(( This is an RP between Tefla's Echo's Song and FAV's Arianna ))

Grass. Such a very tasty little morsel. Echo's Song munched contentedly on the little green shoots that grew everywhere. The mare thought long about what this day might bring. The weather seemed to be cooperating with her mood and the sun shone bright but not too warm. Her tail flicked idly back and forth as she grazed. Her ears swiveled catching the sounds of the day and she interpreted them as she saw fit.

It would be nice to have company to share this gorgeous day with. However, for now, she was more than content to fill the hunger pangs in her body with vegetation.

She felt the wind beneath her wings, and the cool spring air rushing through her mane and tail as she soared through the air above a field. A little ways ahead she spotted a dark figure in the grass. It was another Soquilli. Arianna brought her wings in and started into a dive, speeding towards the ground, but opening her massive wings at last minute, to come to a graceful landing not far from where she saw the other Soquilli. She noticed that it was a beautiful dark mare and she approached somewhat apprehensively, hoping not to startle her.

"Hello, there." she called, her gentle voice, carrying on the breeze. "My name is Arianna. I saw you from the sky. I must say, your coat is magnificent."

A small orange and black rabbit jumped down from Arianna's back. He had been asleep in her mane through the flight. He flopped down onto the ground beside Arianna and let out a huge sigh.

"I'll never get used to that," he said, exasperated. "I hate the diving part. Could you take a little easier next time?"

Arianna chuckled at her little familiar. They hadn't known each other long, but were already good friends.

"Sorry, Wesley. I'll try to warn you next time." she smiled down at him, and then turned her attention back to the mare.

Echo had actually been aware of the other Soquili but she never expected to see one with wings before. Slightly intrigued by this newcomer it was a shock when the little animal jumped down from the mare's, no Arianna's, back. It was at this time that Echo remembered that she had been spoken to. Clearing her throat she spoke softly.

"Thank you for the compliment on my appearance. I must say though that you seem more splendid than I. It is a pleasure to meet you Arianna. My name is Echo's Song. If it makes it easier though you can just call me Echo. I'm was just enjoying a round of grazing. If you are hungry you may help yourself."

Looking down at the rabbit, er Wesley, Echo stared briefly before executing a rather unusual bow to the creature before returning her gaze to Arianna. How exactly could those wings lift someone in flight? She was still interested in knowing ... but not too keen to ask. Ducking her neck the mare ripped a few more shoots of grass from the ground and chewed thoughtfully.

Arianna gave a slight bow to the other mare and smiled. "Thank you for your kind compliment and the pleasure is mine, that I have met you. Your name reflects your spirit; both are beautiful and serene." She lowered her head to take a few sprigs of the delicious looking grass, chewing and swallowing slowly. She held her wings to her sides and glanced over at Echo. "Pardon me if I am intrusive, but I was wondering if you might belong to a herd? I myself have shared only the company of little Wesley here, and we have only just met a few days ago."

At his name, the little rabbit perked up his ears, and looked over at his friend. "And what an interesting few days it's been..." he said chuckling. He watched the two Soquili eating in silence, and thought quietly to himself. This was the first Soquili he had ever really encountered, and she had saved his life. He had been running from a skinwalker who was trying to kill him, when out of nowhere, Arianna had swooped down and snatched him off the ground. At first Wesley thought another predator had gotten him, but he soon realized that she meant him no harm. He immediately thanked her for saving his life, and promised to repay her for gracious generosity.

A herd? Her?

Echo just couldn't see that happening. At least not yet. The idea was one that the mare had thought of only briefly so far. Finding a herd to belong to would eventually come ... perhaps. That being said it would only work if she overcame the side of her that craved being alone. One or two friends would be fine but Echo was a private Soquili. One that would prefer to stick to the outside then belong to the inner workings of a large group. An expression stole over her face as she ducked her head from Arianna's line of sight.

"I do not think of that question as being obtrusive. But to give you an answer ... I do not belong to any herd. Mostly I think that is because I tend to keep to myself. I am also fairly new to these lands. I am alone in a sense."

Echo let the silence fall around her as she spoke the last six words very quietly. Being alone was her wish ... but the price to pay was very high.

Arianna noticed that she had hidden her face when she gave her response. She knew what the feeling of being alone was. She had been alone all her life. She stepped closer to Echo. "I too am alone. I've been searching for someone. A friend, companion, I'm not sure. But I don't want to be alone anymore. Excuse me if I sound too forward, but perhaps we could keep each other company, and end this loneliness for the both of us."

Wesley's heart sank. "And what am I? Chopped liver?" he asked coldly. "I thought I was your friend Arianna." He turned his back to her and sulked, re-thinking his decision to accompany the golden mare after she saved him.

Arianna winced a little at the rabbit's words. She quickly turned to him. "I appologize little one. I did not intend on hurting your feelings by my words. I simply meant that I had no Soquili companions, and was asking if Echo would want to be friends." She smiled at him, hoping he understood her. She stepped forward and nuzzled him from behind. "Please forgive me for not explaining better."

Wesley heard her and sighed. He should have known that was what she meant. He felt her nuzzle, and turned and hugged her nose with his paws. "Oh alright. I forgive you, and uh... sorry for the misunderstanding." he grinned at her sheepishly, and then looked around her towards Echo. "We would both like to be friends with you." he nodded toward her and smiled.

Arianna lifted her head again, and returned her attention to Echo, with a warm smile.

Echo listened to Arianna's words and found the thought of someone to call company a pleasing idea. As she watched the interaction between Arianna and Wesley she ducked her head and nibbled at a few more pieces of grass before swallowing as it seemed the conversation between the pair was ending. Swishing her tail idly she listened attentively as Wesley expressed the same wishes and Echo smiled at both of them.

"Thank you I guess." Echo winced at her choice of words. "I mean-" The mare broke off of her current train of thought with a soured expression. Great. I can't even tell them how grateful I am.

Clearing her mind seemed to work and she spoke a little more softly - not wanting to seem like a fool. "I believe it would be a wise idea to stick together. I won't be lonely and neither will you. Although you two have each other already. So I guess that is settled."

Echo paused before looking around at the scenery. "If you are hungry you are more than welcome to help yourself to some vegetation."

Delighted, Arianna smiled at Echo, and not wanting to seem rude, ducked her head to pick a few blades of grass and chewed quietly. After a couple mouthfuls, she spoke again.

"I understand that you do not belong to a herd, but might you have any family? I myself do not as well. I'm not even sure if my parents are alive. All I remember of my life is being alone, but I know I had to have come from somewhere." She chuckled lightly at herself, and raised her head to look towards Echo, and noticed the sky behind her. There were dark clouds on the horizon, and a breeze had begun to blow. It looked like a storm might be brewing.

Content with the idea of a small herd of their own, Wesley decided to explore the area a little. He spotted a tree with a hole in it near the edge of the field. "I'll be right back!" he called over his shoulder. He hopped towards the tree and sniffed. He didn't recognize any scent from another creature present, so he advanced. The hole was near the bottom of the trunk and he peeked his head inside. It was completely dark, but he could smell food. Berries and nuts to be precise. He pulled his head back out and looked around, seeing that the coast was clear, he grabbed a pawful of the food, and stuffed it into his mouth, and ate happily.

Echo pondered Arianna's question as she looked up and studied the clouds. They had darkened in the distance and even though it'd probably spoil the day's warmth Echo felt a thrill at the prospect of a coming storm. She loved to just stand and watch the displays of lightning dance across the heavens. It was a favorite past-time for her.

"If I have family Arianna they have never sought me out. I too only remember being alone. But that's depressing talk. I've noticed that the clouds over yonder are brewing what looks to be a fine storm. Are you game to stay and watch?"

Echo flicked her tail as the breeze picked up in intensity and she laughed gleefully. She pranced forward and then turned to look at Arianna. This childish display probably would surprise her friend but Echo couldn't contain her glee.

"I agree. Let's enjoy the storm." She smiled at her new friend, and followed after her. She hadn't let herself enjoy a good storm in a long while.

She inhaled the scent of the coming rain, and lavished it's different flavors. She could smell the water from distant bodies of water, as well as those that were near. She didn't particularly like getting wet during a storm, but told herself it wouldn't be too bad. She could probably use a good rinse to wash away the dust from the previous days travel.

Arianna watched Echo displaying foallike motions, but admired her for her ability to be carefree. She wanted to be like that as well, but had always taught herself to be strong and sophisticated. Why wouldn't she just let lose? What was her problem? She shook her head, ridding herself of the unpleasant thoughts, and went over to join Echo.

"The storm looks like it will be a thrilling display this evening." she commented, staring off towards the dark clouds. An occasional flash of lightning darted through the sky, connecting the clouds to the ground with a bright jagged line of white-hot electricity.

Thunder sounded and startled the little rabbit. He dropped the food he still had in his hands, and darted over to Arianna.
"W-w-what was that?!" he stuttered, hiding between her two front legs. "That was scary!"

Arianna chuckled at him and leaned down to nuzzle his head with her nose. "It's okay. It's only thunder. It comes after the lightning. There's nothing to be afraid of." She smiled at him and stood back up. "Do you like the lightning Echo?"

Echo merely pranced a little further out onto the open plain as another flash of lightning illuminated the area. Her coat seemed to sparkle as the energy began to build into a crashing crescendo of thunder and the mare stopped to peer back at Arianna and Wesley.

"I love all the parts that make up a storm Arianna. Lightning, thunder and the rain. Although one does have to be careful in such situations."

Echo turned her gaze back to the sky before it was illuminated once again. The lightning streaked across the heavens before arcing down towards the ground. Being out in the open would take being foolhardy to another level if the storm continued to rage on as it did. Feeling the answering crash of thunder reverberate through the ground Echo smartly turned around and trotted back to where she deemed it safe to watch.

Her gaze went back to the beautiful display, and her thoughts were far away. "Careful especially when flying. Though I try to stay on the ground when the skies are unfriendly."

She looked down to Wesley between her legs. "Perhaps we should find you some shelter for now? I think I would like to enjoy a good shower."

Wesley shivered from the wind that had picked up. "Yes, I believe that would be a good idea." he said through chattering teeth. "You know how I hate to get wet."

He looked around and noticed a hole in a tree nearby. "I'll just go hide...err...watch the storm from that tree over there." he said, as he hopped away quickly, waving to the two mares as he went.

Arianna smiled at the retreating rabbit, and turned her gaze back to Echo and the eminent storm. The wind picked up, whipping her golden hair behind her.
The first drops of cold rain splattered across her nose. She lifted her head to the increasing tempo of the falling water.

The drizzle increased to a down pour, drenching those who might be caught out in it's liquid splendor in just a few seconds.

A burst of laughter escaped her, "This feels amazing!" she called to her new friend. "Would you like to go for a run with me? We'll come right back here. I don't want to leave Wesley alone for too long."

(( switching RP colors just as a heads up ))

Echo watched as the rabbit hopped away from her and Arianna before the mare turned her gaze to the skies and the storm that erupted above them. Arianna's suggestion of a run seemed safe enough and she nodded. The storm would keep most others under cover for the afternoon unless they sought the "excitement" of nature and what she had to provide.

"A run in this weather sounds like a fine idea. We just need to be extra careful."

With those words Echo started a slow trot as she waited for Arianna to join her.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 30, 2010 7:18 am

"Careful? Just throw caution to the wind and embrace the ferocity of the storm." she said, throwing her head back, letting the rain soak through her curls, plastering her hair to her head. She caught up to the other mare and tried to keep pace with her.

She held her wings tight to her body so that any wind wouldn't catch them and interfere with her movement. As they sped up, the rain stung her face like a thousand tiny needle pricks. The wind moving over her body felt as if she had been swimming in ice.

Lightning flashed all around them as they ran across the plain. In the back of her mind, she was a bit worried about the lightning and knew Echo was right about being careful, but how could one be careful and carefree at the same time? She would just have to chance not getting hit by the lightning and enjoy her run with the other mare.

"This is so exhilirating!" she called, hoping that Echo might hear her over the storm's roar.

Echo barely heard Arianna's exclamation over a rumble of thunder but it was just loud enough to catch what was being said. The rain felt nice on Echo's pelt as she ate up the distance on the flat plains. There was just something so primal about letting loose and enjoying the elements that nature brought forth sometimes.

However even as she cantered along ... Echo's gaze constantly flickered to the horizon. There was no telling were lightning might strike. But it was getting harder just to keep up the level of concentration. Tossing her mane in a carefree manner the mare stopped abruptly. Her breathing was labored as she paused to catch her breath.

Echo waited for Arianna to catch up before smiling mischievously. "Have you had enough yet? Or do you think you could go on for more?"
