It was terrible. Horrendous. Awful. Kyllae was wagiong war with her most tried enemy. Boredom. That wicked fiend. Grey and dulling, Stroking and prodding with his elongated fingers, kicking up dust with his muffled laughter. Kyllae hated him. She had to find something to do, and fast! Unfortunately, she was out of alcohol, and she had no one to hang out with at the moment. Shards. She would just have to find someone to recruit to her cause!

The dormitories were mostly empty. Who wanted to hang around in such crowded, hot, stuffy rooms? Not Kyllae, that was for certain. The rooms were drab and oppressive. No place to party. No place to have fun. And, therefore, held absolutely nothing Kyllae could enjoy. Except for her own room, of course, which was lavishly decorated with all of her pretty things. That, and the fact that she got a bed, and other people got the floor. Well, she deserved it, didn't she? She was more amazing, more deserving than the rest. She had made sure of it.

She strutted through the hallways, head held high, eyes appraising, sliding from figure to figure, appraising whom she might be able to 'recruit'. She was always recruiting, it seemed. Where was her crew anyway? Doing chores, no doubt. Covering for her. What a good lot. She would have to throw them a party later.

But by golly, where was a solitary girl when Kyllae needed her? Everyone it seemed was in a group. Experience proved that lone victems were the easiest. Well, she just had to be patient then, didn't she? She turned a corner, searching for a face she felt she could make her own. Perhaps someone who looked in need of cheering up? Kyllae was...quite good at that.

Sonya eyes washed over the empty room. Now she would have to leave. Sure, it was pretty crowded around here now, but seeing the place empty was now plain scary. Was she really that late up...or spent that long getting dressed. Not that she cared so much for food, but by now that was gone too. Oh what a day this was going to be. Straight to chores? There had to be something else she could do, at least without causing trouble for the others. Lessons didn't tend to be until later on when the candidates were more awake. Wasn't like she was early enough to get anything she wanted done, or late enough to miss anything with a negative impact. She dragged the brush through her thick dark hair and tied it up neatly with a bit of scarp ribbon.

Looked like it was chores for today. Time to confess to the candidatemaster she'd been slacking off. Silly old grump, always had a problem with her since she first came here. She gave one last look of despair across the room, hoping that someone, anyone, would be there to give her something to do other than this. No-one - no-one awake at least. The hatching had really taken out some candidates mentally and they were sleeping it off. If Sonya had enough patiance for that kinda thing, she proberly would of done the exact same thing.

The young candidate slipped out of the room, eyes on the floor. No point in pretending to be happy.

Just when Kyllae was beginning to get frustrated...score! She spotted her victim. Alone, bother, sulking. Perfect. Just the kind of person who would help her. Silently, lithely she slid along the hallway, a little extra bounce in her step, celebrating an early victory. It would be so easy, would it not? "Why hello there! she called out once she'd gotten closer. "I don't suppose you'd be willing to help me with something, would you?" she asked, sounding for all the world innocent and sweet. As if. Kyllae could be sweet, but innocent? That was a good one.

Kyllae was hardly bothered about not impressing. So what? She still had a few years before she was too old to stand. And her dragon would be a special one. Her partner simply hadn't been in this clutch. Simple as that. She would have fun partying until her dragon came; and then they could party together! How fun, to always have a friend to party with. And as a dragonrider, more people would flock to her. Bigger parties! Oh yes, this was good. But for now, she had a buddy to lure, to play, to manipulate. If When things went well, she'd have her things soon.

Sonya almost jumped out of her skin. She was certain that there was no-one about before....no-one had left the room just before or even (as unlikely as it could be) after her. Her eyes darted around the passage way looking for the one that had greeted her so cheerfully. Oh this was a strange situation, who could be so cheerful anyway...all those who just impressed were in lesson or caring for their new hatchlings, and well if you didn't impress and you were still about, what reason possible could there be for being so cheery? All there was at the weyr was work, work and sometimes a little education. Nothing exciting except occansionally the new person like herself.

That was the moment she saw her. Another candidate of course, but a happier, older and perkier one than herself. Not only that, she was taller and in some ways more beautiful. Oh great, another person that mere presense was going to make her feel less of a person. No-matter what Sonya thought, her caring nature pulled through, and chimed through in a half hearted melody "Yes if I may, what did you have in mind?"

Kyllae was more and more convinced that she'd found the right person for the job. Never one to be down, or shy, Kyllae clapped the girl firmly on the back, before resting one hand on her shoulder. Putting on her mildly sad face, she sighed. "Oh, I have a problem. You see, so busy working was I, that I compeletey missed breakfast! I'm so hungry, my poor stomach is practically eating itsef! Would you be willing to help me procure a morsel or two? I sure would appreciate it. She blinked a few times, looking completely forlorn.

It wasn't a complete lie. She had missed most of breakfast. Though not doing chores, her 'working' had been taking a bath. And she'd only gotten a serving before the kitchen stopped putting out the food. So she decided she'd just have to go and get some more. Unfortunately, when she'd stopped by, her friend she'd intended to ask for some was absent. Taking lessons, appearantly. Shells. She'd had to find someone else. And that was what brought her here.

"And I wanted to take some of the food to my cousin and her dragon, but I can't do that, because I obviously don't have food," she informed. Candidates were usually eager to be around dragons, to see them. Maybe she could lure the girl along a little that way. "Her poor dragon's not well, so my cousin doesn't leave her alone often. So I take it upon myself to try and bring her food when I can."

Again Sonya was a little shocked at the older females outgoing social nature, but she let it pass quite easily. It was only cheering her up, and of course, it kept her away from the candidatemaster a little while longer. If she could just wait it out, it might be possible to pretend to have finished the 'imaginary' tasks he had set her. Sonya set into a walking motion beside the girl in the direction of the kitchens, while she listened to the request. There were even dragons involved!

Shards, breakfast really had passed already. Maybe it was just good fortune to meet someone else in the same position. Certainly on her own, she would of just waited until lunch or dinner, but then, there was work to be done and hard work on an empty stomach. What would it hurt to lend a hand, when it was only going to help herself in the process. Not like the kitchen staff could say much, many were just ordinary candidates like herself, and to top things off, it sounded like this new girl already had enough links in the weyr to keep them out of trouble. Sonya really didn't need much presuading.

"So there are dragons involved! Is it one from the new clutch or one of the older dragons?" She asked unable to keep back questions that now had apearred. "Oh...and if we get some food, I could properly do with some myself, I havn't been able to eat at all..."

Oh good. Like every other candidate it seemed, the girl had a healthy interest in dragons. Not one to deny curiousity, Kyllae would indulge her with just enough to entice her to come along. "Haanyath's a senior Weyrling. If you were there for that clutch...you might remember her. First to hatch. The only hatchling in a while to injure someone at a hatching. Quite interesting to look at." Kyllae let go of her shoulder, promptly prancing down the hallway in the direction of the store rooms, heading straight for the stairs that would take them there not necessarily the quickest, but would keep them mostly out of sight, and questioning people. Trouble was only trouble if you got caught. Kyllae didn't plan on getting found out. And Sonya was gonna help her.

Realizing she hadn't told the girl her name, Kyllae mentally slapped herself. Where were her manners? "I'm Kyllae, by the way," she called over her shoulder. "And if you come with me, I can get you some food as well."
