Along one side of the living area, tucked away in a alcove hidden by a curtain, a bed, a very small table stands against the foot of the bed, a chest, which sometimes acts as a chair for its owner, and a few other basics can be seen, including a white robe hanging from one of the few pegs in the wall. The area is kept relatively straight, the only thing that looks tussled is the bedspread, as if someone had hastily made the bed before going about their business. It seems as this area is only used for sleeping and occasionally studying, as apparent by the few pages of notes and things lying around. On top of the table lies a leather bound book. The cover is a rich rust color and bears a handful of wrinkles and age spots in the soft leather. A faint, sweet, spicy scent can be noticed rising from the cover, traces of the oil used to soften the leather of the cover to be pleasing to the touch. Along the opening edge of the book is a buckle for securing the privacy of the pages within, but it has been left unclasped. The pages appear to be hand torn, resulting in varying edges that give the otherwise simple book a little something extra. If opened, a short message can be seen written on the inner cover. "We're proud of you, son. We hope this journal can be of use to you when you have your adventures." There are two signatures beneath. On the first page in a different handwriting: This journal belongs to Uroru, of the Ista Weyr, and candidate. Only a select few can view these pages, so ask first before continuing. Uroru.Of course, no one is around currently to tell you otherwise, and the owner isn't around to ask, so why not take a little peek at what is written within. Name: Uroru (Should he impress: U’ru) Age: 17 Turns Sex: Male Craft: Tanner Rank: Apprentice Orientation: Heterosexual
Physical Description: Good genes and decent nutrition has given Uroru length of bone, leaving him standing tall at six foot four, with the possibility of another inch or two to grow before he stops growing completely. A bit of an unfortunate habit of his is to slouch heavily, resulting in him normally standing around six foot one or two unless he gets offended, when in the presence of higher ups or ladies, or when he starts to speak passionately about something. Due to his high metabolism and seemingly endless bouts of energy, he is on the lean side in spite of his great appetite lending him a wiry musculature and an ectomorphic build. It isn’t yet apparent, but with age his energy may fade a bit letting him put on the weight that would give him a balanced, sturdy build. He looks awkward and a bit gangly but carries himself well. Uroru can feel a little self conscious about his height at times.
His bright, intelligent eyes are of a warm honey brown color but often appear to be black due to the fact that his pupils are a bit larger than normal. Because of this, extremely bright sun can bother him which often leads to Uroru letting his normally short auburn brown hair grow shaggier to help shade his eyes, particularly his bangs. But the longer his hair gets the faster he gets frustrated with it. It’s very thick and when it gets long it holds his body heat close to his skin. (He keeps insisting that he ‘burns hotter’ than most, which may be true since at any time of the Turn heat can be felt rising off of his skin if someone sits or stands close enough.) His skin has a bit of tan to it naturally with a hint of an olive undertone, but after some time in the sun and after a five days to a week of being sunburned his skin simply becomes a darker tan. There are a handful of pale scars on his hands, forearms, and legs from boyhood roughhousing. A few notable ones are the gently sloped crescent scar on his chin which is most notable when he purses his lips in thought or when he scowls, a Y-shaped scar on his right side from a tumble when he was around ten, and a wide U-shaped scar on his left shin from a slip while climbing a rough old tree.
Personality: Uroru loves to listen, ranging from other people conversing, to the hustle and bustle out in the market, or the rain pattering gently overhead. Initially when in a new place, or when surrounded by those he isn’t familiar with, he quietly observes the situation before forming an opinion on how to react to his surroundings. Provided that the opinion he forms of a new person or circumstance is a good one, Uroru opens right up, speaking warmly and in familiar terms. He is an amiable sort who enjoys hearing out others problems and offering an outside view of the issue. He has the habit of making himself readily available to everyone who could need him, while he hesitates to share his own thoughts and feelings with others unless he is very familiar with them. He hesitates when others ask him how he is feeling and what his worries are, preferring to bite his tongue and let them believe that is nothing to worry about. Sometimes he simply doesn’t acknowledge what he is feeling or what his problem/difficulty is until someone points it out to him directly in bold black and white. Uroru isn’t very good at handling surprises, sometimes staring like a deer in the headlights, so to speak, or rambling on in search of the proper words to express his surprise, be it good or bad.
Uroru is a generally calm soul who is slow to anger. When trouble starts brewing or if things look like they are going to sour, he runs as many possible scenarios through his mind so that he could come up with to come to a resolution that would be suited for as many people as possible, or at least let himself or his party get out with as little harm as could be reasonably managed. He isn't the sort to leap before he looks. Uroru is self-confident to the point where insults and jeers, if any are ever directed at him, roll off his back without any trouble. He carries himself with a degree of noted self-assuredness and enjoys facing new challenges. But, he doesn’t have ungodly amounts of tolerance. If all manner of stresses from various sources all mount up on his shoulders in a short period of time Uroru has been known to suffer the occasional breakdown which usually involves him disappearing on a walk to some unknown destination until he’s had a chance to clear his head and sort things out. Uroru is a fairly honest person, who doesn’t like mince words. When in the presence of elders or ladies, Uroru is respectful and calm, a fact that usually masks his nervousness around them. Around guys his own age, maybe a little older or younger, he acts chummy and a bit goofy. He likes being around others and being kept busy. If he has nothing to do, he tends to sulk until something catches his interest. Overall, he is energetic and ready and willing to offer a hand to a task or cause that he finds suitable. His view on things is quite optimistic. Uroru doesn’t come off as a necessarily happy person, but more content with himself and interested on handling what is necessary for him to have a happy future. (Unfortunately, he mostly spends his time thinking and worrying about his day to day needs and things. He’s content with himself at present so doesn’t really fret over his future, which is another sort of sensitive subject when it is brought up.) It’s hard to keep him down for a prolonged period of time.
History: Life, thus far, has treated Uroru kindly. His grandfather, D’lei, had been a Brownrider who let his son be raised just as any Weyrbrat would be, in a communal setting. Uroru’s father, Korind, was interested in becoming a rider and was allowed to stand in at a few Hatchings but never impressed. At least he hadn’t up to the point where he began questioning whether or not he belonged amongst the other Candidates. He had been thinking this for a while and had taken a bit of an interest in tanning. Uroru’s father took to tanning with vigor and had a passion for it. After turning twenty three Turns, Korind met the woman that he would make his wife, a spunky Hold-raised gal with a bit of a habit of singing aloud to herself as she went about her business who simply had a certain way about her that just left him reeling awe-struck. After marrying, they moved back to Ista Hold to start their lives.
Together, the pair would have five kids, Uroru being the middle child. He is the only son out of the five children. The family lived in Ista Hold until their son was about seven when they moved to Ista Weyr so Korind could offer his services to riders and the public there, should they need him. His eldest sister, Fraeska, took interest in Harpercraft, having a passion for music that sometimes eclipsed that of her mother’s. His next older sibling was searched when she was fourteen and he was twelve. The time following was busy for Uroru, since he was getting to be an age where he could help out more around the home and gain more skills in tanning. One particularly hot day a year and a half down the road, Uroru was taking a break from a particularly strenuous lesson near the marketplace. He hadn’t intended it to be a long break, the heavy duty apron still tied about him and gloves tucked away in a pocket highlighted this, but a commotion down the way drew his attention. From his spot in the shade, he could see a pair of dragons and their riders. A green and a blue dragon. They were positively majestic and moved with such ease of grace and strength. A crowd was gathering and Uroru’s curiosity was piqued as to why. As he drew nearer, he could see the dragons seeming to scan the faces of the crowd. The blue’s gaze passed over his section of crowd before turning his head to look at another section. The green skimmed from the other direction and locked her gaze keenly on his section. After a moment or two, the Greenrider turned to him and motioned him over. Making his way closer he was told had been searched to become a Candidate. Normally a situation that would cause an immediate reaction, Uroru’s mind drew a blank in his surprise and it took him a moment or two to shake himself out of his surprised stupor. (The snuffling sound that the green dragon made as she sniffed his hair also helped out there.) He gave a slightly crooked smile and rambled his thanks, but insisted on finishing his lessons for the day as he was being expected. Uroru was given an 'Alright' and was allowed to go finish his lessons for the day upon promising he would go where he needed to go afterwards. This was fine with him. It gave him a chance to go and tell his family what had happened out near the marketplace. He was so excited! He had been Searched, just like his eldest sister.
His parents were thrilled at hearing the news, although his father jokingly griped about having to train up a new apprentice. His younger sisters, while excited for him, were sad that their big brother was going to live elsewhere. Uroru assured them that everything would be fine and that if things didn't work out and if he never Impressed, he would always return home to them. Pets: None, but wouldn’t mind a companion of some sort. Other/Talents: He does enjoy singing (or humming when he studies), but never around anyone, if he can help it. He was always climbing as a youngster and that has helped to refine his hand-eye coordination.
