Well ,decided to ask here as I know this right up the alley of steampunk.

Every year my dad does a haunted forest with his sportman's club. He runs the section where he play a mad scientist. We got several old flasks out of a freecycle box that we plan to fill with various dyed water to make a chemical set.

I figured I would do a part and ask here for help finding a few tutorials.

We already plan to make our own Ol' Sparky, but what I"m looking for are tutorials on Jakob's ladders, possibly a van de graf(sp?0 generator if we could make one, MAYBE a fake Tesla coil we could make spark somehow, as I imagine a real Tesla coil would be expensive and or too dangerous for that purpose.

Hmmm.. A tesla coil wouldn't be too hard to make. User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Just a wooden box on wheels with a large piece of PVC pipe. Spray the pipe with a bit of primer and then a layer of colour. Then a bit of enamel or lacquer to give it the shine. Everything else could easily be sculpted out of foam or clay. Though the foam would be a lighter alternative.

A site with a few lightning lights.

Hmm, that could work. I was also thinking of that type of device with the multiple rings and the sphere o nthe end.

Hmm. Well, at craft stores, they have the foam wreaths that could be pegged together to give it the multiple ringed look.

I could see that working. As for the lightning you could attach one of the lightning lights to give it a bit of a show.

Not a bad idea, a strobe light may have a similar effect.

A little bit. But not as effective. A lot less expensive though. With the plasma lamp, or even a plasma tube (which the site I linked earlier has) does give the effect of real lightning.

HMm, I was thinking that would be better. If I can get a mini plasma sphere I may experiment. A trip to a thrift store or flea market andm aybe I can find soem old guages and stuff to add in.

I know you can find those on Ebay.
Ebay Gauges Something that may look neat would be the cooling coils from the back of a refrigerator. You can find those at dumps or in newspaper adds or even craigslist. There's always stuff that doesn't work that can be taken apart for neat parts on craigslist.

Nice. I'd love to have a metal detector. Like you said, thrift stores are a wonderful place to find strange and neat stuff. Just recently I found a very lovely oil lamp. I just need to get a glass top for it.

Nice. I've been looking at my local freecycle group. Mostly I'm finding clothing, but I'm still looking for stuff that I can make steamy.
