread of all dreads, boredom.

As the knocker snatched at her hand Shy laughed, teasing the thing as she brought her hand closer to it's mouth only to snatch it back at the last minute. She really wasn't paying much attention to her brother, though she did note his objections in the back of mind, almost as if an unimportant afterthought. Shy was having entirely too much fun with the knocker, actually found the snapping thing rather cute.

She really was a rather happy seeming person, Parker noted as he watched Crystal step back and stare at them, but something about the pout bothered him. "Why are you pouting?" For the most part he ignored Aerenia, though he knew it was probably the worst thing he could do.

Nia didn't let her scowl out as the younger girl started to pout but she did turn attention elsewhere, more specifically the house. "What's your name?" she asked, before motioning to the girl teasing the knocking. "And her." She smiled at him, as if her smile was the only thing that would make him answer her question, though it really was more habit than anything. "And what if you're wrong? What if there is somebody home," she asked, addressing the question the youngest boy had asked, "And our only way to figure out what's going on here is to get inside?" She stepped closer to him, another sultry smile forming. "What are you going to do then?"

((Oh yeah, feel free to have the thing bite her if you want, lol.))

Nikolas returned Koda's smile before letting go of her hand.
"I'm not so sure it is," he said, tilting his head to the side slightly. "It's always a pleasure to meet someone such as yourself. At least let me share in some of the pleasure." Oh, he was going to enjoy things.

"You're going to piss the thing off," Cole said, eying the door knocker. "And then you're not going to be happy and it will be your fault."
He couldn't believe he was saying that. How could anyone possible make an inanimate object angry? It just wasn't possible. Either way, the thing did seem to be getting irritated. Whether it would actually do something or not, he wasn't sure.

The knocker seemed to get an idea as to what Shylo was doing, despite the fact that it didn't have a brain. It paused and stopped snapping at her for a few times, watching her. It then waited until she started to move towards it before it chomped down onto her fingers. Hard.

Crystal looked over to Nia, completely ignoring Parker's question. Her face light up quickly and she uncrossed her arms.
"Crystal," she answered the girl, not even sure if she was talking to her. She then looked over to the house and gave a quick shrug.
"Maybe they're shy. Perhaps we could get in through the back door?"
