She was playing down by the river. The same river where her mother often took her guard duties. Here the water was deep and babbled with its mindless chatter. A chatter that covered the sounds of her play. Aysu was rarely happy, but today something was different. She'd had a good dream, a dream that told of futures with brighter skies and warmer suns.

Things would not always be so bad.

She flicked a pebble into the water, watched it sink amongst the froth and bubbles, then turned to pounce on a vine that bobbed like a snake in the wind.

"Got'cha!"

--

Shasa found herself to be bored, she had excused herself from her lessons with her mother, because after all what mommy's little princess wanted she got. She wanted to do something else, she knew her lessons were important but she was still a child, she needed to have time to do exactly that.

So that was what had brought her to her current position, which was currently walking along the path she often saw her mother traveling upon. She liked the water and felt as though there was a connection between her and it, like there was something more to it that just the babbles it occasionally chirped.Looking up she saw her sister and of course she simply had to call out to her. “Aysu! You look happy.”

--

Her head snapped round, that pale, ghostly face set with accusing, suspicious eyes. Who was here to ruin her beautiful moment of joy? Oh, it was her sister. The beautiful one.

She steeled herself, reminding herself briefly that it would be easier to just pretend to be happy to see her. Maybe she'd even get bored and go away. Who knew. But she'd try it anyway because she didn't want anything to ruin such a rare day as today.

"Where are you going?" She asked, pressing her paw harder to the vine trapped beneath it, piercing its green flesh with a claw.

"Does it matter?" Sasha inquired a smirk forming across her lips. She shook her head and laughed almost bitterly. "Can't I simply go out and walk without an actual purpose or direction?" She shook her head with a sigh. "What are you doing out here?" She asked interested only slightly. She was starting to learn the ways of playing the little 'game' that was developing in her mind. If only she knew that it was a part of her 'programing'. A part of her DNA so to speak. It was an unwritten code that she would soon find she excelled out.

--

Aysu shrugged, freed her claws from the vine and took a step back, retreating into the undergrowth somewhat. Her face grew angry at her sister's response and that normal bitter resentment came rising to the surface again.

Pretty Shasa with her pretty face and pretty words. Wasn't she just the perfect little Rawal.

"Does it matter?!" She mimicked in response to her sister's question, unable to control herself. "I'm not doing anything."

--

The young rawal's smirk only broadened as she laughed dryly. "Little Aysu, you are so predictable." She commented as she made her way closer to her lower ranked sister. "I don't understand why mother aways has such a difficult time with you," she sighed. "You always do exactly what I think you will," she stated bluntly.

Why her mother had a difficult time decifiering her sister's expression was beyond her. Of course she didn't realize that the sadistic nature that her father had planted inside of her was already awaking as well as his ability to always be one step ahead of everyone else.

--

The female scrunched up her face in an attempt to bite back an angry response. What was wrong with this one today? She was being even more annoying than normal!

"Oh, really? Fine. Think whatever you like. I don't care. Someday Father is going to come back and he's gonna punish you and mother for being so horrible to me all the time. And I'll tell him what bullies you are." She stomped her little paw.

--

"You assume that because of how mother treats you that he'll treat you better, probably because you look just like him," she chuckled as though her sister's pain was making her happy, thrilling her. "I've heard her talk, he bested her and she resents him, and you for it." She grinned. "Karma is a beast when she needs to be."

--

Her frown deepened. "You think he'll treat me worse than Mother? He has no reason to treat me badly. He's an outsider. Colours don't matter to him. To him, we'll all be the same. Even you with your pretty blue fur." She bristled.

"And he'll love me more because I have his colours." She assumed this, but somehow she knew it, too. Knew it because where else would the grey come from?

It came from the father she loved.

--

"You're delusional," Sasha replied starkly. This was the one thing she couldn't figure out, why her sister clung to stupid ideals. "For all you know colours do matter to him, but in a different way," she snorted teeth clenching together in disgust. "I don't care about the opinion some rogue may have of me. I don't need the love of someone who will never be apart of my life. I don't need it." However she knew she was lying to herself. She knew it, she didn't need the love but she wanted it. If only to have both of her parents love and to have Aysu have none. Sasha knew that it was wrong of her to want her sister to remain second best, or even worse than that but she loved the attention she got from her colours. "For all you know he'll resent you because you look like him."

--

Her eyes filled with tears.

The words hurt her. Hurt her more than she could describe. She didn't want to believe her. Wanted to just pretend that she was talking rubbish. But how could she when she couldn't be sure herself? She didn't know her father. Yes, she loved him but that didn't mean he was going to love her.

And here was her sister saying these things and...as much as she wanted to disregard them. What if they were true?

"Go away." She spat, and, though her tears, she turned and dissapeared into the undergrowth, running as fast as her little paws could take her.

Shasa felt the pride well up in her chest as the tears broke out upon her pale sister's face. Her smirk broadened and she stepped forward, just as her sister spat and her and ran. She stood there almost dumbstruck before she shook her head. Typical Aysu, always running away whenever things weren't in her favor, which was more often than not.

She sighed as she watched her lowest-ranked sister's form run off. It was then that she felt a ping of guilt jolt through her body. Why did she feel pleasure from making her sister feel pained? It wasn't right. She needed to fix it.

"Aysu wait!" She called after a moment before scrambling after her.
