In the Weyr there's a girl named Nan...

Sovann stood stirring a boiling pot, his expression one of intense concentration. There were few enough things that he was serious about, and cooking was one of them. The others on his list were secret, truths that he would never reveal if he could avoid it, but then again in a Weyr this large, did anyone really have secrets? He mused on that thought for a moment, carefully to avoid burning himself as he stirred. Okassis had secrets. A lot of secrets... that much he knew. His friend had always been quick to make up stories, but very slow to share his own memories and experiences. That had never bothered Sovann until now. Now, it seemed to him that something was getting to Kas, something that he couldn't help him with. He didn't like the idea of being so helpless to assist his very best friend. ... Then again, how much of a friend was he when he was always teasing, and trying to get Sovann to humiliate himself? A hint of a smile tugged at the corner of the seaholder's lips, and he shook his head. It really was like having a brother, wasn't it? A bratty younger brother, or a mean elder brother who picked on him. Just what he needed, of course. Cursing, he realized that he was letting the pot get too hot, and he carefully directed his attentions back on the stew that he was supposed to be minding.

The Queen had returned to her throne, so to speak. Apparently the Headwoman had decided it was safe to let Nandeli return to her corner of tuber peeling awesomeness, and she had resumed her favourite duty that very morning. All of her usual crowd seemed quite pleased to see her, especially when she brought news of the Klah-Off that she had been a part of. Word of Sovann's kiss had flew faster than a flit chasing a tunnel snake, and by the time it reached the kitchen staff they were saying he'd kissed Nelioa to stop her from choking to death on her klah (following the kiss, the poor girl swooned from the sheer handsomeness of Sovann). Nandeli, for her part, did nothing to change the rumours.

It was around midday when she finally got up to stretch her legs, making her way towards the front of the kitchen. As she rounded a corner, her eyes locked on the very target of her earlier gossiping. Nan's expression quickly moved from glee to absolutely devilish. It was an expression that those choice few people who called themselves her friends had learned to avoid. Whenever she got that look on her face she was up to something. And whatever that something was, you could bet it was no good.

"Thinking of Okassis?" She whispered as she leaned in, "On top or on the bottom?"

As if from his nightmares, Nan's voice cut through Sovann's thoughts. Sovann, who had been thinking of Okassis (but not in that way, oh Shards!) nearly spilled the stew all over himself. Frantically, he righted the pot, and turned to glare at Nandeli. It was at that point that he realized that he had no idea what she was implying. "I was thinking of Okassis, but... what?" There had to be something strange about her remark. He could not imagine that she would have whispered it otherwise, and it was frankly questionable for having come from her. She was as much of a troublemaker as Kas, and she was female. That meant that he had no idea how to work with or around her. He just caught the tell tale sound of the pot bubbling again in time to keep it from boiling over once more. ... He really didn't need distractions while he cooked, really he didn't. It seemed to be coming along well enough, all things considered. But what had Nandeli meant just now?

Sovann's glare was met with one of Nan's winning, mega-watt smiles as she waited eagerly for his answer. Judging by the way he had nearly spilled the stew everywhere she had clearly been right about who he was thinking about. The very thought nearly made her squee, but she composed herself. She had to figure out the dynamics of their secret gay relationship before she jumped to any conclusions.

At his question she mock gasped, covering her mouth as though he had just said something he shouldn't have. He didn't know anything about gay sex? The poor boy! What were they teaching children in the Holds these days? Clearly nothing important, as far as Nandeli was concerned. With a dramatic sigh and a flip of her curls, she finally said, "You know, giving and receiving? Dealing it out and taking it? Greenrider and bluerider?" She paused to see if she was making any progress.

Oh. Oh! As realization dawned on Sovann, he started to look slightly green around the gills. "With Okassis? Oh gross!" What an absolutely deplorable thought. Not that Kas was unattractive, but that was like imagining himself with his brother. Sovann wasn't up for an incestuous brotherly relationship. "No. Never. Absolutely not going to happen ever." By the Golden Egg of Faranth, what had possessed the girl to think of something so depraved? Not, of course, that he objected to the idea on principle (and with someone else!), but really that was going a bit too far. Carefully, he divided his time between the girl and the stew (which was thankfully almost finished), an eyebrow raised at her temerity. Had she no shame?

"Oh."

For a moment, Nandeli had an expression on her face akin to severe disappointment. He thought that kind of thing was gross? Major bummer. Though, now that she thought about it, he was probably only thinking that because of his Holder parents. They would have definitely told him that being gay was gross because it didn't produce any children. Apparently that made something bad. Nandeli was quite sure that any girl would eventually see the awesome that was gay men. It was in their blood.

With that thought in mind, the grin returned to her face. "But you definitely like him, don't you? I mean, you wrote a song about him any everything. And it was totally one of those songs that guys write about girls they secretly like, you know. Didn't you ever see those boys who are purposefully mean to the girls they like?"

Sovann blinked, a flicker of confusion crossing his face. "... Huh? I didn't mean I think that kind of thing is gross. Just, y'know, it's gross with Okassis. He's like my brother. Really, that's just... way too much." Not that he knew how he felt about that kind of thing where it didn't concern Okassis, though. He chose not to think too hard about it. "Ah. I didn't write that song to be mean to Kas. You don't know him, obviously. He loves that kind of thing." He had written the song, in point of fact, to get his friend laughing. "'Course I was a bit annoyed with him when I sang it." What was she aiming at now? The girl was stark raving mad, he was sure! "Uhhn... I like him, sure as shells. I don't like him, like him, if that's what you mean." He had known Kas far too long for that.

Nandeli's face lit up instantly. "So you don't think the actual act itself is gross, you just think that Okassis is just that bad between the bedfurs? I don't blame you, I can't say I've got any personal experience in that matter, so I won't dispute what you say. After all, you do know him better than I do." Leave it up to Nan to totally change what people said to suit her needs. It would have boring to have to tell her following that Sovann just thought of Okassis as a brother. Clearly he had ulterior motives.

"And he loves having songs written about him? Or just you writing things for him?" Perhaps this was a two-way crush? This was getting good! She simply waved off his last statement about not liking him that way. "That's what the boys say all the time about the girls they write mean songs about. It's nothing new. But don't worry, I won't tell him until you're ready to confess your feelings."

She was... she was utterly delusional! Sovann's brow furrowed, and he shook his head. "Obviously you're not going to believe me... but I am really not interested in Okassis. Really." It was remarkably good that Nandeli seemed to have no clue about Sovann's other interests. He was somewhat relieved that she was casting aspersions on the relationship he had with Okassis rather than actually searching out the truth. Of course, considering that he didn't have any serious interests, it was not likely that there was any real threat from that quarter anyway. "Look, I'm not going to try anything with anyone until I at least know what I want, all right? So Okassis is out of the picture either way." ... Oh dear. That was probably just going to encourage her, wasn't it?
PostPosted: Fri Apr 24, 2009 7:20 pm

"Not yet you're not," she countered, grinning cheekily. Nandeli didn't bother asking if Sovann had seen his friend shirtless yet, since that tended to be a deciding factor. Okassis wasn't exactly tall, dark and handsome like the ideal gay man, but he certainly had his own attractiveness. She was sure that Sovann would see it one way or another.

She tilted her head at Sovann's final words, looking thoughtful. "You don't know what you want?" Nan repeated slowly, "You mean like gender-wise or just what you're looking for in another person?" Relationships had always fascinated her, and it was easy to see that she was interested in Sovann's love life whether he liked Okassis or not. "I mean, you looked awful funny after you kissed that girl at the Klah-Off…"

"Both, actually. I hadn't thought of it before I came here, and now I'm busy enough that I don't really have time to think about it. ... Why do you want to know, anyway?" Granted, Sovann was tall and dark... (sort of tall anyway), though 'handsome' was somewhat open for interpretation. His nose was slightly crooked at the top, and his cheek had one dimple, which he thought all gave him character. Handsome or not, gay or not, it seemed that his love life was very much of interest to Nan. "To be fair, the girl at the Klah-Off smelled of fish oil. I would've preferred that the first person I kissed wasn't quite so fragrant." If only he were better at concealing the the truth! Not that Nandeli was likely to take his words for that anyway.
PostPosted: Fri Apr 24, 2009 7:51 pm

"Because I want to know everything about everyone. Didn't Okassis tell you anything about me?" So that was how it was. How interesting. She would definitely have to help Sovann in his quest for Weyr romance! Well, the quest that she was going to assign him that she was also going to volunteer to be a part of. He didn't get very much choice in the whole matter, sadly, but that was how things went with Nandeli. She didn't give people much time to give their own opinion, especially when she could just substitute her own.

"You honestly haven't been looking at any of the other Candidates? Not even the sort of sidelong glances that you give people when you see something you like?" She certainly saw enough Candidates doing it when they though nobody was looking. Her grin widened when Sovann said that the girl had been his first kiss, ignoring the bit about the fish. "Aaaaw, how cute! Was it really your first kiss? I don't know if it really counts when it's on the cheek… So technically, you could use your first kiss card on Okassis if you really wanted to."

Was she serious? Yes. Yes, she did seem to be serious. Sovann gave Nan a wary glance, carefully setting the pot of stew on the counter. If only that were his final chore for the day! He could escape Nan and her prying questions. "Yes, it really was. I thought that was fairly plain from my reaction." The idea of using his first kiss with Okassis was absolutely horrifying. "Nan, what is exactly makes you think that I'd want to waste my first kiss on Okassis?" They weren't on a first name basis, but he was definitely tired enough of hearing about his 'connection' to Okassis to use her nickname. "No, Kas didn't tell me anything about you."
PostPosted: Fri Apr 24, 2009 8:25 pm

Nan laughed. "Actually, most people tend to turn red not green after their first kiss, not to mention it's usually on the mouth and not on the cheek. Some people still turn red after you kiss them on the cheek, no matter how old they are!" Take C'ym for example. She was determined to make that bronzerider blush so red the colour would go right down his neck. So far, however, she hadn't figured out how to do it. Perhaps she should try out her strategies on Sovann. He seemed like a good candidate.

At the mention of Okassis she simply shrugged. "Well, he's nice and he's good looking," she ticked those off on her fingers, "And he's your friend so you can at least sort of count on him not to do anything too invasive. Maybe. There's always that Inaari girl too. She's cute. Do you like her?" Nandeli couldn't help but be a little upset that Okassis hadn't at least told Sovann who she was. After all, she had been the commentator for their klah-off. But her introductions would have to wait. She wanted to know more about Sovann.

"Inaari... the little holder? Yes, I know her. She's a nice girl. Real young." And, therefore, completely out of Sovann's sights. He hadn't even considered her for a moment. "I'll give you that Okassis is good looking. He tells me that often enough that I might as well concede it. Still, it's like having a good looking brother. He could be absolutely gorgeous and I wouldn't give him a second glance." The idea was in fact so repellent that he'd never even considered it until now. He definitely wasn't planning on falling into Nan's evil clutches. "Need I remind you that she was choking on fish oil when I kissed her? That's not exactly the most romantic of circumstances." Invasive?
