Hi, i've been a bellydancer for about four years, and i've been performing for about three and a half. And in that time i've had my fair share of forgotten moves, lost timing and wardrobe malfunctions, the most recent being just a couple weeks ago when my veil got snagged on my kuchi belt mid step. I'm told it didn't look bad, but to me it felt like all eyes in the theater were on my waist lol. So come in and share your flub ups and forgotten moves, i'm told it's supposed to make you feel better lol.

I had my turkish vest pop open in my most recent preformance...that kinda blew. lol I'm just greatful I had pinned my goomluc (sp??) (shirt) to my bra, so I wasnt flashing the entire world....good thing too because that bra has a bad habit of showing underboob...

Lesse...

I forgot a turn during one of my most important preformances when I just started dancing...Oi...that sucked.

At friday's performance I was doing snake-arms with a veil and walking sideways. When I went to toss my veil and kick my leg up, my toe got caught on my pants and I nearly tripped.

I dont think anyone noticed, I asked around and they said no...but MAN did that HUUUUUUUUUUURT. I was afraid I broke my toe...it was all numb and hurting at the same time. lol

At least if I had fallen, I would have fallen into a pile of friends from another troupe and landed right in Melanie's cleavage...lmao.

The dance space was ODD. It had 2 poles in it. During one part of the song, my bff and I trade places on the stage by spinning across the middle, and our spots happen to be...where? Right next to the poles... So we came up with a plan that if either of us ran into the pole, Fey (The girl in the back and middle) was to instantly start to take her clothes off to distract from what had happened. lol Fey had 2 shirts on and was roasting...so we told her to just stip. Luckily, neither of us ran into the poles, and Fey kept her clothes on until after the show.

A few weekends ago, I stood up from doing floorwork and caught my toe in my pants, which resulted in pulling them down under my butt. Luckily, I had a skirt on, or I would have given the audience an unexpected surprise. blaugh

And the whole veil getting stuck on your head thing is a rather common occurrence at outdoor events.
Veil + wind = comedy routine

Lol, true. One of our first ever performances was at this little shindig called Culture Fest, up near Pipestem (WV) and it was so windy that every time anyone, even other dancers, tried anything with veils, they would fly away or blow back in their faces, i think one actually got caught up a tree lol. Even our skirts were misbehaving lol, but then again, 25 yards of fabric tends to act like a sail in the right climate lol

Ever try running through a rainstorm with a 25yard skirt? I dont suggest it. lol Man circle skirts are heavy when it rains!

i almsot had a close call a few weeks ago. We were dancing at the freedom festivle, so i had my blue pants, and white skirt on. we had so much room yet all the girls didn't stagger so being scared to step on anyone, and forgetting to take of my sandles, my skirt got caught under my sandle as i stepped down. i thought my skirt went past my butt but it didn't.

i was so nervouse i tried to feel for my skirt. gah, got to love forgetfullness

Running in the rain in a circle skirt...wow, you're a dare devil, or just very unlucky lol. My skirt has a habit of slipping down, we got the ones from moondance bellydance, so they had the elastic waistband in them, and mine was too tight so we took it out, but the stitches we put in to keep it in place aren't exactly the strongest so it likes to slip out from under my belt and get tangled up in my feet lol, makes for some interesting moves at dress rehersals lol

Oh! You could always put thick elastic in the waist, and insted of sewing it in, use it like a draw string...that skirt wont go anywhere. lol

I was walking back to my camp with some people at my first Pennsic War, and happened to be wearing my brand new 2.5 circle-circle skirt. Well, it just started totaly down pouring, and everyone was running. My stupid skirt kept getting caught around my legs and I was finaly like "Why the hell am I running? I zipped my tent up..." So I picked the hem of my skirt up and tossed it over my shoulder and sloshed back to camp. lol
I put my skirt on top of my tent to dry, and I thought it was going to cave the tent in it was so heavy. So funny. lol

I was at a hafla having a lovely time, and then I was just dancing, aaand I went to my knees and my harem pants ripped. Of course it was on the outside seem, either.
Crotch seem tore completely. It was awesome. I didn't have anything else to wear either so I ended up tying a veil over it and pretending nothing was wrong. It worked, for the most part. It was pretty bad, though.

I learned after that happened with a costume I made that double-stitching can help avoid that. Once, out of sheer paranoia, I triple-stitched.

I had an earring fly off and hit a camera. Thankfully I got it back after.

Really? I had an earring fall out and into my cleveage...and then I was dancing and was like "Well frick...now I look like an idiot with one earring!" and then the other one fell off and joined it's twin in my boobs. Highly funny. (Now I always use those little foam backings on the earrings that are hooks.)

A wise precaution to take.
