"Quickly, Lee, we don't want to waste time." Lee stumbled out the family car and into the quiet street, following her mother's advice to pick up the pace. It was too early to be running around college hunting, and it seemed a bit pointless to the girl. This was their second college visit of the day, but their fourteenth visit total. No school was about to accept a student with a 2.3 grade point average; at least not the schools Mr. and Mrs. Katan chose.
Lee was able to catch up with her parents, and as the group headed closer to the building Lee's stomach began to knot. The stone exterior was impressive; it was old, but well taken care of. Lee rarely saw such dated buildings, and when she did they were usually a sore sight. There were very few people in the courtyard, further backing Lee's claim that it was, in fact, too early. The three headed through the massive doors and into a grand lobby, which was equally as impressive as what they'd seen outside, and Lee found there were even fewer people in the lobby. She counted two total, excluding Lee and her parents, and they both sat behind a desk in the middle of the room.
Lee's mother hurried over to the women, placing her hands on the desk to catch their attention. "We're here for a tour."
A smile met Mrs. Katans words, and one of the women held up her index finger. "One moment, please." The two went back to their work, scribbling illegible words onto a stack of forms, and Lee decided the wait probably wasn't worth it. Her mother and father took a seat in a comfortable set up the college had prepared for just such an occasion and Lee decided to venture off. This could take a while.
She discovered a library in the next room, and while it was just as enormous as everything else, the appeal was beginning to wear away. She found a secluded spot with a few plush chairs to wait in, falling into one and pulling her book bag into her lap. She opened it, and sifted through the contents. A few pamphlets from the previous college, a tube of mascara, and, most importantly, her spark. She found it comforting to have it near her at all times, afraid it might grow into the proto stage Miss Longway had mentioned while she was away. She waved at it, somehow not feeling the slightest bit silly, and closed her bag once more. She rested her head back and closed her eyes. Time for a nap.

Willis watched the young girl enter the library, glance around, and promptly flop into a rather large chair. He gave a small chuckle to himself. He knew what was going on here, he'd seen it often enough in his life. Her parents were dragging her around to look at every college available. There was a chance that one of them had even attended this college exactly.
Regardless, she was either completely uninterested or far too stressed out by her parents insistent push that she attend only the best and most expensive.
He quietly came up from behind the girl, contemplating on weather or not he really should bother her. The least he could do was speak with her a little, get a feel for her interests. While he was proud of the college he worked at, it broke his heart more than anything to see young people who spent all their time and ambition towards something they didn't really want. Perhaps he could make a few good suggestions on colleges that would be more to her interest.
"Hello." He kept his voice down - they were in a library after all.

The man's whisper made her jump a bit, and she sat up in a hurry and turned her body to face him. Lee heart raced a bit, but only because of the sudden sound. He looked friendly, and for once she wasn't intimidated while talking to a stranger. "Are you here to-" She realized her voice was a bit loud for where they were, and she lowered it to a whisper, her shoulders shrugging as if she was telling him a secret. "Are you here to give us the tour?" Her tired eyes lit up; maybe the wait wouldn't be as long as she'd thought.
A thought crossed her mind, and she frowned with concern. "Oh, sorry for trying to sleep here, I was just... well, you know, I..." she didn't have an excuse, and she started tugging on the ends of her hair out of habit, inching to the edge of the seat as she prepared to be kicked out of the library completely.

Willis took a seat in the chair next to the young girls, making a motion to let her know that she should and could stay seated if she wished. "No, I'm afraid not. Forgive me if I seem intrusive but it's a habit to greet the young minds entering our college. Permanently or no." He gave as warm a smile as he could. No one was in trouble, he wasn't trying to pry into her life, and he certainly wasn't trying to make her feel uncomfortable.
With a glance around the large library he leaned back in his chair. "If I may ask what subjects are you interested in? This school is well suited to aid you in any goal you may have but some more than others. Literature the arts, and science tends to be the boast of Schellden University."

What a strange question. What did she want to do? Lee sat back in her seat and pondered the question for a bit. She was surprised to discover she'd never actually been asked that question before. No one really expected anything of her, either because she really didn't have to do anything with an inheritance her size or because she probably couldn't do anything if she tried. The plan was to graduate from high school, go to college, and then... what after that? She was just going along for the ride, and she'd never heard any plans that went farther along than education. She shrugged her shoulders. "I guess I'm okay at History." What you're good at and what you want to do are two different things, but Lee ignored that. She was just happy someone was asking for her opinion, and she looked down at her laced hands, smiling slightly at the question.
Wait...? "Th-the arts?" Lee asked again. Perhaps she misunderstood, or perhaps she heard him wrong. You can go to college for art?

Did he see a small hint of interest? He wasn't sure, but Willis found a smile spreading across his face none-the-less. "Yes, the arts. For example, I mentioned literature earlier. You could study anything from historical literature," he made sure to mention this to include the girl's interest she'd mentioned only a moment ago. "To learning and working on writing your own things, be they a newspaper collum to a book."
Willis shifted, crossing one leg over his knee and placing his hands on his ankle. He spoke with a smile and a warm tone to his voice, his habit as a teacher taking over as he continued to explain things to the girl. "Writing isn't the only thing, though. We have an excellent arts department. Classes for sculpting, for photography and painting. We even have classes that would help you learn to act if that was the path you wanted to take."
With a smile he spread his hands in a way that meant he was indicating the entire school, not just the library. "My girl, there are infinite possibilities. There is an old saying - 'If you love your job you won't work a day in your life.' It's been true for me for thirteen years. Find not just what you think you should do with your life... but what you want to do. This school isn't the only choice, if it's not suited for what you are most interested then you should by all means seek another."
He hoped dearly he had helped to kindle some kind of interest, some sort of thirst for knowledge within the child.

Lee sat forward in her seat as the man went on about what she never imagined in her wildest dreams. I can go to school for art?! None of the other schools they'd visited had bothered to mention anything about art. Business, Law, Medicine, sure, but not anything she was interested in. Pure wonder and joy shown on her face; for the first time she was actually excited about the possibility of going to college. "So..." she spoke slowly and looked him directly in the eyes, emphasizing the importance of her question. "This school can make me a better artist?"
Almost at once, her face dropped into a frown and her excitement came crashing down. Oh... that. Her grade point average. She'd memorized it, and it seemed to rear its ugly head every time she became interested in her future. There was no way she could get into this school with her grades. Lee slumped back in her seat and let her head hang low; clearly distraught, she looked up at the man. "D-do you think I could ever get into a school like this with a 2.3 GPA?" She was prepared for the worst.

Ah, yes. There was the light of interest he so loved to see as both a teacher and a scholar. Too quickly it was doused.
"Yes, it can help you in exploring your artistic talent. I'm afraid..." He gave a small, sympathetic frown, reaching out to lightly pat the girl's knee. "You would need a 3.7 at the very least. Perhaps a little lower if you had most excellent recommendations and a scholarship or two."
He brought his hand away, least he make her uncomfortable. "But how old are you? There's still time to work hard, I'm sure. And if not... there are other schools. I'm not sure any are so well off in the art department but it is still something, hm?"
Slyly he set the bait, giving it just the smallest of wiggles. To inspire and teach and help the young grow into something great... it was more than just his job. It was his calling, his life! Only two other things were more important, his late wife and his daughter.
"What's your name?"

Lee frowned again. So, she was right. "It's my last year." A 3.7? That was impossible at this point. With two semesters to go, even strait A's wouldn't guarantee enrollment here. Perhaps her mother could bribe a few recommendations from her teachers? While she was disappointed, the man's efforts to comfort her worked considerably well. There were still options, she supposed.
"I don't think my parents would want me going to a school that would expect anything less, though," Lee shrugged. It wasn't as if they'd allow her to study art anyway, though. She thought it might be best to keep this information to herself for a bit.
She stated her name clearly, "Lee Katan." Lee silently hoped he'd call her "Miss Lee", but doubted very much that he would. She didn't have it in her to ask it of him; he'd been too helpful already to bother him about it.

Was that a bit of a nibble? He decided he'd take the chance and give the line a tug.
"May I call you Lee?" He rather disliked calling students by their last names. It was always so cold and impersonal. "My students call me Willis, Professor, Professor Damont... whichever you would feel more comfortable calling me."
He shifted again, leaning forward. He looked down the bridge of his nose at the girl, looking her over for a moment. "I would have no problem giving you a recommendation most high." If she realized or already knew what that meant he wasn't sure. "I've worked all thirteen of those years I mentioned at this school. It's also my alma mater." He hoped this information might give her an inkling of what a recommendation from him could do for her. It wouldn't cause miracles but it'd help.
He sat back, crossing his arms over his chest. "However... for me to do that I'd like to see how high you can raise your GPA. It also wouldn't hurt for you to see what scholarships you might be able to get... of course. The higher your grade point average the better you can receive..."

Just Lee. Yeah, that's... fine. Lee gave a slight, uncomfortable smile and nodded. She decided she might as well be just as casual, though it almost hurt to be so informal with someone - an adult at that - she hardly knew; after all, cold and impersonal was the Katan way. "Willis, then." Her smile brightened, becoming much more genuine than before.
"Wha--?" a small whisper escaped, and disbelief clouded the girl's thoughts. "Did my mother..." her thoughts trailed off. He couldn't have spoken to her parents yet, they'd only just arrived. If he wasn't bribed, then why would he care? Lee's eyes went wide. An angel.
"I-I can do that!" Lee jumped up with little concern for where she was anymore, hugging the book bag with the little spark inside. Things were actually going really well for her. She couldn't help but think getting the tutor spark was fate. She nodded excitedly, her short hair bouncing up and down. "I know I can get it higher. I promise you, I'll be making strait A's this year." Her promise probably would have stuck a bit more had she been able to explain her reasoning, but she doubted EBI would be happy to know she was flaunting her essentic around. Not to mention, schools like this didn't value criminals or their illegal goods on campus.
