'Well that was interesting' Keiryann thought as the blue dragon bearing him into the Weyr came from Between, 'I wonder how the supplies get here if here is it similar to what the Southern Weyr does?' The dragon started to bank and spiral down to the bowl of the Ista Weyr. "hnnn .... the North is so different", keiryann says out of the blue as the dragon lands and the rider starts to help him off. At least the weather wasn't as cold as the stories his parents and other transplants from the North to Southern have told him.
The amount of dragons was amazing, they truly awe inspiring. The rider who brought him here had seemingly disappeared, so Keiryann moved over to the wall and took out his leather bound sketch pad and started to sketch the coming and going flits, dragons and people. 'im going to need more paper/hide to sketch on soon if its always this amazing .... luckly i have the Marks i have been saving,' Keiryann thought to him self as he was currently sketching a brown dragon resting quite a ways away. His bag was sort of discarded next to him leaning on the wall with the supplies he had for the journey.
Hopefully the North would give him something new to explore.

Veyes pushed the last cart of the meat into the kitchen and waved at the head cook. "This is the last cart, Ma'am. he said as he wiped his gloved hands down along the protective apron. It had already been a long morning and he was good and ready to get himself cleaned up. Today had been a mess of scrawny herd beasts again. He wondered why the Weyr put up with such poor quality meat but then again he had heard when thread finally came the Holds would change their toon. At least, if he ever had to go back to the farm, he wouldn't be the one to give poor quality meat. Good quality fed more, and in actually was less of a herd loss on the part of the farm. However, he doubted he could make other farmers understand that.
So in his state of mind he shrugged off the protective gear and dropped it into the kitchen laundry. Thankfully, he wouldn't have to wash this; the women would take care of it. Leaving the Kitchen he hurried along and slipped outside to the bowl. Lately, he had taken up a new route for going back to the dorm because ever since the Lice had shown up in the Weyr he avoided large crowds and touching others too much. Since L'thor had taken him Between to take care of his Lice problem, he was determined not to let it happen again. For now, he had smoothed some oil that L'thor had given him into corn row braids that he done all over his head. It made it easier to inspect his scalp and the oil would help repel the lice.
But as he wandered he saw someone he didn't recognize and by the look of it he was new. Another one? Wow...the Weyr was going to be bursting if something wasn't done. He glanced around as he walked wondering where the ride was that brought the boy and shook his head. Probably just like that other boy, he thought...dropped off without any escort to help him to the dorm. Well, at least with this one he might be able to save him the embarassement of going into the girls dorm. He shuddered at that thought and was happy he had not done the same thing.
So he stopped just short of the boy and looked down at the hide. "Hey, you're new here right? Ya want me to show you were the dorms are or is the rider that brought you coming back?"

Keiryann looked up from his sketch at the voice. " oh hmmm .... yeah im new here, i doubt the rider who brought me here is gonna come back .... ya'll are very busy ..... " going quiet again he packed his sketch pad back into his bag and hauling the bag up easily on his shoulder he looked down at the shorter boy, though most where shorter than he at 6'1"
straightening out from the wall and gesturing to the other to lead "after you as i have not a glow where to go ... unless its off the side of the bowl" chuckling very slightly at his own odd humor..... ... letting an awkward silence linger for a bit asks "how long you been here?"
((sry if these are rather short ...))

Veyes nodded a little. It seemed common place for the riders to drop and run. Most...well...some had other duties; others weren't good with kids and some well some just didn't want to deal with it. However, most of the time it seemed that someone in the Weyr would help the newbies get put into place. He wasn't sure why the system worked that way but it seemed today he was the "fortunate one" with that duty.
"Ah...ok...well it's this way. Mmm...I'm Veyes. I just got here a few sevendays ago so I know some about the Weyr. The riders just tend to drop off people. I got lucky and the dragon rider who brought me here has become a good friend." he said as he took him into a cavern. The walls were smooth and the ceilings high but this path was pretty quiet considering how crowded the place was. Right now though many were doing chores, classes or in flight formations doing drills. It made the place almost peaceful...
He smiled a little as they moved down the halls. "They just had the touching not too long ago. So there should be a hatching pretty soon. You might be lucky to arrive when you have." Just thinking about the opportunity made the pit of his stomach churn just a little. His dreams and his goals were aligned in the same direction but when he looked at this new guy, maybe he should have felt a bit of jealousy because here was another person to "compete" against for the honor. However, as L'thor had explained it to him, it really didn't seem to matter how many other showed up. In the end, it was the dragons that decided. Maybe he would get lucky...maybe not.
As they walked on...he paused, "Oh...but a warning about the Weyr. Right now there is a lot of Lice around so you'll really want to be careful so you don't get any."

"im Keiryann" realizing he hadn't introduce himself looking at Veyes rather apologetically and nods in greeting...... he listens to the information that Veyes is giving him. He actually would like to meet this nice rider ... possibly see if he was truely a canidate and to learn more ... he always back in the South learned all he could, when he could from anyone. "your rider sounds very kind ... ... if you and he are up to it would mind introducing me to him ... if not .... oh well "
Lice? ... oh he had heard of it though they never really had to worry about it in the south as everyone was so far from each other .... well hed have to use the tips he once heard hi mother talk about ... " that must be fun .... as packed it is right now ...."

"Nice to meet you Keiryann." Veyes responded as they turned down a hall and finally ended up at the dorm. Looking around at all the full bunks he sighed briefly. "It might take a moment to find a bunk for you. We're pretty full in here. Just look for an empty one...there may be one in the back. People sore a lot here...unfortunately. Oh...also keep in mind the route I took here because if you end up in the Girls dorm down the other hall, you might get into trouble. The Candidate Master won't be happy and you'll probably get more chores than you would ever want." Fortunately, he hadn't experienced that sort of trouble but he heard of others who had.
"Mmm...yes...L'thor is great. Well, at least I think so. He's a green rider and probably out on formation drills or something. I suppose I can introduce you to him at some point. Next time I see him, I'll ask him. I've got another friend around here named Conomor. He's a candidate too. But I bet he is still doing chores. I have an early shift because I butcher meat in the meat locker for the Kitchen. I'm not sure where you will get assigned but as soon as they know you're here, you're going to find yourself really busy."
He leaned against the wall to let Keiryann find his bunk, "So where are you from? "

"hnnn i perfer to sleep in the back ... thanks ..." Keiryann looks around the back of the dorms and finds a place that is rather small but not as bad as he has ever had when on boats ...
This man ... no rider sounds interesting, "Its always good to know those in positions you wish to get to .... and are older." keiryann say .... thats from his experience at least in the south and with sailors.
then the dreaded question of where he is from, so he replied ".... Southern ...." and then he waited for the questions and such to begin, many still do not consider southern a true hold and think its odd to be living there.

"Yes...It's good to have a mentor. But they will send you to Candidate Lessons so you can learn about the Weyr and its etiquette. They'll also teach you how to act at a Touching or Hatching so you'll be ready. If you impress a dragon then you become rather important and move up to Weyrling lessons. At that point, you move from daily chores to full time learning how to work and live with your dragon." he said as he thought about L'thor just a little more. Soon, his friend would be teaching him the proper way to make riding straps and he had a feeling that would really help considering his first design had been lacking. Of course, he would get a lot less sleep trying to add these extra lessons in but he was going to make sure he was ahead of the game.
Veyes tilted his head as he watched Keiryann pick his bunk, "Mmm...Southern? So what is it like there?" He really didn't have much of an opinion about the place considering he had spent most of his life on the Farm and rarely got out and about to hear the rumor mill. In fact, the most he had ever heard about Southern was the from the basic education the harpers taught at Ruatha Hold. Seemed so long ago to him. "Well people come here from everywhere...so I am not surprised that you are from so far away. This Weyr is packed with people so you might get lucky to find others from Southern here."

"oh where are you from Veyes?" Keiryann asks storring the information away to go over later. He is excited though to do heavy work as the last few sevendays he had not done much at southern .... mainly fixing of nets and gutting fish ... and fixing sails.
"Shards! .... i hope we have some heavy work ... im dieing to do some work ... darn nets where broken tha last sevenday as well as the currents being bad ...." looking over to Veyes ... "............. so what does one do when not doing chores? are their beaches to go to or are we Weyr bound?" He was beginning to like the other boy ... he was nice and not annoying like most people where, as well as rather intelligent on the Weyr which is very helpful.
"where would you think they would put a former seaholder in the chore assignments ?" he asks earnestly

"I'm from Ruatha Hold. It's known for its Runners mostly. I come from one of the herd farms there." He laughed when the other got excited about hard work. That was almost refreshing compared to some of the others he had met except for maybe Conomor. Most folks didn't seem to understand his diligence to his chores. In fact, many he had seen would probably do anything to get out of a lick of work.
"Oh...there's plenty of work around here and some of it is heavy but I usually don't deal with fish so I really don't know what they do on the beaches around here. I haven't been down to the beach yet but L'thor promised to take me. Many of the chores are about keeping the Weyr running...like Kitchen, Cleaning...Washing...Stable work...I think you'd have to ask the Candidate Master where he'd like to put you because some folks do a variety of task. I normally am on butcher duty because I grew up on a herd farm...and know it like the back of my hand."
He paused for a moment and thought about the next question, "Umm...well when there is time, I try to learn more about what to do with dragons or play migsy. But some folks, they go look in the crack to see the eggs...sleep...gawk at girls or guys. I don't think Candidates go to far from the Weyr without a rider at least while there are eggs on the sands because you don't want to miss the hatching."
After that his brow furrowed, " I'm not sure where they'd assign a seaholder. To be honest, I don't know much about what a seaholder does of a day." That bothered him just a hair to think he hadn't really a clue. It wasn't something he had been exposed to but he was rather curious to learn more. "What sort of chores to seaholders do?"

".... ive heard of Ruthra Hold ... my Mother and Father are from the North originally so iv heard of most of the Holds and Weyrs ..... whey where from Fort and Ista but they where one of the first to go South ..." Keiryann ponders ... then grins at the stating at work to be done, "bless the eggs .... i was getting hold fever (cabin fever XD) not being able to do much with the currents and equipment damages, and the Main Hold didnt need me to do anything ... i figure its kinda a draw back to being outside doing things all the time that when you stop and are kept indoors ... " Keiryann lets the statement slide.
" well we seaholders whom are old enough wake up before the sun rises and go out to the docks to ready the ships and then usually sail out to put out nets or bring in nets .... fishing .... though that sounds easy its far from easy and very heavy work ... then when we get back we have to unload the fish, repair the nets, gut and clean the fish and many other just maintenance things.... of course i was also contracted by the Main Hold to explore and gather rare plants sometimes ..... pity i never could get one of the flit eggs from the clutches i have found ..... eventually .... i might get one ...." Keiryann realizes that hes been talking alot .... that is very unusual for him .... he typically is the strong silent type of person. "......... i prefer to learn or sketch during my off time then gawk at people .... enough time for that after the job is done ..... besides if you wait the unworthy are usually weeded out by then ............ " Keiryann grins slightly at that and playfully nudges Veyes in the shoulder .... then turning somewhat serious to Veyes, "well seeing as i have no where to go or anything to do ... do you mind if i play the lost puppy and follow you around till im told what to do?"

"Sounds sort of like farming...We get up before the dawn as well to take care of the herd, fields, and tools. Lots of maintenance and little free time. But at least you get to travel. I hadn't seen outside of the farm except for the hold for most of my life."
"Well, there's a lot of flitts roaming around here so I bet if you watch for it someone will be rising soon enough but I am not sure what anyone is selling the eggs for. I haven't heard of any clutches to buy from since I arrived." He paused for a moment listening to what Keiryann had to say then continued, "Well, I guess...right now, I was headed to the bath when I found you because after working in the meat locker it's hard to run around the Weyr without attracting every single flitt under the sun. But after I wash up I can show you around and then show you where Candidate lessons are."
He walked over to his own bunk and got out his clean clothes then headed into the bathroom with his washing supplies. But even before he ventured in he was very careful about the things he touched since the Lice hadn't been totally gotten rid of yet. "I'm going to wash up so you're welcome to look around the bath or get your stuff settled in to your space. The curtain over there you can pull around your bunk for privacy but it don't block out the snoring...unfortunately." he sighed with that thought and slipped into the bathroom. There he stripped down and hung his clothes on hooks before stepping into the pool to scrub.

"..... yeah they do sound similar ...", Keiryann says, "oh well the main hold was always where looking for those whom didnt mind going into the wilds to explore and getting dirty trying to get to rare herbs, so i would do work for them when healers up here need things ...... so i know iv been where few have been and have helped expand the maps some ...."
"i doubt i have the marks for a flit .... oh well i might get lucky one day ...."Kieryann shrugs
"shells you didn't have to delay your bath for me ... go ...... ill settle myself here ..... make sure there is no lice on the bed and such ....." Keiryann says as Veyes moves to the bathroom .... chuckles at the snoring statement ... as snoring doesn't matter after years of being on ships Keiryann puts his bag on the hanger for jackets and such and inspects the bunk for lice and other critters, luckily there is none so he sets his bunk up. waiting for Veyes, Keiryann takes out his sketch pad and draws the bunks as they have a cool angle and view ....

Veyes took his time in the bath considering he wanted to make sure that his scalp was clean. He didn't want another case of lice because even though L'thor would help him out he wanted to be sure he didn't abuse that friendship. He really liked L'thor more than he was willing to mention out loud. Of course, that was another issue he still hadn't figure out how to address in himself so he pushed the thought aside and pulled on his clean clothes after a close inspection.
As he walked out he noticed that Keiryann was sketching. 'Find something good to draw?" He tucked his cleaning supplies into his trunk then walked over to the door. I'm guessing you want to see the rest of the place? What do you want to see first? The eggs through the crack? The kitchen?"

Keiryann was so involved with getting the details of the sketch and the lighting that he never heard the drape to the bathroom move nor did he hear Veyes ... that was until Veyes spoke. looking up quickly Keiryann replies, "oh i guess i was just sketching the other bunks .... ehehe" *scratches the back of his head*
"hmmm i wouldn't mind seeing the eggs as i have yet to see them ... then kitchens .... or where ever you need to be ... .... ill tag along, that is if you don't mind" Keiryann says then kinda goes quiet, standing up with his sketch pad and sketching tools he moves to where Veyes is and proceeds to follow him where he leads .... though Keiryann makes sure to draw a small map as they go .... better safe and know the layout ... also its the sailor/explorer in him, you always chart/map where you are and where you are going .........
