I never really cared for Arch Enemy, the vocals are atrocious.

I'm in agreement with Digi here. Angela Gossow is a terrible vocalist and none of them can write a good riff to save their lives.

Though if AE tickles your fancy, Kas, I would recommend trying this. Basically, picture a carbon copy of TJR-era In Flames with AE's vocals. A little too derivative for my taste (and I've already stated how I feel about AE's vox), but perhaps you'll enjoy it.

Can't write a good riff?!?!

Say what you will about Angela Gossow, but Michael Amott is amazing.

Ash: well, vocals are not what I actually liked the most on this one. It's the drums, I tend to believe.

And in fact these particular riffs are not theirs wink .

Anyway, Shadow didn't buy me... Sorry...

I'd never seen that before either. But I must say it's quite a bit of awesome. o:

Amott did good work with Carnage and Carcass, but I've yet to be impressed by anything he's produced with Arch Enemy.

@Kas: I know they didn't write this song, I was referring to their original material. Hmn, no? Well, I tried. razz

I like this one better than the Manowar cover to be honest. I mean otherwise I have no problem with Angela Gossow, but I don't like her covers I have to say.

the riffs for arch enemy are pretty mediocre. in fact, i've only ever heard one enjoyable AE song, and it was an instrumental guitar solo. the guy can obviously play, i just am not moved by what he produces.

it's like van halen - eruption is very good, very technically challenging to play. however, i find eddie van halen to be the most boring, unmoving guitarist i've ever heard. he plays with no emotion at all.

This. Whenever I'm disappointed in his work with Arch Enemy, I go back and listen to Heartwork and its all OK again.

I would respond to your accusation with just two words: Yngwie Malmsteen

i've never really listened to much yngwie, idk why, but my response to van halen is usually randy rhodes. they were playing at similar times, and both were excellent technical guitarists, both used fingertapping and other cool techniques, but randy always put feeling into it, whereas eddie van halen has always sounded like he's just practicing.

When I said Malmsteen, I was reffering to the part about being technically challenging but totally emotionless. Of course Randy is totally awesome, but that's not what I was talking about :S

Ehhhh, Malmsteen has at least some degree of emotion in some of his songs... Michael Angelo Batio, on the other hand... Sterile as a medical clinic. confused
