March 109

Emi looked arounf the fort. "So this is where we're gonna live from now on, FlameFrost," she said out loud for no reason. She started to walk around, looking for her Patron. What they say her name was? Abigail what? Emi asked the young wolf walking next to her.

It was Abigail Baker. FlameFrost replied. Do you ever listen? he asked as her explored his surrounding area with his eyes.

Nope, only when I want to. Emi smiled happily.

Abigail stretched her arms up and yawned, her long blonde hair in disarray and her body currently void of any and all clothing. Her barrack was empty anyway, so what did it matter if she slept in the nude? She shifted her position in her bed to upright, the warm fur blanket providing a blockade between her skin and what should have been the cold morning air. The air was anything but cold and after a dumb moment passed -Abigail rubbing her eyes and wiping an unfamiliar sweat from her forehead- the information clicked.

She looked lazily toward the window. It was afternoon. The light shining through the holes and thin sections in the makeshift leather curtain was evident of that much. The item had a history. It was actually her baby blanket, an item that even in the days Abby wanted to forget she had an infancy (the day she learned she was breastfed inparticular), she wasn't able to part with. Somewhere within her mind, while thinking nostalgically of her youth, an alarming thought came to her. She had forgotten something. Was thar sumthin' I was s'posed to do? She asked HailWing pointedly.

HailWing, who had been lazing about in the den for lack of another task, answered hautily, Yes. Yes there is. And we might be be doing that had you not chosen to stay up all night with your 'water flask'. The female wolf tiptoed around the subject, hoping against the undoubtable fact that Abigail had been irresponsible with her memory again. She had been drinking. Memory was a fickle thing when one was drunk. HailWing recalled with bitter humor how when the messenger came to inform her of her new apprentice, Abigail had thrown herself at the plain human male.

It was lucky that HailWing had no better task the night before. Otherwise, she might not have been there to deter him with what Abby affectionately referred to as her back-the-hell-off growl. It was amazing her rider wasn't currently hung over. Maybe it was a result of how unhealthily frequent the binges were. In any case, the message was delivered. Abigail had a meeting with an apprentice that she was currently -HailWing eyed the shadow coming from a hole in the wall of her den- ten minutes late to.

As soon as she heard HailWing's familiar voice, she hurriedly put on her uniform, went into the bathroom to "gussy up", and ran to the door with various parts of her clothing in disarray. She stopped in her tracks and looked desperately toward the wolf she'd bonded to five years ago. So... Whut was-

You're supposed to meat an apprentice in the training field... fifteen minutes ago, HailWing interrupted.

"Fer tha love of all things- Let's go!" Abigail, ran out the door, not needing any further motivation. In a matter of two minutes, she was on the training field looking for a face she'd never seen and a name that she couldn't remember for the life of her. Again, Abby looked to HailWing for assistance.

Said wolf sighed and regurgitated the information the messanger had, to HailWing's surprise, managed to choke out between his gasp of disbelief at Abigail's flirtation and subsequent running away in terror when HailWing urged him in the opposite direction. Emi cross. Dark hair, average height, blue eyes. Bonded to a pup from the litter of New Eve's former beta. HailWing turned her head to give Abigail an irritated look and her eyes widened. You missed a button.

Abigail looked down. "Gad Dangit!" She picked up a rock and threw it at the nearest target. It landed in the grass a good three feet away from its intended destination. Luckily enough, Abigail hadn't noticed, currently attempting to fix her uncooperative uniform and looking up periodically to find anyone who fit Emi's description.

OoC: I will try to match but probably won't

Mitsuki stood a few feet away from a blond and in disaray female wolfrider. I'm pretty sure this is Abigail Baker. Emi said as she watched the woman fix her uniform. She and FlameFrost had been waiting a good fifteen minutes, maybe more, in the training field, for they're Patron. Hey FlameFrost, wasn't she supposed to be here fifteen minute ago?

Yes, yes she was suposed to, FlameFrost answered. His eyes traveled from Abigail to the wolf next to her. The wolf had light blue body fur and white chest and leg fur. She also had marks on her back thigh like FlameFrost. That's HailWing right? he asked the young teenager besides him.

Yep, has ta be. Fits the description. Emi tentively rasied her hand and waved at the pair. They were supposed to be their Patrons. "Um, hi," Emi said. "Are you two Abilgail Baker and HailWing?"

FlameFrost looked at HailWing. Not to be rude but you two are late. FlameFrost opened his jaws wide to yawn.

||It was just one of those rare moments where I found a lot to say. xP They usually aren't that long.||

Abigail looked up and turned her head to scan the area for the owner of the voice. Standing just a few feet away was most definately her new apprentice. She gave her uniform one final tug to be sure it was finally fixed and closed the short distance between herself and the young female. She was sure the girl must have left by now, so it was a great mood enhancer when Emi called their names.

"Oh! Howdy thar. Yup, that's me," She answered. "An' ah know pro-tee-call er whatnot says ya should call me Ma'am, but Ah'd prefer it if ya called me Abby." She smiled good naturedly toward Emi and the red tinted wolf. "Jus' easier for me that way." Abigail didn't mention anything about herself being late. If she was lucky, and she often times was, then maybe she could avoid the topic altogether.

HailWing hadn't expected much from the new duo and FlameFrost having mastered the human language already was definately surprising. What he chose to do with that knowledge, however, was flatout offensive. Saying 'Not to be rude' as if that would somehow nullify any rudeness that was to come after it and then criticizing a wolf that outranked him and then having the audacity to yawn.

HailWing had a lot to teach this pup before he grew up and she made it a point to start right away. First of all, she started with a firm, cross voice, I don't care who your parents are. Family is not an excuse to be disrespectful to a wolf that outranks you. A low rumble started in her throat, but would reserve punishment. She had to remind herself that she wasn't an Alpha or even a Beta. There would be concequences if a newly bonded wolf came up injured.

Second, unless a higher ranked wolf gives you permission, always stand at attention. Some wolves aren't as friendly as I am. That negligence of formalities might cost you a limb if you're not careful. The growling ended there. If the younger wolf obeyed, then there was still a chance he could be in her good graces. If not, well... the next several months would be very difficult for him.

Abigail looked at HailWing with an embarassed expression. "Centipede on a stick, he can't a done sumthin' already." She turned her gaze back to Emi and smiled apologetically. "You're... Uh... Emi Cross and..."

FlameFrost. HailWing said. Of course Abby wouldn't remember the pup's name. She didn't even remember she had an apprentice.

"FlameFrost! That's you guys, raight?"

"Yep that's us, Abby. Nice to meet you two," Emi said as she gave a big smile. She turned to HailWing. "I'm very sorry if FlameFrost did anything," Emi apoligized to the female wolf.

I'm very sorry, FlameFrost said to the superior wolf. I didn't mean to be rude and I'm not trying to use my parents to my advantage. FlameFrost straightend himself and bowed his head towards HailWing. I hope to learn a lot from you. He wasn't about to ruin his chance of becoming a great wolf by getting on HailWing's bad side.

Good FlameFrost, we don't want to be on our superior's bad side. Emi looked at HailWing. "Please don't take to much offense from him. He doesn't mean to be rude but he still is a pup and has a lot to learn. Just like me," she said good naturedly.

FlameFrost hung his head low. He raised his eyes to look at the older wolf. Sorry about the yawn. I'm just tired.

"O' Course HailWing don't take no offense!" Abigail was quick to reply. "Heck, we all done some plum stupid things before. Ain't that raight, Hail?" She nudged the female wolf lightly with her elbow. When she didn't receive an answer, she looked up and away and smiled awkwardly. Putting a finger to her mouth, she wondered what she would do to show Emi the ropes. They didn't exactly give her a lesson plan.

Although she hadn't oficially forgiven him yet, she was pleased with his quick apology. That was what a wolf did to their superior. A wolf kissed (or sniffed) some serious ass. Although pride was what made a wolf the majestic creature that it was, it was best for the wolf to forget his for now. Forget meaning that he would still have it, but keep it under wraps until the opprotune time. HailWing would never have a wolf lose his pride. The moment a wolf loses his pride, it stops being a wolf and starts being a dog.

Rather than saying anything, she nodded to the younger wolf and continued her inspection.

Had this been a cartoon of the old days, a lightbulp would have popped up over Abigail's head. But, this being reality, she smiled and slammed a fist into her open palm. "Taime fer me ta show ya yer barracks! They tell ya yer room number yet?"

Emi thought for a moment. She looked at the young wolf besides her. Did they tell us? she asked still searching her brain for the information.

Yes, yes they did. But I don't remember anything, FlameFrost replied back to Emi. He cocked his head a bit a started to think. Well, did they tell us about any of our neighbors?he asked, trying to spark a memory.

Emi snapped her fingers as she recalled a bit of information. "Well, I don't remember the exact number but I do remember them saying something about being next door to Miri," Emi shared. She figured that Abigail would know who Miri was.

We are next door to Miri? FlameFrost asked the teenager next to him. He must have been really zoning out when they had received the information.

Yes, FlameFrost, we are next door to Miri. Do you always zone out like that? Emi asked FlameFrost. "Um, I'm sorry. If I remembered her room number then this wouldn't be a problem but, as usual, I forgot it." Emi had an apologetic look on her face.
PostPosted: Sat May 09, 2009 5:45 pm

Abigail crossed her arms over her chest and hunched her shoulders. Her face was scrunched up into a strange expression, both eyes crossed to look at her nose as if the position might make her more able to remember. She walked a few steps to her right, turned around, and walked in the opposite direction. Then back, then forward, and so the process continued for a good five minutes. Several times, she smiled and looked toward Emi as if she had found out, only to shake her head and go back to pacing.

Finally, Abigail stopped and faced Emi with a solemn expression. "I got some good news and some puh-ten-sha-ly upsetting news." She spoke slowly, under the delusion that given enough time the information would somehow sneak its way into her mind. "The bad news is... Er... Well, if ah ever knew who that- What was her name? Mary? Agh, whoever the cowgirl is, ah don't know 'er." The older woman's face lit up, however, when it came to telling the good news. "The good news is that there's currently a vacancy at the ol' Abigail Baker inn. Ya can stay there 'til tomorrow and ask 'em fer yer number first thing in the mornin'." Abigail smiled, pleased with her generous offer. "Don't say I never gave ya nuthin'."

HailWing looked through narrowed eyes and her ridiculous companion and then sighed heavily. You're hopeless, she muttered to Abby before speaking pointedly to FlameFrost. If you know Miri's scent, then you can find it. If she has been here long, then her scent will be everywhere, but strongest in her barracks, HailWing told FlameFrost in a very academic manner. Her tone was authoritative, but not cross. If he did know Miri's scent, then this would likely be his first experience in tracking. If not, then the first lesson would have to wait until the next day. If not, then I will track her by the wolf she is bonded to.

HailWing searched through the database in her mind of the names of humans and the wolves that they were bonded to. She found no Miri specifically, but there was one Mirisua Cisan, who was in turn bonded to DarkWind. Hail had never oficially met the other wolf, but they were in the same places enough that she knew her scent. It would be made easier for the four of them if HailWing just did the work for them, but that was not the purpose of being an apprentice. The purpose of being an apprentice was to turn all those years of classroom theory into practice. It was one thing to learn about wolves through books. It was another to have one sneaking around in your mind.

Abigail glared at HailWing and shot at her, Dad gummit, why didn't ya say that before ah made a laughingstock o' mahself!?

Abigail, you've always been a cow with a sense of humor. This situation hasn't made any significant change.

Abigail was about to retort, then got the joke, then pondered as to why HailWing would ever attempt to tell a joke. She gave up quickly. Ya got me thar.

Emi chuckled quietly at her Patron. "I think I'll be able to ask around for her," Emi stated. You haven't met her yet right? Emi asked the red wolf.

Nope, I haven't met her yet. You said we would meet her later, The wolf replied to Emi. He turned to HailWing. Sorry, I don't know Miri's scent. We were going to meet her later. What I do know is that her bonded wolf is DarkWind. I hope that helped FlameFrost said to the older wolf.

Emi smiled at Abigail. "Thanks for the offer though. And Miri's name is actually Mirisua. If you see her she has light blue hair. Just to tell you." She looked at FlameFrost. "It would be nice if FlameFrost had met Miri cause he could try to find her by her scent but I can't blame him. After all I've only told him about her," she explained.

No, no you can't blame me. The red wolf chuckled at the female besides him.

Oh be quiet, Emi instantly shot back. She gave a small humph.
PostPosted: Sun May 31, 2009 12:09 pm

HailWing looked angrily toward FlameFrost. She would eat her pride for an Alpha. She would eat her pride for a Beta. There was no way on Earth she would eat her pride for this Adolescent. That he didn't know her scent was enough information. He thought Hail needed to be told the wolf she was bonded to? This adolescent needed some serious education.

The adult wolf reminded herself again that if word got out about any 'disturbances', then EternalRose would find some way to get from New Eve to White Shadow even during the Spring. And there would be hell to pay. That wolf was a Beta for a reason. There was no way that this Gamma could compete with that kind of strength.

Hail heaved a heavy, irritated sigh. Then let an experienced wolf show you how it's done, she replied. HailWing sniffed about for that scent which wasn't quite familiar. She knew it well enough to trace, surely. The easy part was finding the scent. It was all over the training area. The difficult part would be finding a useable trail that led back to Miriusa's barracks. There were trails all over the fort and leading in nearly every direction.

Instead of looking for one amongst the mingled scents near their meeting place, she headed closer to the barracks. It would be easy to find that one trail here that led to the correct barrack.

Abigail shook her head. "Not when HailWing's got her mind set on somethin'. She wants t' show your wolf how t' track. If she don't get her way, you'll have a real angry wolf at your behind." She followed HailWing and motioned for Emi to do the same. If that pup knew what was best for him, he would follow as well.

"You see, HailWing's kinda sensitive," Abigail explained and earned a growl at the remark. "You can't say no t' her. She'll take it personal." Abigail patted Emi on the back and continued walking. If they ever intended to get along with HailWing, they'd just have to smile and nod and do as they were told.

Emi gave Flame a knowing wolf. She ran her hand over his ears when she saw his head drop. It's okay. Just try to remember that she is your patron and you need to listen to her. Emi said kindly before following her Patron. Her steps were light and silent as she followed. "Sorry about Flame. I guess growing up as the bigger pup does exactly lead to a sensitive heart," she said to Abigail.

Flame followed the older wolf. He watched what she did , trying to memorize everything he could. I hope Emi will be up early tomorrow morning. That way I can practice tracking with her, the young wolf said to himself. Hey Emi, do you think ou can get up early on the morning? Flame asked his bonded human.

Since when do I wake up early? Emi replied.

Good point, good point. The red wolf hadn't thought about the girl's habit of staying up late. Still, at least try.

Fine. You win.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 04, 2009 6:38 pm

HailWing followed the trail through a line of small houses, around a tree, up the tree, and in front of various barracks that by the low intensity of the scent, she knew didn't belong to DarkWind. Following this particular trail might take some time, she told FlameFrost. Certain times, tracking something needs to be done more quickly. In those situations, this trail may be abandoned for one that is more short or fresh.

For various reasons, she wouldn't do that. FlameFrost would need to observe for as long as possible. For the next day or the day after, Hail had a training session planned. Basically, one of the group would hide and FlameFrost would have to track that person using her scent. The big problem would be trying to keep Emi from helping him through thought. HailWing would have to keep the information hidden from her too.

Abigail kept pace with HailWing, although the female wolf was traveling a bit quickly. She hoped Emi wasn't having any trouble with it. Of course, if the young girl was having trouble, then she would never admit it. Abigail got that kind of vibe from her.

"I wasn't tryin' to make you feel bad." She smiled. "It ain't required for a wolf to be sensitive anyway. Heck, a lot of them aren't." It seemed to her that Emi was trying too hard to please her. She knew the feeling. She really disliked formalities and wanted Emi to be as comfortable as possible here.

"I know back at the academy, the drill sergeant really lays into you if you do somethin' wrong, but here it's actually pretty laid-back. Once you're a Private, there's only a couple of people you have to worry about," Abigail said, panting a bit due to the pace. "Those are the Sergeants and the Captain."

Abigail stopped in thought, letting HailWing get a bit ahead of them. "That would be..."

The sergeants are Alister and Calla. The captain, as you should know, is Riya.

Abigail moved to catch up. "Right, the sergeants are Alister Shields and Calla Bianchi. The captain is Riya... Does she even have a last name?" She wondered aloud.

We're getting close, HailWing told everyone as the scent increased in intensity.

Emi laughed freely. "Ya, the drill sergeant really did some surprising stuff. During one of our training courses, he handcuffed two people together." She told her Patron. "I got stuck with my friend Goggles."

Um, HailWing, could you tell me a bit about the Captain and Sergeants? FlameFrost asked. He would understand if she would be more focused on teaching him on tracking.

Flame, make sure you are still paying attention to HailWing's tracking if she does start talking. Emi told her bonded wolf.

I know that! FlameFrost said back. It was quiet obvious that He had forgotten to pay attention when he quickly redirected his attention to HailWing's tracking.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 04, 2009 7:23 pm

Abigail smiled back. "Oh really? At least you were stuck with a friend. I was always stuck with peope I didn't like. 'Course, back in the academy, I didn't like nobody," she answered, lauging a bit at herself.

HailWing, stopped, perfectly content to do so. They had arrived already, so it didn't bother her. She wondered how long it would take them to figure it out without her telling. "All right," HailWing responded flatly. "The Captain is Riya, as you heard my human say. She is bonded to Stardust, my sister, who is the current Alpha here at White Shadow." She sat down, swishing her tail back and forth.

"The Sergeants are Alister Shields and Calla Bianchi. Alister is bonded to Twilight, a Beta. Calla is bonded to WoodWhisp, another Beta," Hail continued. And that was it, unless he had anything specific he wanted to ask about them.

Abigail was relieved when Hail stopped. She was getting a bit tired. Although she was training dilligently during the winter, she had gotten a little soft during those months. It was lucky she had an apprentice now. It would be easier to get back into shape with someone to train with."

Cool. Thanks for the information. FlameFrost thanked the older wolf.

"You don't seem anything like what you say you used to be." Emi laughed. "Um... so, is this Miri's place?" She asked. Her legs were hurting her slightly but she didn't say so.

Just noticed, Emi? FlameFrost asked.

Oh shut it. Emi shot back.
