AKON is in Dallas, right?
I'm never particularly interested, but my friends go all the time.

Hrm. I think AKON is here, but I don't go to cons, so I really wouldn't know. I've heard of AKON, something like "Icky-CON" (might be "IKKICON" or "IKICON" for all I know), and a couple of other cons that some of my friends have gone to, but some of them are in Austin and Houston and I don't keep track of which ones are where.
*some time later* Just checked, yeah, it's in Dallas. It's actually called "Project A-Kon" and I also found out there just so happens to be a rapper named Akon... And Project A-Kon is the oldest North American anime convention still being held. I might actually go to A-Kon if they had a steampunk theme one year, but until then I have no interest in going.

Pretty much the same way when it comes to MOST conventions...
I got to about 3 cons a year. Two are local, one is in Georgia.
Cookie for anyone who can guess which con in Georgia I go to biggrin

Anime Weekend Atlanta? Okay, I googled, so that might be cheating. I've never been to a convention in my life, though back in high school I would have given anything to go to one. Lost interest after several failed plans at road trips to Houston and San Antonio for conventions, plus constantly being dirt-poor and broke. At this point, I wouldn't bother going to a con unless someone paid for the ticket, the travel, and the hotel/accommodations. Or if there was a big steampunk event, or theme.

Nope, DRAGONCON~
It's planning on having 35,000 people this year c:
I can understand that as well. I'm lucking that I'm going because, I traded my PS2 for payment in tickets (Sold the PS2 for tickets...didn't want the PS2). Friends who are driving me and paying for my part of the room, which in return, I'm getting them a gas card. And I'm bringing my own food so I don't have to pay a lot for that.
Gas Card = 100 Tickets = "Free" Food = 100 (May bring more) Spending Money = 300-500. Odds are I won't spend it all, but you never know. May buy a corset there or steam stuff, always go prepared.

Argh, my girlfriend is pestering me to agree to go to some Dallas convention in September. The only excuse I have to say no is that it's $40 per ticket, but we get to mooch off some friends for a ride and a hotel room. We'd still have to buy our own food/snacks while there, and I don't think it will be much fun if we don't have some spending money to buy some overpriced goods.

There's no Steampunk in Texas. Trust me... it's void of any decent culture But Project A-kon does happen every year in Dallas and random Mini A-kon's happen in libraries in the small town Denton I believe
