Harry Potter Chat Who's with me? So let's discuss it! We can talk about the books, movies, rumors, actors, the author, your favorite character, or whatever. BEWARE!!! There may be spoilers!! Please read at your own risk!!
If you know you're gonna type a spoiler, then please make a big, obvious warning at the top of your post or make the text containing the spoiler white. This way someone doesn't accidentally read something they don't wanna know yet. I know I put up the "Beware" warning, but there will always be someone who hasn't read book such-and-such yet, but still would like to talk about Harry Potter stuff.
If you forget to put a spoiler warning up or to white-out your spolier text, then I'll edit it for you. No worries!

I'm with you! I like the books better than the movies, but my favorite thing is listening to the audiobooks. Jim Dale, the reader on the audiobooks, is amazing!
I'll type more later. I'm typing with 1 hand since I'm holding Z with the other.

I haven't tried the audio books yet. I should look for them!
I like the books best as well (I'm like that with most movies based on books), but i think the movies are being done pretty well. I like the casting and the direction as well as the great effects.
How many of you have read book 6 yet? I read it not too long ago. I really like where the story is going.... eventhough it was pretty sad.

My sister has all the audio tapes. They are very well done. I've olny seen the movies and heard a little of the tapes, but do love the movies. The best thing about Harry Potter to me is that it taught my sister to read. She is extermly dyslexic (sp). When my mom bought her the first book she was about 16 and read at like a fifth grade level. (or lower) She love the books so much that she would read along with the tapes, and was determined to learn to read them on her own. Now we can't get her to stop reading! Thank goodness for Harry Potter huh.

Cool Angie! I loved to read before Harry Potter came along, but I am always very determined to read and get through each book when it comes out, so I can kind of understand where your sister is coming from. Reading is fun! biggrin
I read book six when I bought it a few weeks after it came out. But once I bought it, it came with me everywhere because I couldn't put it down. xd I'd read it on my break at work, in between classes or on my way to school, etc etc. I was so pissed and sad when the "certain character" died at the end of book 6, but it was one hell of a cliffhanger!

That is cool Angie. I'm glad HP helped your sis out!
I try to encourage my kiddos into books. I hope they turn out to be huge bookworms like I am. They do love to be read to that's for sure! And I've already gotten them familiar with HP. They recognize my HP books and they recognize all the HP commercials on tv! xd Pretty good for a 3 and 4 year old.
And yes, it was super sad when Dumbledore died. I was kind of expecting it, but at the same time, I was still surprised by it. I am REALLY looking forward to seeing what happens in 7. I mean, Harry still has to find all those horcruxes and finally do away with Voldemort (seeing as how the series is supposed to end at 7 books).

SPOILER WARNING
I've heard that Harry might die at the end of Book 7, as a surprise twist in the plot. Like he'd defeat Voldemort, and then not survive afterwards. I've also heard Dumbledore might come back.

I'm really really excited for GoF the movie version because this is where hopefully they can't pussyfoot around and make everything all funny and kid it down. This is where things start getting SERIOUS. Adult Serious. Like people killing other people serious (I figured that wasn't a spoiler since the last three books have had someone die in them. But if you want to Loki you can edit them out.)
Now, onto Spoliery type talk: I've mused about the death of Dumbledore and really I hope he doesn't come back. I thought to myself when he died and basically held Harry there to see it pretty much pulled an Obi-Wan Kenobi if you know what I mean. I do think that it's possible that Snape may not be as bad as all of that...that perhaps the death of Dumbledore was discussed even beforehand. Essentially as a part of the plot I enjoy it because it leaves Harry all alone to fight Voldemort. I mean he has Hermione and Ron and such but no one OLDER and more WISE than him. He can't run to someone he can't get advice from the seemingly all knowing older wizard, he (and his friends) are going to have to be ADULTS be the wizards they are and get it done.

Spoiler stuff below:
arrow Now that Dumbledore is gone, there's no one besides Harry whom Voldemort is afraid of. Harry has always known (at least in the back of his head) that Dumbledore was around somewhere, but now that's not the case. I think that the only way we'll see Dumbledore again is as a portrait in the Headmistress's office (McGonagall is the new Headmistress, right?) and possibly a portrait elsewhere. As a portrait though, Dumbledore will be able to give Harry some advice but pretty much has no power to help him defeat Voldemort. Harry still has no backup whom Voldemort is afraid of. exclaim

Spoilerriffic! I hope that Dumbledore doesn't come back as well. I think his death has more meaning and plot development if he STAYS dead. As much as hated for him to die, I think it'll help the story in the long run. And I'm thinking like kmaritza on the whole painting thing. I mean all the other past head masters have their paintings up and can speak through them as if they're still alive, so it's not unthinkable that this would be possible with Dumbledore as well. So i think he's physically gone, but will still be there for wise old sage advice on occassion.
Also, with Snape, I'm thinking that that whole thing was arranged. I mean, why else would Dumbledore have been SO adamant that Snape was trustworthy and good? I'd hate to think that Dumbledore was just THAT snowed by Snape. It wouldn't fit his character at all to be THAT gullible. I'm thinking we'll find out in book 7 what's Snapes real agenda is.
As far as Harry dying at the end of book 7, that wouldn't surprise me. But at the same time, I'm hoping that Sirius will get to come back somehow and he and Harry will get to have a family-life together like Harry had always wanted. That's the sappy, happy-ending lover in me talking though. Most likely it won't happen. Even though Sirius is my fave character! ninja

Nopenname I'm really really excited for GoF the movie version because this is where hopefully they can't pussyfoot around and make everything all funny and kid it down. This is where things start getting SERIOUS. Adult Serious. Like people killing other people serious. I too am really excited to see how this movie will go. I've been looking forward to seeing the movies get into the more "meatier" subjects of the later books. Definitely not gonna be all kid stuff and sunshine from here on out! And I am REALLY looking forward to seeing how the Tri-Wizaed tournament is done in the movie. The whole time I was readin the book, I was all "Wow. How are they gonna translate this into the movie?!" Can't wait!

Soooooo, did anyone get to go see the movie today? Was it awesome?
I didn't get to go today, but i am hoping to go by next weekend sometime. Hopefully the MAIN rush of people going to see it will have dwindled at least slightly by then.... probably not though. I never have liked super crowded theatres.
