i currently have a kramer vanguard. its pretty good. it has quad rails, licensed floyd, 24 frets (i like alot), bolt on neck. however, the floyd limits my playibilty because i play dropped tunings sometimes and its a pain tuning it. so i want to trade in my vanguard for an epiphone goth explorer. it has a set neck, stop bar, alcino classic humbuckers(will eventually change to dimarzio or emg), and 22 frets. i wanna know it thats a good idea to trade.

If you like drop tunings, than go get it set up in a drop tuning. The problem with that is you must keep it in that tuning to be able to use the whammy bar. I cheated and just stuffed some paper underneath my bridge so when I tuned down it would stay that tuning pretty well.

I wouldn't do it though. Not if it's a good guitar with a whammy. Just save up and get it set up for drop tunings. And learning some standard tuning songs is never a bad thing.

depends how much you use the floyd if you barely use it anyway you might aswell trade it

If the trade is with a price range of 300 dollars or more. For example you paid 700 and are trading for a 400 dollar guitar i wouldn't do it. You could always save and buy another floyd and set them up. If not go ahead you may not be a whammy enthusiast anyways.

The Goth Exp is a very good guitar especially after you tweak it and do all the fine tunings on it. I just traded one a month or so ago, I had EMG's in it, replaced the stock knobs for black metal dome knobs, adjusted the action, and made some asthetic alterations. It was kind of a lost cause tho sad I didn't like to play on the thinner fretboards anymore. But it is a very solid guitar and it can definately handle the lower tunings with no problems. It all comes back to askin yourself if you are willing to give up the tremolo. If it isn't a big part of your sound or music then go for it.

Yeah, if you don't use the floyd a lot, just trade it in. If you feel that the floyd is a integral part of your playing, then I'd suggest saving up for another guitar without one.

It does seem that the only issue is drop tuning. If it's only like drop D, you can get a D-tuna off Musician's Friend or a Guitar Center and install that into your Kramer's tremolo bridge. If it's a deeper tuning and you don't use the tremolo that much anyways, then go with the trade.
