Time: Early afternoon
Weather: Sunny and clear

"Sera, don't run ahead!"

A little girl, barely three feet tall, stopped and turned around, bouncing excitedly on her heels. She pointed behind her. "I'm gonna meet you at the door!" Before her father could reply she turned and dashed towards her destination, slapping her hand on the concrete pillar that marked the gates of the park.

The park! Nothing could make the day better! Her daddy had the day off to spend just with her and they were going to the park!

Willis stumbled behind, trying to hold back the excited puppy at the end of the leash he held. Aesop was akin to a small, fuzzy monster - and a horror to try and keep moving in one direction. He reached the park gates only slightly out of breath. "Sera, you mustn't run ahead like that when we're on the street. Someone could... well, I wouldn't be close enough to stop anything bad from happening."

Sera tilted her head down, her hands moving behind her back as she gave a small nod. She didn't really see the fault in running ahead... her father had been able to see where she was. It was best to humor him when he was scolding her, though. It made him feel better. "Sorry."

"Good girl. Now," Willis smiled, patting Sera's back to urge her forward. "The park is a safe place. Go ahead." Seeing the smile blossom on his daughters face as she was set free was worth the trouble it had been to get this single day off to spend with her. With a shriek of joy Sera took off at a run, romping through the short cropped grass.

With a sigh he walked Aesop to a bench and sat down to watch his daughter play. The puppy spent a few moments exploring every inch of ground his leash would let him reach before finally flopping down in the shade, tongue hanging out in a happy canine smile.

The sun was shining.

A rather mundane fact for most, but not for the green-clad man as he strolled out into the park searching out a good spot to lay out a blanket, and sunbathe a bit. He'd brought a basket as well, with a bit of a snack to go with his solar 'lunch', and a bottle of cold wine as he found the taste of grapes irresistible. He picked out a good spot, laid out the blanket, and set his things down, careful to keep the bottle upright. There was actually a decent spread; he’d brought enough for several people, even though the amount he usually ate was generally less than that of a singe human.

Can’t hurt to be prepared, can it… The sun feels so nice today…

He sat down, and saw as a small family came in through the gates, a man, a dog, and his apparent daughter. He smiled as he lay back on the blanket, his eyes closing. A stray leaf or two sprouted out from his limbs, on long, spindly rose vines.

Faolan wandered down the street, casting cautious glances about. It had been awhile since he'd had a day off from the carnival and this city had enough interesting pursuits and sights to keep him mildly entertained. He'd noticed a park ahead and thought to walk through it, perhaps finding a mark for a little spending money.

There were quite a few people there that day, but none that quite stood out in that "con me!" sort of way . . . until he saw the man on the bench with the puppy. Faolan followed the man's gaze, seeing that he was watching a young girl (possibly his daughter? At least he hoped so.) and idly made his way over to the bench.

"Nice dog," he said as he approached. "What sort is it?"

"Hm? Oh. He's an akita." Willis gave a small tug at the leash, causing the fuzz-ball to lift it's head. The puppy was a caramel tan and white in color, it's nose tipped pink with a stray fleck of black. He scooted politely to the side, making more room for the other man to sit if he wanted to, glancing back out to check where his daughter was.

Sera was entirely preoccupied with the shrubs and trees. She was pretending to be a wanderer, making her way through a jungle in search of treasure. With a stick in hand she slashed at any stray vine or leaf that was in her way, daringly fighting back some unseen foe.

It took her quite by surprise when she found a rosebush. This wasn't at all like any of the other shrubs that dotted the park - nice, safe green leafy things that wouldn't hurt if someone stumbled into them. It was actually rather pretty. Sera ran back within sight of her father - ignoring the fact that he seemed to have some new company and shouting out to him, pointing back towards where she'd made her discovery. "There's a rose bush here!"

A frown of worry creased his forehead. Willis made a polite gesture to the stranger as if to say 'Excuse me a moment', then cupped a hand around his mouth to amplify his voice. "Okay! Remember to look, not touch!" He turned back to the man, giving a sheepish smile.

A little girl’s voice rang out, something to do with roses…Elst slowly opened one eye, realizing that in his relaxation he'd forgotten to maintain his human appearance. His other eye popped open as he realized just how relaxed he’d gotten.

That teaches me for getting too comfortable, I practically look like some sort of human topiary, if human at all...

He shifted slowly, shuddering as his vines on a large part withdrew into his skin. There were still a large number of roses blooming from him, accompanied by even more leaves, but he’d at least made himself retain some sort of human shape. He looked down to see the owner of the voice that had woken him up, hoping he hadn’t frightened her. He spoke, rather levelly;

”Oh, um, sorry about that, my vines got a little out of hand… They like the sun.”

He recognized her as the girl he’d seen earlier, and accordingly looked over at what he assumed to be her father, as he tried to put on a sort of haphazard grin.

Nodding at the man's words, Faolan took quiet note of the wealth of the man. He sat on the bench beside him, startled a bit by the child running up toward them, then more so as the "rose bush" she'd been crowing about suddenly changed shape into a man.

With all the sideshow attractions in the carnival, Fao had thought he'd seen it all, but here was something new and interesting. The con he'd been devising to pull over the man on the bench was slowly ebbing away at the curiosity he had for the plant-man creature. "You must do well with the ladies, being able to grow them a dozen roses whenever you choose to woo one, eh?"

Sera looked up... and... up. The 'rose bush', it seemed, had moved. With a small frown she put her hands on her hips. "Why'd you move?"

Willis' face was a mask of pale horror, though not by the shrub that had taken on a man's form. He stood up, taking a few steps toward his daughter and the new stranger. "Sera! That was rude! I'm so sorry, ah. Sir." He ducked his head apologetically.

Sera let her hands fall to her sides, looking up at her father with a scoff of exasperation. "But! He was the treasure!" Her tone of voice said it all - she should NOT be the one getting in trouble here! She looked towards the other stranger, a man with horns who was looking on. He looked like a man of adventure, surely he'd understand and say something, right?

Elst blinked a few times, trying to de-fog his brain a bit, and nodded towards the man with the horns.

"Yes, I suppose it's rather nice... But as you can see, it's a tad difficult to keep them in check; they sneak up on me like this whenever I get distracted."

A small part of him wondered if the man was somehow related to the other two, but he doubted it, as he'd not seen him walk in with them. He turned towards the now rather pale parent, smiling.

"Oh, no, it's quite fine, how's she supposed to know me from a rose bush when I get like that? It's probably better that she woke me up actually, if she hadn't who knows how much more the roses could have taken over. Terribly sorry if I startled you, any way I might make it up?"

His grin faltered somewhat as he thought back on how often he managed to get in situations like this.
I really need to contol myself a little more, I could seriously scare someone at this rate...

Fao took it all in stride, settling back in an easy sprawl on the bench. The kid was definite a cute one and she had a "I know everything ever!" streak that he rather liked in little girls, so long as she stayed in too-big-for-her-britches-princess mode and didn't go headlong into being a brat. He leaned forward, giving her his best charming grin. "You like treasure do you? Let me find you some to make up for the loss of roses." And with that, he did an impressive, if somewhat common sleight of hand, seeming to pluck a coin from the child's hair just behind her ear.

He turned his attention to the plant-man, nodding. "Must be hard to manage sometimes, I imagine." Truly the green creature held his curiosity and he wondered if the plant-man ever ran the risk of becoming rooted to the spot.

Willis shook his head. "Oh. No, no. No harm done. I was more concerned weather or not might daughter might have said something rude, is a-HALL!" The last portion of his final word came out as a startled shout. Aesop had decided he was bored of standing still, lunging toward what was apparently a rather tasty looking squirrel. It took a moment and both hands for Willis to manage to stop the determined puppy. "Sorry."

Just behind them Sera gave a sudden exclamation of delight. She reached forward, clasping her small hands over the stranger - and the coin he'd produced from her HEAD. "You're magic!" Instantly she huddled closer to the stranger, looking up into his face as she continued to hold onto his arm by the wrists. "My name's Sera Alexandra Damont! What's yours?"

Willis, who'd half turned so he could watch this small interaction, gave a small wince as Sera started to try and crawl all over the man. She'd only just met him! "Ah, yes. Introductions. I'm Willis. This of course, is my daughter, Sera." The fond, gentle smile that played over the older man's face as he introduced her spoke volumes of his affection. A tug at the leash caused him to look down. "Ah, and Aesop the puppy."

Elst's grin widened as he watched the girl's excitement over the magic trick. He turned back to Willis, struggling puppy in hand.

"Oh, no worries, uh, Willis, Sera there did nothing rude. And if she wants roses, I suppose I can't compete with magic ear-money, but I can grow a few for her..."

His eyes narrowed slightly as he concentrated, a small bouquet of pink and red roses now in hand. He severed their stems, lowering them to where the young girl could get to them. She seemed a bit preoccupied with the coin trick for the moment, though.

“It’s not like I’ll be running out of them any time soon…”
He said, his eyes returning to Willis’.

“Might I assume you got little Aesop there rather recently? He seems pretty excited, looks like he hasn’t had much time getting used to the outside world.”

Fao knelt down to be more eye-level with the girl, letting her keep her hold on his wrist. He was completely besotted with the child, grinning widely. "My name's Faolan Grady, but you can call me Fao, if you'd like, little one."

He remained oblivious to the other two men for the moment, his attention focused on the little girl and entertaining her with tricks and other amusements, the performer in him shining through.

Willis had to push his glasses up the bridge of his nose, smiling at the kindly shrub-man. "That's very kind of you. Both of you." Barely met and these two strangers seemed like good, decent men to him. "You really may not believe me, but to be honest Sera doesn't usually take to strangers like this."

He gave a little chuckle, leaning down to pat the canine's lop-eared head. "Yes, I'm afraid he's not even completely house-trained yet. He was a birthday gift for Sera, to keep her company."

"He had a ribbon around his neck. I kept it and wear it in my hair." Very gradually Sera was weedling her way into Fao's lap - if he'd let her, that is. "Do you know anymore magic tricks? Can you make me disappear?"

Elst nodded vaguely... a quiet suspicion nagging at him, saying he forgot something...

"Ah, not even housebroken eh? Still a great present to get her, I know of nothing that can keep a kid happier. Hopefully he hasn't started shredding your things yet? Oh, nearly forgot, my name's Elst, by the way. And Sera, you might want to make sure he can make you re-appear, don't you think?"

He was quickly warming up to this newfound trio, more so than he did for most people. He held his grin.
