Jack's small hooves had clattered against the concrete sidewalk with earnest delight. The broad smile scattered across his pale face was a beacon of sunshine, glittering to the rhythmic tune of clip-clop-clip. He was excited; he was happy. There were many words to describe the expression on his face as he took his strange caretaker's hand and dragged him along towards the community pool's gates.
"Hurry!" He had shouted, nearly tumbling over himself. His springy hair had seemed to bounce with the tumbling motions that had occurred. Every now and then he would jump and hang off of his accompaniment's arm like a traveling monkey. It was a fun invention, and one of the finest perks Jack had discovered in living with Robert - even more so fun than the fact that he seemed to get whatever he wanted so long as he made goo-goo eyes at any particular person Robert pointed out. It was a curious request to Jack, but he was too young to think anything of Robert's actions or decisions. They were all the same - they were a big, fun game loaded with endless rewards and prizes, including the day's prize ... A trip to the community pool to experience swimming for the first time.
"Cut that out, Sunshine-boy. My arm ain't a rope." Robert had tugged Jack back, shaking him off of him with great force. He was a stocky man within his mid-age, tall, large, perhaps in the gruff sense. The funny white stripe that strode through the mid of his head certainly projected a peculiar quirk to the man, but he was far from out of place or frightening when it came to his movements. There was a canter to his walk when he wasn't shaking the boy away, and a riding fatigue that seemed to show he was surely not very good at the job assigned to him as what one could presume the title was 'new parent'.
Jack had huffed in an irritable manner as he was shaken off. His lips had puckered; gradually his eyes had shifted towards the ground ... But he was hasty, and he was young, and unruly, and curious. He eventually began to totter away, his little legs moving with bullish grace until he had nearly tripped along the edge of the kiddy pool sitting diagonally from the main event. Skinned knees! They surely hurt, and thus he had sat up and brought his knees close to him, touching them and tearing up with the occasional seethe. "Ow...Ooooow....OW. OW!" He had muttered loudly, squirming a little in his own tantrum.

Shylock was floating comfortably at the edge of the community pool. He'd have just used the public one back at Cirque but Zane felt it was good to take him out of the Cirque grounds to meet and see other people, so this was where the boy'd been brought.
With his tail wrapped around his bare waist, he leaned against the edge of the pool, red eyes half-lidded as he observed the people going by. Presently, he was fixated on another child, about his age, who'd apparently gotten hurt. The dark skinned boy vaguely wondered if maybe he should go help the other child but usually that's what parents and people with bandages and medical training were for. Though, he had to offer his advice on one matter of importance.
"They'll hurt less if you don't poke them."
