A slow, pleasant hum could be heard echoing the sea's gently rocking waves. When traced back to its owner, the song seemed to come forth from a strange piece of coral, and, if one came close, they would realize that this wasn't a piece of coral at all. Rather, the wordless song was vocalized by a petite mare, quite unique with her abnormal mutations.

Coraline's crystal-blue eyes were set on the ocean's horizon, as they often were. She was searching for a rare encounter with a creature of the sea; many times had she spotted a group of Kelpi mares crooning their lovely songs on a faraway shore or the elegant dance of Mer soquili that wandered to the clear-watered, shallow areas by Cory's home. Having seen these events, she wanted to experience a meeting with those that could breathe underwater. To live through their eyes by way of imagination, supplemented by mere word.

But the sea was calm today, and the song stopped, giving way for a low sigh. The gentle wind shifted Coraline's sea-foam blue hair, moving the strands that refused to be held back by the pearl-strand "ribbon" a kind human had bestowed upon the mare. 'Yet another quiet day, huh?' Coraline turned about, facing the trail that lead up to her clifftop cave, letting another sigh escape her throat. She began walking, yet after a few steps, she could not help but flash one last yearning look over her shoulder back at the sea, 'just maybe...'

Cade was enjoying her visit back to the sea, playing among the rolling waves of the deep sea and visiting the seathi among the coral, but still her lake called her back. She lingered near the shore not quite ready to leave the salty waters for the long difficult journey upriver. Some other mersoquili had compared her to a giant salmon to which she'd just laughed. So what if she enjoyed fresh water and sunbathing on the rocks of her lake and river? It was the life she enjoyed and she was content with it.

A sweet song slowly creeped in to interrupt Cade's musings. Before she even fully realized it she was dancing through the waves following the song toward its source. As she neared the beach the song stopped and the mersoq huffed blowing out a series of bubbles into the waves. "I'll never find the singer now," she said to herself as she swam up to the surface and looked around. She took note of movement heading toward the cliffs... could that be the one? Letting out a hopeful whinny she continued closer to land hoping to catch the singer before she departed.

A whinny. That was all it took to change everything. Upon hearing the sound, evidently originated from the waters, Coraline spun around, eyes bright and expectant. Could this be the day? Her eyes eagerly swallowed up the scene, tracing its contours three times over before settling on a warm-colored soquili sitting in the water nearby.

Coraline gave the other a confident smile and began walking, using all her strength to keep herself from galloping towards the promising shape floating in the sea. It had to be a mermaid, had to be. She returned the whinny, signaling that she was friendly.

Just about to say 'hello', Cory stopped in her tracks when she saw the mermaid's tail through the clear water. 'How unusual!' Every Mer Coraline had seen before had webbed tails, but this Mer's tailfin seemed to fan out at the end. 'The closest I've been to a mermaid, and this is the one I get to confront!' Giddy with the thought, the pink and white mare allowed herself to speed-walk until she finally reached the edge of the beach. What a beautiful sight. "H-hello!" Coraline cursed herself internally for stumbling over the first word.

Cade circled in the waters and watched the curious soquili as she approached the shore. She was certainly unique resembling a piece of coral. Secure in her ability to move over wet rocks and sand the mer swam up closer than most of her kind would dare. "Good day," she replied grinning at the stuttered hello. "I heard such a lovely song and it lead me here do you know where it came from?" she asked tilting her head curiously.
