The desert was a harsh landscape it did not coddle to life, water was scarce and precious. Death was destiny for most who made their homes here, yet at least those who had been born to the harsh land were made for it. Out in this barren land one creature stood oddly apart, she who had come to live in solitude.

Zira slipped out from her den, the jagged hollowed out termite mound had long since ceased to be infested, now she was it's only occupant. She shook off her brown fur scraggly as the dust rose from it only to settle back down. A well sized chunk was missing from the females ear, a testament to the cruel life out in this place.

She moved to lay down in a small patch of shade before it could fade with the rising sun. She held a piece of cactus between her paws and ate with gusto the tender meat releasing water into her parched mouth. Slowly she lifted her head and narrowed her eyes. How odd...two visitors, that made four in the last two moons. Normally she went many many moons without ever seeing another wolf.

Small paws skirted the hot ground, actually the heat on the paw pads made the petite wolf smile a bit more. It was such a different terrain then the cold that could be felt on the mountain tops, or the moist dirt of the forest. The sand was something though that the small white, black and peach wolf wasn't a fan of.

"This stuff has scuffed my bracelets," the light soprano voice chimed out to her mate as topaz eyes took note of the damage on her sparkling silver bands. The humans were good to scavenge from and it was actually a bad hobby that the little devil, better known as Alice, had.

But it wasn't about the bracelets, or the stuff that she could take from humans that had drawn the little wolf, no bigger then a near adult adolescent, to the desert. No, it had been the vision of meeting new wolves, looking at the terrain and well, maybe finding a place the two could call home as they waited for the rest of their family to come from Forks.

"Jazz," Alice spoke, tilting her nose to the side to caress her tall mate's shoulder, "do you sense anything?" the question was more for hostile possibilities in the area that she didn't see, as she could only see one figure in this place and that was a lone tan, well desert colored, wolf, and they could handle her. Or at least Alice believed her and Jasper, her seasoned warrior, could.

A small smile flickered across his muzzle brief but there, his paws were sure and graceful beside his mates. His tail gently brushed hers, but no other sign would have marked them as a couple. He stiffened then slightly his nostrils flaring, but he felt the lone female's moon before he scented her. She smelled so delightfully warm though, and he had to reign in the flare of hunger. Still his instinct for survival especially out in this barren land was strong.

"She's peaceful, calm..." He responded lightly his posture stiff, not in concern of attack but that he might become the attacker. He allowed Alice's mood to float over him and soothe him.

Zira watched the odd couple approach her curiously, she held the cactus tight in her paws the spines stripped away before she had started to chew it. What were these two doing out here? They hardly looked capable of surviving, well the petite female didn't, the male looked a little tougher. Finally she couldn't hold off, she stood slowly and waited.

Would they approach her, or would they continue on into the seemingly endless heat? She had offered her hospitality before, but something about these two made her fur stand on end...strange she wasn't used to feeling like prey.

Alice paused briefly in her strides beside her taller counterpart, though she kept that bubbly happy mood about her. She was always concerned about Jasper first. His happiness meant the world to her and taking a peek towards him from the corner of her eyes. He was so rigid. Her mate's hunger was the worse out of their family, he had indulged in the traditional way more then anyone else and lived that way for years before finding her. Then together them finding the Cullens to live with.

Letting a soft smile come back to her momentarily pensive face the short black maned wolf bobbed her head. "That's good." Alice seemed to hum out, before flickering her eyes between where they were headed (towards the solitary female) and Jasper. "Jazz, don't worry, you won't hurt her." Though there was no guarantee to that fact, out here in the heat was something that even spiked her hunger, and it seemed wild life was scare out in this wasteland.

"If you don't want to go any further, we can turn back and go looking through the forest again." But out here we don't have to worry about witnesses if anything does happen. She thought and was grateful Edward wasn't around to hear the stray worried thought the underlined her upbeat view on eternity. Which then encouraged the petite seer to state just loud enough for her mate to hear, "Just spend time between the two of us." Now there was nothing but love that came from the tiny wolf as she thought of taking advantage of the fact they didn't have to worry about anyone in the family butting into their privacy. Even though she loved everyone (Carlisle, Esme, Emmett, Rosalie, Edward, and Bella) it was good just to have Jasper all to herself. There was no actual reason to have public displays of affection, his brilliant mind gave her plenty of pictures to adore (no matter the distance between them) and she only had waves of love, admiration, devotion, happiness, and the occasional worry-streak directed towards him, and felt the same emotions directed back towards her when he wanted to let her know his feelings.

Zira tilted her head then startled that they stood there and watched her, perhaps she ought to err on the side of caution for once. She stood slowly and kicked the chewed cactus back into the darkness of her den. Her eyes narrowed watching the two wolves before her. They had to be mates, but it was so very strange the way they seemed to be connected in silence. She had seen mates long ago, and long ago she had even...she pushed the thought away her hackles rising.

Jasper gave a brief nod as Alice tried to reassure him, he hoped she was right, he felt in control...but only just barely. The emotions spiked off the female then and he looked at Alice. "She's curious, worried, and sad..."

"I can handle this." He finally stated, she had wanted to wander this way and he wouldn't deny her. He had come to trust her and her unique visions, he slowly pushed his calm mood out to envelope the three of them. He waited though for Alice to introduce them. It was a bit harder to fall back and blend in when it was just the two of them, but he still loved having her to himself. The sweet way her mood washed over him and eased every broken fragment within, no interference.

"Well let's make sure she doesn't get edgy." That wouldn't bow well if suddenly the female was to get hurt. The smell of blood wouldn't help either of the pair's restrained hunger and there was only so much holding your breath one could do. Alice would keep her mind focused on the immediate area instead of trying to find out where their family was and if the Volturi were behaving. If it looked like there would be any harm to befall the tan femme, they would leave quickly.

There wasn't a need to reply to his affirmation or Jasper's attempt to it at least. Stepping forward in her graceful glide, Alice gave the lone female a friendly smile. She would try to avoid using the female's name, having come to learn it kinda freaked out other wolves, those of Jasper's and her breed along with the normal ones, if she did so before they shared their names. As she had yet to come across another seer, and there hadn't been a chance in the world for Edward to get a read on the two of them before she was chatting with the Cullens.

"Hello...I'm Alice and this is my mate, Jasper." No need to give their last names, it seemed uncommon to have a second name around in Telk.

A sense of calm slowly washed over her, as if her mood was being dipped into a warm pool and forced to relax. Still she was cautious and she watched as the pair came closer still. Then the female spoke, her voice was so high and sweet, the voice one might expect from some etheral creature. Then again the petite female did have an odd pale quality to her.
"I'm Zira, what brings you so far strangers? The desert heat isn't an easy place to travel through..." In truth she was surprised they had made it this far, but then again others had managed. She wasn't completely alone in this harsh place.

He stood near Alice ready to leap to protect her if the female turned violent, but she was calm and curious. Her curiosity piqued his own making him wonder what she saw in living alone out here in this scorched place. He licked his lips his nose twitching a bit, his throat was partched. Pity there was nothing to drink in this desert...well nothing he was supposed to drink anyway.

That calming wave though Alice knew it had been spread out before she had even spoke was just as warm to her as the heat of the desert. It also was how the delicate appearing femme knew her beloved was working on keeping things in check.

Waging Jasper's own hidden mood, his darkening eyes and the look of hunger spreading, she inwardly frowned. Yes, their bodies could handle this temperature easier than a normal wolf, but it stressed out their bodies and she closed her eyes for a moment to settle her own inner demon.

With her eyes closed Alice was able to not only listen to Jasper, but to the spoken words of Zira. Her curiosity was indeed predominant over anything else, well maybe another hint of surprise in the loner's voice.

Only a moment more passed before the darkened topaz eyes shifted open again and the smile returned to the small pale wolf's face, the usual question asked. "Pleasure Zira, meeting you. We are just searching wandering for the time being." It was as close to the truth as possible without terrifying the other with their special gifts.

A soft laugh escaped the small throat, "The dry heat is defiantly different than the cold, dampness we are use to. How do you survive so in it?" Genuine inquisition, but Alice also made a point to step closer to Jasper and brush his graceful tail with hers. She had faith in him, and should her own hunger spike to a degree she was uncomfortable with, they would leave with a soft word of farewell and head for a hearty hunt elsewhere.
