It breaks my heart that someone could be so insensitive to another being's feelings. I mean, if the pup is crying in pain, doesn't that tell you that the DOG IS IN PAIN??? Another thing that makes me angry, although it isn't illegal, is when people have elderly or handicapped animals, and they just put them in the animal shelter like all those years that they spent loving them don't matter......I want to just go smack them up a bit!! scream

I HATE ANIMAL CRUELTY. gonk I mean, who's a jerk enough to hurt a poor animal?
I was in tears after reading an article on animal abuse in a October 2005 Cat Fancy magazine. Shall I quote some of it to you? 'Silent Victims of Domestic Violence - Pets need safe havens too.' from Cat Fancy issue Oct 05 "When I was away from home one day, my housemate kicked [my dog] Daphne out," says Jean Jones* of Berks County, Pa. "She wandered the streets, living with a colony of feral cats." The late November nights were too cold for the sweet, frightened 4-year-old Chihuahua to be out alone. "I searched and searched, but I couldn't find her," Jean says. "Each day, my housemate threatened to evict my cats, too." Jean lived with Baby, a gentle, affectionate 9-year-old tortoiseshell cat, and Midnight, a playful black 9-month-old kitten. Thirteen days later, someone reconized Daphne from Jean's newspaper ads and returned her. A short time later, when Jean's housemate attempted to choke her, Jean realized it was time to leave. But where could an abused woman with three pets go on short notice? Fortunately, Berks Women in Crisis ran a shelter for battered women. They invited Jean to move into their shelter until she could find a new apartment. They also told her about PetNet, a temporary foster care program established in cooperation with the Humane Society of Berks County (HSBC) for the pets of people impacted by domestic violence. A friend was able to care for Daphne, so Jean called PetNet and arranged to drop off Baby and Midnight. "I was so relieved that day, because I knew everything would be all right," Jean says. *Jean's last name has been changed for this article.

Anyone who can harm an animal should be taken out back and shot (sorry. grew up in a hick town). Ya kow. If people had done to them what they do to the animals then maybe they would think twice about doing it. .........hum....... *goes off to find the kitten stabber*

I've heard about so many cases... Cats being put into microwaves, dog being tied to a rock and tossed into the ocean, cat being shot with an arrow.. evil Wicked people! I don't understand how anyone can manage to do such things! Don't they have a conscience? Luckely I haven't seen much animal abuse myself, but I know it's happening a lot. Some people think it's cool, but it's not! I'd like to put them into a microwave so they could see how wicked their acts are. Take a look at this if you have strong stomach; this torture happends all the time. I saw a documentary on this when I was younger and the pictures still haunts me. I appologize if this has been mentioned on this site before. http://www.animalsasia.org/index.php?module=3&lg=enExcept from the site: ''It is estimated that up to 10 million dogs are slaughtered every year in China, many deliberately slowly and cruelly in the belief that "torture equals taste", whilst all suffer the stress and pain of being farmed in concentrated numbers before being killed in a variety of ways which rarely ensures a quick and humane death.''

Oh my God.
Charinje, I didn't even realize that one of the pictures were of dogs until I read the caption below it. Now I realize that their necks are broken. Hanging like that...they look like broken dolls, or something out of a nightmare. I understand that dogmeat is part of their culture, but there is definately a more humane way to raise dogs for meat.

I agree; it's natural for them to eat cats and dogs. Like it's normal for us to eat cows and pigs. But there is, like Callowyn said, better ways of putting the animals to rest. Part of the reason I react so strongly to this is the torture; ''It is estimated that up to 10 million dogs are slaughtered every year in China, many deliberately slowly and cruelly in the belief that "torture equals taste", whilst all suffer the stress and pain of being farmed in concentrated numbers before being killed in a variety of ways which rarely ensures a quick and humane death.'' I don't like to see them killed at all, of course, but.. Not all Asians agree on this of course; I have two chineese friends, and their opinions differ greatly. There's a campaign going on too, which tries to make people stop to eating cats and dogs. It would be cool if it worked, but I want the torture part to stop at least.

I don't understand how torture can make it taste better...it'd just make me feel sick to my stomach. I mean, I read an article on deer hunting, and they have to kill the deer in one shot, otherwise the adrenaline gets running in the deer's blood system, and the meat is too tough to enjoy properly. Wouldn't the same thing happen to dogs?

When we went to adopt Jynx from the Plains SPCA 5 years ago, I saw a bulletin board with "Animal Cruelty" in big letters up at the top... I saw real photographs of a cat who was alive with an arrow jutting out of its side, a dog that was hanged for fun, a cat sacrificed in some kind of Satanic ritual, a cat whose head was burned off just for fun... I've never been the same.
