/_.Water gray._///_.Through the windows._///_.Up the stairs._///_.Chilling rain._///_.Like an ocean._///_.Everywhere._//> The First challenge. Into the storm. The newest water mistress sat atop a large boulder on a cliff edge, waiting for the contestants to arrive. Behind her raged a tumultuous storm where lightning raged and the clouds rolled in an eerie fashion over the darkened sea. Below here lay two large scrolls, protected with magic from becoming wet with the light drizzle. The directions above them read, ' Choose one of the two, and answer the riddle within.'
The first read, An old man wanted to leave all of his money to one of his three sons, but he didn't know which one he should give it to. He gave each of them a few coins and told them to buy something that would be able to fill their living room. The first man bought straw, but there was not enough to fill the room. The second bought some sticks, but they still did not fill the room. The third man bought two things that filled the room, so he obtained his father's fortune. What were the two things that the man bought?
The second, This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious how quickly you can find out, What is so unusual about it? It looks so plain you would think nothing was wrong with it! In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is unusual though. Study it, and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out! Try to do so without any coaching.
The mistress was there to receive answers.
(The original challenge was damaged because of a malfunction last night, so please bear with me. The second challenge will be better, To submit an answer please PM me. You only get three total tries, so choose wisely which riddle you'll answer. Also, please dont look them up. I will trust you not to cheat.)</If there is //м â ĝ í č// on this planet, it is contained in //ﻬ Щ Ǎ Т Є Я ﻬ//>>

A lukewarm breeze that recklessly tossed the woman's long black braid was the first indication that she had reached the shore. Even from where she stood, the horizon was overrun by the growing storm that encroached upon their Realm. Raven Kanzaki sighed lightly; she had never been fond of storms, and tried to avoid them as much as possible.
She had not traversed too far, for the Sea was home to her; she had trekked the way by foot, carrying simple objects with her. She favored her Primary Physical Weapon, a Naginata. It was a scythe-like weapon, it's shaft made of Mahogany wood that was capped by a blade of steel approximately eighteen inches long. It's width expanded from one inch to two and a half, and jutted at an angle that left the tip quite sharp. A tiny chain, hooped on each end of the links, allowed it to remain strapped to her back. Around her waist she kept a flask of herbs such as Lavender, which she had discovered allowed her to remain calm in the most dire of situations. She also used these to treat certain wounds and poisons--a skill she had picked up long before she came to train as an Apprentice under her Mistress Gabriela. Even now, Raven could see the woman perched upon a boulder formation, a silhouette on the cliff edge against the darkening sky.
Raven peered down at herself; was she presentable for such a tournament? She had decided to dress lightly once more, bearing her familiar black breeches. Tucked in, she wore a loose cotton shirt that replaced her torn blue one; much like the sea, this shirt was a brilliant Jade Green. Her bustier remained black, the leather reinforced with the small plates of steel that acted as her armor. Her usual black boots were instead replaced by black slippers. The wind had done little to keep her hair at bay; her ebony bangs framed her eyes in a manner that the sharp green optics could clearly be seen, even in contrast to her pale, porcelain-colored skin.
Pursing her lips, Raven trekked onward, slowly making her way towards her Mistress. There had been a strong reason for her coming here. Ever since her first test against the Water Mistress, which had ended in a stalemate, and the dangerous spar she had against the Fire Wielder Ash, Raven had wanted to expand her horizons, and her ability of Water against other Elements. A tournament had been decided upon, and she knew that it was the perfect opportunity to see how far she could go, and what she required to improve upon if she ever wished to pass on her knowledge as an appointed Mistress.
When she had finally arrived, she realized that there were directions there for her. Quickly her eyes scanned over it; was this a part of the tournament? A challenge to see if she was even worth participating in? As a spy in her former life, Raven had become adept at unraveling mysteries. While her logic was not perfect, she was skilled at seeing things that others often overlooked. Narrowing her gaze, Raven peered down at two forms that appeared to be scrolls. Contemplating her choices, the woman stooped and pushed the first scroll aside, scanning the contents.
An old man wanted to leave all of his money to one of his three sons, but he didn't know which one he should give it to.
Well this is interesting...Raven reflected to herself; it was a riddle! She had finished reading the riddle once, and decided to read it three more times. Four was, after all, a number that always brought luck to her. Soon, she began to work the knowledge of what she knew of the riddle, and what she suspected would lead to the answer. As possibilities flickered into her mind, a tiny smile appeared on her face, and she neatly rolled the scroll again. Finally she stood, and after a moment of finalization decided she had at last reached what she believed was the right answer.
Now Raven wandered over to Gabriella, taking a moment to dip into a courteous bow towards her Mistress, before taking her place behind the woman. It felt natural to stand with the woman whom she would--in a manner of speaking--be representing.

[OOC: I'm using Asuko as my RP name, just to clear any confusion.]
It was almost as though the storm had known of his arrival, the winds there to cheer his wake. As though the disturbance was an omen of his forthcoming. This, however, was a vain thought. Asuko chuckled to himself silently, as he flew in, arms spread wide. He swooped down, and quickly pulled upwards, straightening himself, and positioning himself to land. Slowly, he descended, winds kicking up heavily around him, to cushion his fall. Silently, through the rumbling and howling of the storm, he landed, unnoticed for the moment.
The winds, though they hardly ever played kind to him, seemed to caress his face has he approached. For once, there was fluid movement around him, as opposed to the roughness the breeze had upon him. Truly, today was in his favor. Or so he hoped. The challenge before him, seemed nearly ominous, as the silent Water Mastress reclined upon the dark and large boulder. Lightning occasionally lit up the area beyond the clif, briefly only showing a dark outline of the cliff. Asuko suffered a nervous chill.
Nervous as he was, he strode forwards with his chest stuck out. As he approached, he could see the directions eerily floating above the eerily floating scrolls, one of which had recently been held by a challenger already there. Oh no, I'm no the first here... Hopefully the one she didn't touch, was a different one than the one she read..., Asuko thought. Contemplating this, he promptly reached forwards, and unfurled the second scroll.
This is an unusual paragraph.
He read it over. And over again. And once more. And another time, for good measure. And several times more, trying to scry the oddity of the paragraph. Maybe it was because of an error, and that the sentences of it are lying? He definitely could pick out some errors in it. He judged that that was the answer to the riddle. With confidence, he furled back the scroll, and 'hung' it back in place. He strode up next to the first challenger, but not before paying his respects to the Water Mistress, bowing before her grace. He did it out of courtesy, since technically he was not required, as he was the Master of Wind, himself.

Raven smiled, nodding to the newcomer. She keenly observed the manner in which he moved, and what it was about the area that reacted to him. It had become clear that he was a Master, and Raven bowed out of respect for the man.
The chilling drizzle was comforting against her skin, the tiny droplets of water condensing upon the flesh's surface and dripping down in streaks. Her bangs were damp, matted against her cheeks to keep the fly-aways at bay from the Wind. The storm was surely closing in on them, and Raven silent cursed herself for one of many weaknesses. She rocked back and forth upon her heels, now; her hands were clasped behind her back. Leaning inward, she dropped her voice to a quiet whisper, projecting her answer towards Gabriella, "I can tell you, the answer to the first is..." She allowed her voice to trail off, choosing to answer with another skill that she rarely used in this world.
Instead, she projected her answer in a manner of the mind, the answer bubbling up inside of Gabriella's imagination. As an Elementalist, Raven's strongest Element was Water, and her personal Daemon, the black Panther Jesta' solidified her connection to it. Jesta' herself allowed for a multitude of traffic to flow inside and out of the mind that was known as "telepathy". Because Gabriella shared the connection with Water, it was more natural for the woman to hear Raven's mental voice than any other Master or Mistress of another Element. Wavelengths passed much easier through Water than any other Primary Element.

Mikiela stared at the riddle before her, pondering the question. She cursed the luck that brought her before the riddlers, and despaired that she was not good at answering them. She thought about it, then formulated her reply. The fire apprentice turned her head and mumbled her answer to the riddle.

/_.Water gray._///_.Through the windows._///_.Up the stairs._///_.Chilling rain._///_.Like an ocean._///_.Everywhere._//> Excitement bubbled up within Gabriela as she saw the contestants arriving one by one. This was her first tournament and her pride certainly resided on it going well. The first to arrive was her apprentice, next was the air master and the last to come had been her old friend. The storm raged on and on, getting closer. Gabriela knew that as soon as it came to them, the second challenge must begin. She only hoped the other contestants arrived before that.
Raven came to stand and she bowed to gabriela, and the mistress returned the favor. One of the newer apprentices, Raven was still wise and she expected the answer to come from her to be right. Instead of the whispered answer as she had expected, for the storm could have hidden any voice that wasnt at a minimum of a yell, a small thought popped into her mind. Raven's voice announced the answer in a telepathic way and gabriela nodded. It was correct. "Congratulations, Raven. You have passed, Please stand over to the right of the boulder, there you will find temporary shelter from the storm while the others answer." In fact, Gabriela had magicked it so that no water penetrated that immediate area.
The Air master approached her and she waited for his answer, but mikiela replied first. Her answer wasn't at all the correct one and gabriela shook her head. "I'm sorry, but no. That is not correct, Please try again." </If there is //м â ĝ í č// on this planet, it is contained in //ﻬ Щ Ǎ Т Є Я ﻬ//>>

Asuko, being the courteous man that he was, allowed for the next challenger, another female, to answer before him. He had kind graces, and, though he had the chance of being wrong, was convinced that he would be right. He silently stood there, willing the winds to blow the rain around him, protecting himself from getting wet for the most part. He didn't think to help the other lady, because of the task at hand, and the answer he had to remember. Which, he finally got his chance. The first challenger didn't even seem to speak the answer, and yet the message got through to her. Well, two can play at that game, he thought.
Controlling the air yet again, bending it to his will, he forced the air right at the Water Mistress' ears to vibrate, replicating a tiny voice, only loud enough to be heard by her and her only. It was through this that he conveyed to her the answer. To make sure that she knew it was him saying, it, he leaned in towards her, and cupped his hand next to his mouth, as if he were going to say something to her halfway secretive, yet he didn't move his lips.

Gabriela nodded her head, and her mane of black curls followed along. "Congratulations, Master Asuko! You have passed, Please stand over to the right of the boulder, along with Raven, there you will find temporary shelter from the storm while the others answer." She smiled.

A faint smile appeared on her lips, and Raven nodded silently. She dipped into a more informal curtsy as she slipped away from near her Mistress, and over to the right side of the boulder. It was a moment of relief to feel the comfort of dry air. Turning, she looked past what she knew was the barrier in which water did not penetrate. Even the rain that had fallen onto her skin was now gone and on the other side.
It was unlike most of the other Water Apprentices; Raven did not simply will the water to bend to what it was that she wanted, but first asked. Often the exchange went unnoticed; there had only been an instance in which Raven could not wield the Water--a great war among the different realms of Elements. They had been dark times, and the world had since recovered from it. Such a tournament would almost be a small reminder of that larger war held; hopefully it would be more peaceful. Raven decided to kneel by the ground, closer to the water on the other side. Now, she would silently call upon the water, and begin to practice the exercises her Mistress had trained the Apprentices for. A smooth sphere of water was beginning to form outside the barrier; it would be much larger than any sphere she had ever created, easily the size of a bowling ball. It was there that Raven meditated on holding its shape for as long as she could.

Mika was not altogether thrilled with the setting of the first challenge, it was too...wet. But then again she was in the water element's territory. With a look of displeasure, she settled with releasing a firey aura around her that would cause the water droplets to evaporate before they could reach her. She leaned over the first scroll and continued to stare at the riddle, she had already tried to answer it twice and had twice been wrong, what was off in her reasoning? What two things could fill a room...the first two times she had thought of tangible things that might have something to do with the straw and sticks of the other two brothers but..."aaah!" mika thought, running a hand through her reddish brown hair in frustration. "aggravating things, riddles," she thought, they are really just...never what you initially expect! Sighing heavily she looked down at her hands, they were a slight orange color due to the aura she was giving off, they radiated light and heat too... It was then that her eyes widened and her mind went, "AH!" She had thought of something that could fill a room and in the process, had realized the two things that could create it.

/_.Water gray._///_.Through the windows._///_.Up the stairs._///_.Chilling rain._///_.Like an ocean._///_.Everywhere._//> Once Mika relayed her answer to Gabriela, the water mistress nodded and allowed the fire mistress to continue to the drier area behind the rocks.
In her mind, she calculated the numbers. Everyone that had arrived had passed but Mikaela, and Two contestants were unaccounted for. She only hoped that Ash and her previous master would make it in time....</If there is //м â ĝ í č// on this planet, it is contained in //ﻬ Щ Ǎ Т Є Я ﻬ//>>
