The day so far had been pretty uneventful, but that wasn't that unusual. Teppy was used to very dull, repetitive days by herself in the forest. She had her daily routine and it was only interrupted if she happened to meet someone passing through. When that happened she might chat with them a bit, or show them the places worth seeing in the area, but then they would be off on their way again and Teppy returned to her daily activities. It was a very quiet existence.

Someday, Teppy thought, I will be one of those travelers.

From her place on the hill she looked around, seeing the human settlement in the distance. Except for the occasional visit to her two-legger, she usually stayed away. With a little sigh she turned the other way, knowing that lands she couldn't even imagine could lie over the horizon. If it wasn't for her silly fear of open space! Because of it she didn't want to leave the safety of the trees. Shaking her head at the excuses she was making, the mare started down the hill. Perhaps she would go that way a little, just to get an idea of what she might find...

It was another one of them days, quiet and the ill silence lingering everywhere you went, ok the occasional song of a lurking bird would tweet through the air but apart from that the company was lacking as much as ever. Alex never really minded the silence, it had always been a form of peace he respected and it was natural, with no need to actually speak or feel like you were doing wrong by keeping silent. He exhaled a sigh into the air, watching a few leaves float in waves along with the warm breath as he pushed by loose branches gently.

Maybe it was time for him to start looking for that one special person. His father had mentioned sooo many times his never ending love for his mother, and it was a love honestly so sweet it could make you sick, but that sort of dedication was inspiring... In a way. 'would that suit me? Always searching for more knowledge hoping to become stronger to protect those I love... What if it was trouble? They always said picking at these things caused more trouble than its worth..'

Alex saw the light of day peaking through a few cracks in the branches ahead of his travels, it was surely open land, but something brought him a couple of paces back, with a quick turn of his head and a quiet snort he looked over to where the sound of hooves plodded; ears twittered in place.

"... Hello?" He spoke aloud, strongly, lifting his head calmly to try pear over the over existing foliage.

The slow pace Temperance chose suggested that she had no where to go and all the time in the world to get there. The mare passed through the foliage with practiced grace, developed over seasons of dwelling among the trees. It was still early in the year and most of the trees were decorated by young leaves, freshly unfurled and a cooling green. A bird singing caught Teppy's attention and she paused, listening to it's joyful song.

Did the trees seem thinner here? She squinted ahead, guessing that she was coming to... open space. Oh wonderful, barely off the hill and already it looked like she had to turn back. Well, she might as well take a look while she was there. Teppy let out a quiet, disappointed "hmm" as she stepped forward again.

Something interrupted the sunbeam. A shadow, her size if not a little larger. Keeping her hoof falls as quiet as possible, she suddenly heard a strong, masculine voice. Was it a traveler passing through? It took a lot of effort for her to control her enthusiasm. Still, she couldn't help but continue ahead to meet the stranger, a friendly smile on her face.

"Hello! Sorry if I startled you. I didn't know you were there." Politely Teppy lowered her head.

Alex watched the gracefully developed mare enter into his vision, and he was relieved when he saw it was only a female, she looked to be of no harm with how she approached him. She was a beautiful marked mare, all criss crossed in a variety of colours unlike his blank pelt. Although many had complimented it and he'd been happy to oblige by them.

The ribbon came first in the steady encounter, it would have been something his sister would have adored, it had been a while since he had last seen his family, and the familiarity brought a warm hearted smile to his expression.

He pulled himself up a little to look a little more presentable at least to the mare. Usually he was all over the place, shoulders slouched head hung, but lately he'd had more pride.. Ha, Alex with a bit of thought to a greeting. It was al new, to him at least.

"Ah, nah its alright young lady~ I was pretty surprised at your presence, but im happy you were there. These tree's were becoming all too repetitive in the silence." He waited a minute, watching the tree branches lower and creak above wandering several steps closer. "umm.. My names Alex" He bowed his head honorably. "and who's company would I be blessed with dear lady?"

It wasn't everyday that Teppy met such a courteous stallion. She laughed good naturedly, her posture steady but relaxed. "My name's Temperance, but I'd rather go by Teppy." Since foalhood she had always preferred her nickname to her formal title. It made her think back to her days with her father and sister. Her father was proud of his children, though he was sometimes a little too protective of his daughters. Teppy could remember some of the antics she pulled with her sister, scaring her poor father with their daringness. But that was long ago, and she hadn't seen them since she grew up. Sometimes she wondered if her brother and sister had families of their own, or if she had younger siblings...

"Nice to meet you, Alex." She couldn't help but look over the mostly white stallion in front of her. Perhaps if she had gone traveling like she wished, she would know the word 'angeni' and would be able to place it on Alex. But Teppy didn't have one word to describe him in mind. She had met winged Soquili before, but not one with delicate wings like his, or a long tail more like a cat's than hers. Her curiosity made her stare and little too long. Once she realized what she was doing she looked away quickly, hoping Alex hadn't noticed.

She looked towards the unknown open space. "Are you just passing through? I live in this forest, yet I'm not sure what's past here." She smiled again, though this time it was a little embarrassed. Just looking that was enough to stir her irrational phobia and send a jolt of fear through her. She closed her eyes and turned away from it, once again hoping that Alex wasn't paying any mind to what she was doing. Teppy was ashamed of her silly fear and hated telling people about it. Not everyone understood it, after all.

She was... Staring? Alex quirked a simple smirk along his jaw and swiftly let the two dark blue orbs attach to her own, following in her guidance as she studied him. Well, someone was curious now, wasn't they? He wondered what she thought, what was going through the random strangers mind now pronouncing herself as 'Teppy' an unusual name, thats probably why he liked it.

'meeeh Its got a ring to it' He thought, tilting his head a little to let the bangs smoothly float out of his gaze. "Nice to meet you too, Teppy. Wonderful name you have, its quite unusual." His smirk broadened into a soft smile and as her gaze drifted from him one was to wonder if it was something he'd said; was it? He stepped forwards calmly and nudged his nose under her chin, bringing back his head after.

He spoke softly.

"Hey... Are you okay? Excuse me if I were to say something wrong. I'm not very good with... Others. Y'know" he shrugged lightly, fumbling his expression to a more apologetic one - just incase.

"Really? What a shame... You should see them, there amazing. I was gonna pass through, but now. I think I'm gonna keep you some company. You arrre an interesting character; No really. You seem it "

Gently Alex brought her gaze back to him, her expression flicking from shame to surprise, then settling on one that was calmer, but perhaps a little apologetic. She hadn't meant to make Alex feel that he had done something wrong. It was a very effective distraction from the fear she held inside.

"Don't apologize..." She lowered her muzzle a little, her bangs settling around her face, obscuring it. "It's nothing you did, honest." Then she looked up, her cyan eyes bright and cheerful once again. She gave Alex a reassuring smile. "You're fine, really. Do not worry. And thank you!" Her smile grew, appreciative of his compliments, before it was suddenly vanquished like a flame to water.

"I'm just..." She swallowed nervously. "A little afraid to go over there. Out of the trees. It's silly, isn't it?" Her voice grew less confident as she addressed her phobia. Very few knew about it and she was uneasy telling a stranger how she felt. Not even her family knew about it. When she was small she was able to hide it better, since things were so much bigger to a filly and easy to hide in. But in her adulthood, only trees gave the same, surrounding comfort. "I'm afraid of going out there, though I want to see what is there, if you say 'they' are amazing." She gave a lighthearted laugh, truly wondering what he meant by 'them'. "Umm... w-will you show me?" Maybe if she had Alex with her, she wouldn't feel such crushing fear. He had already helped her once; perhaps if she wasn't alone she wouldn't feel so afraid.

Alex willingly listened quite comfortable to hear what issues she had, he was also flattered by how trusting she was of him. Did he really give that.. Idea out? He was pretty glad if he did, it just outlined it more easier for people that he hated being kept clueless. What eased him the most was that, it wasn't something he had said or done that upset her, but her phobia, of exiting what seemed to be her home. He flickered his gaze around to the swaying leaves and branches wondering what it must be like being stuck in there all day long, just watching as seasons changed the tree's; came and went in the blink of an eye.

"No its not silly." He admitted, looking more calmer trying to comfort the mare. "Not silly at all. If you have a fear, or worry of something. TO YOU it is something that is important and it shouldn't matter what another might think of it." He smiled warmly and pressed forth in steps swiftly passed her, turning his head sidewards to glance back.

"Of course I will help you, Teppy." He answered with a more cheery smile. "Your a sweet girl, you don't deserve to be stuck in here like you have been. The worlds an amazing place, and it deserves your attention" he looked out, passion burning in his eyes with the knowledge he had learned from the world by going not even so far away from home... To deprive someone of that, is just.. Cruel. That's what he thought, at least.

"You really think so?" Her voice came out quietly. Teppy was a little startled by his reasoning and his understanding of her fear. Truthfully, she wasn't sure what she was expecting from him. It seemed like such a simple thing for others to pass from trees to space and back again, and obviously Alex had no trouble doing so either. For someone else to actually understand that the fear that gripped her so tightly was a real fear, and not something silly, was a little surprising, if not overwhelming. As he went on Teppy hid her face in her mane again, a turmoil of emotions making her eyes tingle with tears and her cheeks feel warm. "T-thank you..."

The passion in Alex's face spurred Teppy into following him. She took a deep breath to compose herself, taking time to flick each strand of her bangs back into place. "What is out this way?" She asked with a wary smile, though her ears were forward and alert. Steps were soft and careful as she went, she came to his side. Maybe if she went out once with Alex, she could come back again and be less nervous. A familiar open space would be better than a strange open space...

Alex settled on a secure nod as she came closer, the smile never left the cheery features. He really did want to help her, and nothing was going to change that. He understood how most would push someone to the limits without patience, to be cruel rather than kind with a situation like this and he wanted to show her, that he was a stranger from the outside that had a kind heart that she could rely on whenever she needed to. From what he could see from how she reacted, the shy, withdrawn attitude at even the mention of her phobia, hadn't been able to comfortably put trust in someone.

"Your welcome... Now come on, smile for me. Smiling suits you more if I may say so" a light chuckle grasped the air, just above her height at least, his head bobbing naurally as they walked. He managed to stop several paces away from a berry bush where it cracked rarely in the mass of leaves, but at least she could have a sly peak of an open space through it. He looked down at her face, lowering his head to nuzzle the moist that had stained the color filled cheeks.

"Hey, its ok. I'm not gonna be harsh on you at all. I would never. I just want to help and I'll stay as long as it takes, even forever if it comes to it" he thought about her question, then tilted his head side to side, the black ribbon jingling along with the knights motion. "Its just the great flat. Where the grass sways peacefully along with the wind, where you can relax in peace, grazing in the suns spotlight." It was the best he could do for description, he was trying to make something that would seem so ordinary to any normal person, tempting and special.

Teppy was feeling more and more reassured. She smiled when asked, the motion helping her confidence. "Thank you so much, still. Nobody's ever really gone out of their way to help me before." She eyed the berry bush cautiously, spying small dark fruit among it's leaves.

The flat sounded quite beautiful. The last time she had been out in the open was when the grass grew almost as tall as she was. What would it be like to gaze across the land from her level now? Tentatively she stepped to the bush, peeking through the slight break in the leaves.

Almost immediately she jumped back. Her eyes were wide, but not fearful... They were excited now, with the discovery of something new. "Oh wow! It is beautiful!" She laughed, a little giddy. She felt like she had done something daring just by looking.
