Many pairs of feet trod the grounds near the manor, heading in the direction of the nearby forest. Amelia led the group, being the person who'd started forming the group and therefore assumed the role of "Fearless Leader". Following her was a caravan of Rhys, Kishuna, Sue, and Ninian, not necessarily in that order.
Rhys looked at the trees spreading in front of them. Last we saw Rei and Nils, they headed into this forest. Will we find them in here today? If we do find one, the other, or both, how will we beat them?
Rhys shivered slightly, feeling a little nervous. It had been quite a while since he'd seen any dangerous-looking fights such as this. He hoped Ninian's skills of sensing danger would be up to the task. Moreover, he hoped that he was right... that despite their worst efforts, neither Rei nor Nils could actually kill. That there was still some good in them, desperate for a way to be saved.

Amelia's grip on her Javelin was tight, knuckles lightening under her heavy gloves. The plates covering the flesh over the sides of her thighs shifted back and forth with each step, her shoulderguards and breastplate clicking together heavily if she moved too quickly. She felt her nerves getting to her, a heavy clawing feeling deep in the pit of her stomach.
The last time she had fought Rei, she had been fighting to knock him out, at least in the beginning. Time wore on and found her fighting to incapacitate, even if it meant drawing blood. Rei had been fighting to kill from the beginning. And he won. If Rhys hadn't been outside of Rei's Erebus barrier from the beginning, Amelia knew she would have died. The wounds on her chest had been bleeding heavily. The scar was there, pale lines with raised, rough edges surrounding it near the center, where it criss-crossed at her sternum.
There could be no hesitation this time. Rei was not going to let her leave alive this time, or anyone else. If they found him, he would be fighting to kill. They would be fighting to incapacitate.
And if that meant dealing heavy damage to him, then so be it. Amelia knew better than to hold back. Other lives other than her own were at stake here. She gripped her free hand into a fist, thinking of those who followed her, silently nominating her leader for the expedition. Kishuna, Sue, Ninian... Rhys...
Their expectations would have to be upheld. She couldn't lose, not this time. Most importantly, she couldn't let them get hurt. It was one thing to be responsible to have your own body harmed, but someone else? Inexcusable. Amelia closed her eyes for a fraction of a second, then picked up her pace. She was going to win this time. She was going to keep the others safe. And most importantly, she was going to save Rei.
Watch out for us, Rei. We're coming.

Ninian quietly followed Rhys and Amelia, letting the pair lead their rather odd group, which also included Sue and a man called Kishuna. Admittedly, she was nervous; it had been a long time since she'd been involved with any sort of battle, and even then, Eliwood had been close by. She felt safe with him, but he wasn't here now. She wasn't a long, but she felt that way.
Yes, she knew Sue--the nomad had chased after Nils with the dancer just after Nils had been attacked. Yes, she knew Amelia and Rhys--she'd seen them around countless times, and even talked to Amelia on occasion. She didn't know Kishuna. But that wasn't it--these people were her friends, she knew that. So why didn't she feel safe around them?
Now wasn't the time to think of such things. They were searching for Rei and Nils, who would hopefully be together. The farther they walked, the more frightened Ninian grew. She forced the fear out of her mind, trying to pretend that Eliwood was there after all.
The last time Nils and I were separated, things turned out alright. He was safe. And he will be safe soon. We will save him, and Rei, too.
She had to believe that. She had to be strong. Her friends needed her. Her brother needed his sister.
She clenched her fist and walked on, forcing herself not to be afraid, thinking only of rescuing her brother.

Sue followed her comrades, among both host club members and otherwise. She'd save Rei and Nils this time...she wouldn't fail. She hadn't got the chance to really know Kishuana: but he was someone that Father Renault trusted. She could trust him, at least she thought so. "Just you wait... both of you. I'll... save you. I promise on my Sacaen honor."

Rei stood against a tree, out of the sight of the pursuers. As he lightly swayed back and forth, he took out the Erebus tome, taking a few deep breaths to calm himself. His reverie was stopped, though, to the faint sounds of a horse. As his muscles tensed, he opened the tome, preparing to attack should the sound be hostile. He'd almost been destroyed by Renault, so he was taking no chances. Peering around the corner, keeping his head in the shadows of another tree, Rei spied the majority of the Host Club, aided by Ninian and an unknown figure.
Take 'em all out. Kill them off, one by one, keep your hide intact. Get the first strike, the rest goes like clockwork. Turning around, Rei faced the tree, hands slightly shaking due to the tension. Shooting out from behind the tree, 5 rows of tendrils shot out, one for Kishuna, one for Sue, one for Rhys, one for Amelia, and one for Ninian. Still safely behind the edge of the forest, Rei took a small step back, in case anything came hurtling towards the tree.

The morph walked in front of the others, save Amelia; they probably didn't trust him, and he understood that. He didn't know any of them very well yet, after all; though Ninian he was familiar with, and Amelia he'd met previously. The man's eyes scanned over the group, taking in the expressions and poses of each member there. They all seemed nervous and on edge. Well, that wasn't going to help. He himself was calm and collected, even to the point of being relaxed. Of course, he wasn't really as hard to kill as them. And they were going up against a magic-user; which of course he was immune to. But in any case, if they were nervous, they would have to-
And there came the first volley. Looked like the enemy was a lot more prepared this time. Tendrils came rushing towards them, one for each. How nice. But although they looked physical, this was nothing but constructed magic. He of course couldn't stop the others, though; he could only reach so far, and he had to block the tentacle coming after him. One hand came up, and a gentle red light came forth. The tendril rushed forward. . . but once it reached his hand, the tip vanished, and it seemed as if the tendril was simply rushing into another world. This would continue until either Kishuna stopped concentrating or the tendril retreated.

Rhys felt the dark energy off to the right as it charged up for a split second. He only had time to spout off a quick "Rei's here" as the dark tendrils surged toward them. Rather than waste his energies jumping to one side, he focused his energies on his mind, forming a mental barrier against the strike.
The tendril SPEARED Rhys straight through the heart and kept on going.
A second later, Rhys blinked and looked down at himself. He'd felt the dark energy go through him, yes, but Rei hadn't given this spell all his energy. As a result, Rhys was unharmed, his mental defenses too strong for Rei's magical attack.

Amelia did not expect to see a tendril of dark magic shoot out so suddenly, aiming right for them. However, a combination of nerves and knowledge from her previous battle had kept her on her guard, and as the magic flew for her, she slashed expertly with her Javelin, driving the sharp head straight through the tentacle of magic. As it fizzled away with little spurts of energy, Amelia stood up straight, whipping her weapon to the side, as if to flick off remnants of energy.
"He's got to be close," Amelia whispered breathlessly. She looked to the forest's edge, eyes stony. Was it better to shout and try to draw him out, or quietly search? He already knows where we are... but we don't know where he is.
"Stay close." Amelia took a few steps forward, trying to move just so, attempting to shift her weight so her armor would stay quiet.

... Remind me again why I decided to follow Rei. Nils thought to himself, biting back a curse. One hand was wrapped tightly around his dragon stone, the other helping him keep his balance; if he fell from how high he was in the tree, there would be no way he could remain unharmed. And with those people down there, looking for Rei? Yeah... I'd be in huge trouble. They aren't just looking for Rei. They're looking for me as well. He sighed lightly, listening to Daniel Tuck as he began to chirp something that sounded like a completely dull and boring version of Caramelldansen. But still...
He reached for the golden flute on his belt and threw it as hard as he could at Rhys.
(( FLUTE TO THE HEAD. ))

Rhys blocked out Rei's mental attack after putting forth some effort in doing so, but he hadn't exactly expected a FLUTE to come flying out of the sky and bopping him on the head. "Ow!" he said, rubbing a hand over his sore head. He examined his hand, and found no blood--at least his hair had softened the blow enough to prevent any real damage.
He turned around, looking on the ground for what the heck hit him, and saw the flute.
"...Nils?"
Rhys turned back around, scanning the treetops. It was rather shady, so he couldn't tell whether he might be looking at Nils, some squirrels, or perhaps even a bird nest.
"Rei? Nils? Hello? We just want to talk to you," Rhys called out to nobody in particular, not sure where they'd strike from next if they did.

Amelia nearly leaped out of her skin when she heard Rhys' sharp proclamation of pain, whirling around. There was a flute on the ground, and Rhys was rubbing his head. A flute...
"...Nils?"
Well, that answered one mystery.
Amelia turned back to the forest's edge. Rei and Nils were likely to be there somewhere, and if Nils managed to throw the flute at Rhys' forehead, Nils would at least have to be at the forest's edge, probably just lurking in a shadowy area where they couldn't make him out amongst the leaves and branches. "Rei! Nils!" Amelia shouted. She stepped forward again, looking around the trees helplessly. Too dark in that thick foliage to make anything out.
"Please, just... come out. We don't want to fight you." Amelia paused, then looked at her Javelin and thought of the Killer Lance on her back. She took a breath, then shouted, "If you keep attacking us, we'll only be forced to attack you. Please, stop. We can reach an armistice if you just come out."

Rei retreated slightly into the forest, where the shade of the trees would conceal him. As he became comfortable in this new spot, Rei saw a shiny object slam into the Bishop: Nils's flute. Come on, knock them around, and take 'em down! Not waiting for a lapse in activity, Rei launched another volley of tendrils, these all aimed towards the dazed Rhys.

Amelia expected at least some sort of sound from within the forest; a snapping branch, a breath, even a word from him. With those thick trees, it'd be difficult to tell where exactly he was, especially if he was moving. Instead, he sent another attack of magic, but this time, instead of attacking the group, they were all heading for one target. A target already a little off-balance from a previous blow to the forehead.
"Leave him alone!" Amelia shouted, sliding in front of Rhys. She knew he was strong, and that he was defensively minded for magic, but her first thought was to defend him, not to worry about his pride. She slashed forward once with the Javelin, sliding a tendril in half and making it wither away, another lashing right past her shoulder, nearly sending her to the grass. Amelia knew she couldn't block all of them; she just had to hope Rhys wouldn't rely on her ability to cut down these things.

Rhys paused for a second, surprised and inwardly pleased that Amelia stepped forward to defend him. In truth, Rei's attack contained expert timing, and had Rhys been alone...
Okay, so maybe they CAN kill? But...
The big thing was that Amelia's Javelin chopped through the first one. Taking the first two gave him a second to act--not enough time to reach into his robes to grab Shine, but really, there were other methods to call forth magic. Tomes were the safest--the words within contained the magic, and merely reciting them properly could release the magic. Of course, that's IF you had the book open and in front of you.
One alternative would be fast enough, but dangerous--he'd be using his own life force to channel magical energy. It'd leave him exhausted, and unable to do much more. He'd recover in time, sure. It'd just take time.
Tapping into his own energy, Rhys concentrated, his left fist starting to shine with holy energy. Placing his right hand on Amelia's shoulder and using her to assist with momentum, he swung around her, punching two incoming tendrils with his holy fist, dissipating them both. That took care of the worst of the spell. Amelia could handle the rest.
Following that, he paused to gasp for breath, feeling fatigued as he reached into his robes to pull out the Shine tome to make sure he didn't do that again.

Kishuna slid up, as well, using this as an opening to help out some. He smirked slightly, moving around Rhys, then paused behind the bishop and stretched an arm over his shoulder. It was exactly the same as before; a red glow spread out, a bit further this time, nullifying the magic creating the tentacles. Now, that was a little more fair. Attacking someone who wasn't quite ready to repel the attack was kind of underhanded. But, that should be the last of them, for now at least. "Be more careful," he told the young bishop. "We're here, but our reflexes may not be fast enough to stop it next time. Alright?" The man straightened, then moved forward a few steps, beckoning in the direction of the woods. "All right. You, little tentacle boy! Or whoever you are. Why don't you try that on me? If you catch me off guard you might make a nick."
