Padma was out shopping, having been sent by her mother to acquire a few things. She had just picked up the last of the things on her list, a new pack of incense for their altar, and was now just sitting outside one of the little cafes. She couldn't decide if she actually wanted to go in to get a soda, or if she was just content to stay here, sitting on the bench.

She had a lot of things on her mind currently; all of them relating to the game. Do I even have any powers? she wondered. She certainly didn't seem to.

"Of course you do," Lakshmi responded. "I was simply waiting for you to acclimate to the game."

"Well, I'm acclimated now," Padma muttered. "When can I have them?"

"We'll start with one, and progress from there. I'll teach you tonight. Acquire some small metal disks, they'll work for you to practice on."

"Alright." That was better than nothing, and the sooner she acquired what she needed, the sooner she could learn what her goddess wanted to teach her. She thought for a moment, and then stood up, moving off back towards the shops. There had to be a hardware store down here, right?

In Writ's experience, different gods had different styles. Coyote was subtle, his godling only had a set of gold eyes and a pair of weird ears. Other godlings though, they were running around with wings and horns and tails. Those gods must've been a sadistic bunch. You might as well paint a target on their backs.

Just like the newbie that passed him by. Writ scratched his head, four arms? Really? And the Blacksuits haven't caught her? Either the suits in Uppers were sleeping or she has been really good at hiding.

"You know, out of all the things I've seen, extra arms is a first." Writ's voice came from behind Padma. He took a few steps and caught up with her.

"Hi."

"Hi," Padma responded, slightly startled. She hadn't been expecting to run into anyone, though in retrospect she probably should have. Her arms did tend to stand out, and even the mundanes commented on them on occasion. "Really? What do you usually see?"

She was honestly curious about that, and it was a safe enough question. She grinned, and then teasingly added. "I've always thought that they were a popular accessory."

"Horns, tails, leaves. The usual fare." Writ shrugged and looked at her with his golden pupils. Obviously he was in the game, you just had to look a little closer than most.

"I mean, what do you do when you buy clothes? Sow on new sleeves?" He asked curiously, "It's not like you can hide another set of arms under a hat or something."

This would be a much stranger conversation if she didn't think that the other man was another player, but since she was pretty sure he was, it wasn't particularly phasing her. You didn't see very many people with gold eyes, and funny ears running around. Of course, the eyes could be contacts, but she didn't think they were. Plus, it wasn't like she hadn't ever been questioned about it before anyways.

"My mother and aunt tend to make most of my clothes," she replied. "It's just easier that way. I help them out with it, but mother doesn't think I do a good enough job on my own. Not for," She stopped before saying anything else. Did she really want to tell this stranger that her family thought she was the reincarnation of a god? "Well, not enough to be seen in public in anyway." There, that was a good substitution.

"So, did you need something? Or were you just that curious about my arms?"

It was obvious she was prepared to answer that question. She must get it a lot. It made Writ even more surprised to how long she lasted without Blacksuit interference. Four arms wasn't normal around here, but after the monster attacks and the spirits wandering the streets and the secret government conspiracies, "Normal" was a very loose term for a city like this one.

"Just bored, thought I'd start some conversation." Writ said.

It was a good substitute for, "There's people out there killing off people like us, and I just wanted to see if you were okay."

Padma shrugged. "Mkay. So, are you an anonymous stranger? Or are you planning on introducing yourself at some point?" She grinned. She liked him, though she had no intentions of trusting him; not yet. Or maybe not at all.

Well, if he was planning on having a conversation with her, she should probably figure out something for them to talk about. Was it a good moment to ask him about the game. He might know who she should probably avoid; if not, maybe he would at least have some interesting tidbits of information. "How long have you been playing?"
PostPosted: Sun May 03, 2009 6:07 pm

And of course, the questions. Kids learn what they can do with information, and they're all trying to pick at their older counterparts. Unfortunately for her, Writ had too much experience with unwittingly skipping questions and somehow coming out with a piece of his own. When he was young he was being stupid, but after two years of dealing with other playesr, he had acting stupid and gathering information down to an art.

"This body doesn't lie, does it?" He presented himself, "Name's Writ."

"Padma," she responded. "You must know all kinds of things then, since you've been playing so long." She shrugged. It didn't really matter, he had obviously been playing longer than her, and it wasn't like she was trying to get information out of him. She really just wanted to know who she really should be trying to stay away from, at least until she became a little bit stronger. "Think you can give me a heads up on who I need to avoid?"

That had been what she had tried to get out of Seth, and she hoped that Writ would be slightly more helpful than the other male had been. Everything else she could mostly figure out on her own.

Writ supposed he could part with that information. It's not like he's been telling every newbie about them.

"Guys in suits. Big, tall guys in suits." Writ said simply, "Most of us call them 'Blacksuits' but I've been calling them 'Blackies' lately." He stopped at a newspaper stand and picked up one of the papers. One of the stories was on a certain government building that had it's windows smashed.

"See, they work here." Writ poked the front page picture, "At least, I think so."

She blinked. That wasn't what she had been expecting, but he looked and sounded as though he knew what he was talking about. "Really?" she responded, glancing down at the picture. "So, these Blacksuits are dangerous? "

This was definitely interesting, she wouldn't have thought that people outside of the game would have been the most dangerous, but now that she was thinking about it, it made since. "They're probably wanting to know what makes us tick," she commented quietly, thinking out loud. "So they can figure out how to either replicate it or kill us."

"Well, it's either one or the other, isn't it? There wouldn't be any use in killing us out in the open if they want to replicate us." Every single godling he talked with had their own theory on the Blacksuits. Padma's theory was one that came straight out of the comic books. Writ didn't think that the suits wouldn't do something as grand as that. At least, not yet.

"They've been getting pretty close to the game, already offed a couple of people."

This was far more dangerous than she had first though, but then again, now that she was thinking about it, it wasn't really that surprising. They, being the players, were trying to win the world after all, so it kind of made sense in a really surreal sort of way.

She shrugged and responded uncommitedly, "Hmm." There wasn't really a whole lot that she could say to that, and she wasn't even sure if it would be proper to offer her condolences. Had he known any of the ones that they had killed? "I wonder how much they know?" She was thinking out loud again, her curiosity getting the better of her for a moment. It was an intriguing thought, the blacksuits had to know something, or else it wouldn't be as much of a problem. Right?

She glanced around the street, looking to see if they had reached a hardware store yet. Nope. No sign of one.
