Why Does Elias Need A Spark? Elias is a homely sort. Early to bed, early to rise. A hobbyist, if you will, with very few passions, though none as prominent as his thirst for progress. This longing includes not only building and understanding, but researching past and present - researching everything. It's all that matters, really, that and his inventions.
Elias craves knowledge, from the origins of his planet to the basic functions of human life. The more he researches, the more practical information he has at his disposal - perfect for the feverish inventor. There are a few tiny problems - a limited lifespan, a knack for forgetfulness and people. Elias is unsure of people - he doesn't quite trust them, nor does he think they would understand him. Makes it somewhat difficult to find a research assistant - and a woman who will care for him.
Elias needs someone whom he can trust within his home, whose every aspect and will is of his influence. He needs a perfect companion who will venture out into the world, gathering the traits, personalities and minds of others and relaying this information to him in a safe and relatively secretive environment, hidden away from the sun and those scheming citizens of Vargash. He needs a strong, able-bodied creatures to bring home piles of books and spend long hours in silence, reading and writing and noting anything of practical importance. That is his need for a Service Spark.
But there is a longing deeper still - a want that a Social Spark could fulfill. Elias wants to be loved in a way his own Parents never dared. He wants a friend, a confidant, a companion. He wants her to be smart and loyal and understanding - aware that she will always come second to his work. She must comply to his specifications 100%...and who knows, perhaps he could really fall in love with her.
It's the researcher, who will hurry his work...or the lover, who will care for him as he alone lives his dream. 1. Why? Contents 2. Contractor Elias 3. A Hermit's History 4. Essentic Lore 5. Influences 6. Roleplay 7. Other 8. Other 9. Other X. Other

...Contractor Elias Name Elias Gerard Carmine Gender Male Age 29 1/2 Weight 175lbs Height 6'0" Hair • Absinthe Green • Medium Length, Shaggy Eyes • Pale Blue
Physical description Elias stands at an average height of 6'0" with his weight bordering on 175. While he isn't necessarily fat, his under worked form is rather soft and lacking definition. True to a hermit's nature, Elias has alabaster skin which is somewhat sensitive to the mid-day sun. A pair of pale-blue eyes contrast muddy green hair, which shags haphazardly beside either ear. Uncharacteristic of his usually placid mood, he entertains a near constant frown and deep set brow creases.
Personality Despite a rather sordid appearance and near-constant loneliness, Elias is a content fellow. He enjoys tending to plants and tinkering with his clocks, both of which are the only activities which can wipe the slanted frown from his pale face. He harbors an insatiable urge to discover how and why things work, and will take apart anything he can get his hands upon, be it a clock or a car engine. He wants to understand the obscure and the ancient, so long as such things still have a practical use. Despite his curious nature, he is not at all interested in theories and concepts unless they somehow benefit him - for example, he would show little interest in the development of a 'miracle' fertilizer as he already commands a natural ability over plants.
Elias is a homely spirit and prefers life within his own hovel, aloof of the outside world and it's inhabitants unless he happens to be studying them. Regardless of his preference for independence, he quickly becomes bored and has many hobbies to fill his time. Though he is somewhat anti-social, Elias finds it easy to interact with others when he must, his only fault being awkwardness and a lack of trust. He tries, and fails, to be completely rational, often exhibiting signs of stress and worry. When overstressed his usual placidity shifts into irrational and argumentative behavior, a blunt tongue and panic attacks attesting to this trait. He is good at following through on a project and terribly stubborn when it comes down to it. Overall, Elias is internal, curious, independent and uncomplicated, wanting no part in confining commitments with people in the outside world.
Hobbies: • Repair, specifically Watches and Clocks. • Inventing, mainly unusual little items for home use. • Creating 'Flower Clocks' from old Watches/Gears/Parts. • Gardening, specifically Poppies of the Somniferum variety. • Researching - anything and everything he can possibly read.
Other important notes, quirks? Elias has a particularly annoying nervous tick, he takes to wringing his hands in social situations. He also commands an innate ability over plants and other such organic materials - he can aid their growth, bringing a seed to a sprout with a single touch. He seems to radiate an energy which plants find nourishing and they bloom for him like the sun. Speaking of the sun, he loathes it - makes him terribly ill. He will only venture into daylight for the most important of errands.

...A Hermit's History
History/Backstory Brought up in a similar fashion to most of his peers, Elias' father was a self-worked 'scientist' and his mother was a writer. He grew up rather poor due to the rarity of energy expenditure for his father's endeavors and general disinterest in his Mother's poetry by printing companies. As a child, Elias was home-schooled and kept away from his peers. His mother was quite overbearing and his father looked down upon the locals, seeing himself and his kin as genetically and logically superior. In short, his parents were somewhat loony.
Elias was not allowed to play outside and, out of sheer boredom, took to his father's study, getting into machinery and tinkering about like children often do. Encouraged by his unusual father, Elias dwelled in science but found his passion in inventing, often creating simple objects to make life easier for his impoverished family. Bouts between his parents often left Elias in the dark, and he soon learned to entertain himself. Cracks in the floors brought up weeds from time to time - his first experience with the outside world. A single touch had a brown, wrinkled weed turned forest green and ripping up floorboards. At first his parents were terrified by this unusual ability and attributed it to radiation or other such dangerous concoctions to be found in Mr. Carmine's lab. Before long it was just another reason why Elias was not allowed outside - they claimed the other children would hurt him. That he was strange.
In order to keep him occupied, his Mother allowed him to keep a small garden box in the attic and something of a wood shop in the basement. Upon his 15th birthday, and despite the warnings of his parents, he came to long for an outside life - heavy influenced by his budding interest in the females he saw walking down the street day after day. His desires were quickly met by panic attacks and over dramatics from both parents. And so, Elias was kept inside, talking to his plants and engaging in mechanics, never really knowing what the world was about or how one's parents should treat them. He read many books and soon learned the joys of research. Eager to fill his mind he spent many hours in his Mother's quaint bedroom library.
As his father put it, his Mother worried herself to death in her 40th year. Not long after, his Father took ill, leaving the family home to his only child - Elias was finally free to do as he pleased...but now he seemed to prefer things inside. So many years hidden from the sun have given the man a terrible reaction to natural light.
