The sun accelerated high into the cloudy sky as the morning turned into a noon; the air, warm and moist with great humidity, suffocated the stallion as he finished the first part of his daily morning routine: devouring fresh grass -and the ocassional flower- until his stomach was content. Now, he was headed towards a small narby pond that he frequented to wash down the lingering taste in his mouth.
Pace set in a slow gallop, he breathed in the saturated air, taking in the earthy fragrances with mild joy. Oh! How he love this small homely area; it was all for him! It was perfect, made just for him. Afteral, never had Shikoba once spotted another horse trespassing on this specific point of his 'territory.'
Finally reaching the pond, he stared with mild disgust as the usually perfectly still glassy surface was now infected with buzzing life forms. Mosquitoes. He snorted and moved away from the still body of water. Mosquitoes infect his pond. Oh, what could be worse?
Shikoba moved away, mind running on ideas of what to do now. Find another body of water? Bathe in the little amount of sunlight lazily?

 Boring.
That's what today was. It was warm and humid, a nice change from the scorching desert weather she was used to. But it was boring. So today, the mare Nabooru had decided tp venture out of the sand lands for some refreshing water and food. She loved her desert home, but with summer well on the way, the (few to being with) resources there were vanishing fast. And there was the fact that there was nothing to do.
So out of the canyon she cantered. There ahead appeared to be a good plot of land, wouldn't take her too long to get there she figured. Grass and perhaps a nearby pool to drink from. The lands were still partly dry, but it wasn't half bad---plus she didn't want to travel too far or she'd be tired, hungry and thirsty on her way back home.

He reveiwed his choices silently and decided to just wander around. No harm in that, afterall. And if he found another pool of water, he'd quech his thirst there, but as of yet, there'd be no such thing. Shikoba smiled pleasantly to himself, pushing away the experience from several minutes ago and moving on to his next activity.
Moving at a slow pace, the horse admired the small shoots of grass and other plants growing to the sides of him, the ocassional tweetering of a bird as it sang its song, the rustling of a bush as the wind tickled its sides; such beautiful scenes! All for him! And inch by inch, he seemed to come closer to the mouth of the canyon, where he was able to spot another horse swiftly. It was not going fast, a simple canter, but it made the muscles in the stallion go stiff.
He had thought this day would have gotten better, and it WAS getting better from the point of seeing the bug infested pond to the wonderful movements of nature, but not anymore. He glared at the sillohuette that seemed to be nearing him, a dark shadow placed on the sun's side. My home, my precious sanctuary! Overtaken, discovered by others! he mourned to himself silently. Eyes glued to the figure, Shikoba didn't bother to move anymore. Whatever it was would eventually discover him; until that happened, he's bottle up his anger and wait it out. He didn't mind if he had to wait hours, anythin to get this intruder out of his home!

Nabooru continued her gait all the way up to what appeared to be some fresh grass and a pond---the very same mosquito infected one. Discusting. She was used to having to take what was given to her, so she ventured a sip. She didn't stop to think if she got any---well, y'knows. Quickly turning and moving on to the grass, she'd just lowered her head when she noticed there was someone in the distance. How could this be?! She was always so alert and aware of her surroundings! How long had the figure been watching her?! She jerked her head up so fast that her high ponytailed mane practically whipped her own face. "Who's there!?" she demanded boldly, "What do you want? You're apparently staring at me!" she shouted.
She wasn't afraid. She stood her ground to let the stranger know she was strong, she was bold and tough and fearless. Well maybe not fearless in the face of absolute danger but in the presence of a stranger---she was courageous. It would have to come to her for confronation, that was a right matter.

By the sound of the voice, it was a mare. Well, that wasn't too bad. The worse that could happen would be that they'd get into a heated verbal arguement. He approached her slowly, his soft red hooves probing dry ground carefully. She was an interesting sight to look at. Never had he seen a horse with a ponytail, similar to a two-legger's... "I'm here. Jeeze, open your eyes and you might see better," he replied sarcastically, rolling his green eyes. "I was 'staring' at you because you're on my territory. Mine. No right. Trespassing. Understand?" If she didn't get the message, she'd be hopeless.
His body was lured towards the mare to get a closer look. After being several strides dostance with her, he looked at her closely. She definately was interesting looking, he decided. "What's your name, hmm?" the horse asked though he shared little interest with the femme. Perhaps he could scare her away and be content, enjoying the rest of his day. We'll have to see, Shikoba thought silently to himself.

"I understand territories, stallion" she replied sharply, "I was simply unaware I was wandering in to one." She thought for a moment then laughed, "Y'know, if everyone's living plots of land were forbidden to enter, everyone couldn't travel anywhere? I really don't think anything give's you the right to wholely claim a particular spot of land..." She tilted her head up to attempt to return the intimidation factor. "I am Nabooru, the desert dweller. I am from the very desert just beyond that canyon over yonder" she announced, tilting her head in her home direction as she'd spoke.
"Summer is approaching the lands and for the desert creatures, that means no food or water resources. Surely you could share some of yours rather than force any others who might be of the desert region to scavange farther than here?!" she continued, pursing her lips as she awaited a reply. If he was rude and uncaring, there was going to be at least a verbal fight.

"Stallion? Haha, close. Or not. It's Shikoba," he replied crudely, flicking an ear in irritation. Great, a small debate that would mount into a fight in no time. "I like this land. It's perfect. I'm not willing to give it up." He gazed down at the ground, studying his hooves. "It's not even THAT much." He mooved his eyes towards the canyon. "Either way, it seems like my best source of water was infected by those pesky bugs. So unless you want to drink that kind of water..." He stopped himself. Why was he even talking with her? She would just give excuses like 'we won't survive' or 'we don't have enough food in the desert!'
Of course there was other life here. Rabbits, birds, foxes... The list could go on. But that didn't matter to her, did it? So what if all the desert people came and dried up all the sources for the original habitants here, it didn't matter. They'd survive and move on. Right? He wasn't sure if he was accurate, but that's what he believed would be the cause and effect of openly wlecoming her with an outreached hoof. No, I won't do that.
"Well, I'm not the only one that lives here. If you bring yourself and your herd-if you have one-and all of those desert critters, that'll just ruin my home, won't it? They'll hunt the animals here, they'll take all the resources. Then you'll go to the desert, happy and smiling, with me frowning, standing there by myself thinking I made the most stupid mistake in my life. Isn't that right?" His anger level was rising. "So no, no. I'm not gonna let you," he said sternly, glaring at her. Shikoba didn't care if he was being rude, it was his home. Not some stupid desert dweller's. Either way, she was being kind of rude too, in his mind.

Men. Did they ever really listen? "I said 'any others who might be of the desert region.' If you'd listened better, you'd have deducted that I don't know anyone else who lives there! There's other minor creatures, like snakes and rabbits, but they have an easier time in the blazing sandlands than I do" she scowled, "I am Nabooru---a lone wolf, I have no herd. You're not gonna get a flood of horses after your---infested water."
She snorted to herself. She really didn't want a fight, but she was so annoyed with how he was acting. It was utterly rediculous. He was such a childish brat. Suddenly comming up with an idea, she giggled deviously and closed one heavily eyeshadowed eye. Smirking she added, "Oh Shikoba, it might get mightly lonely out here...I mean, how many exotic mares come around your lands anyhow?" she asked, winking. If this route didn't work she was quite sure she might try and clobber him for his ignorance.

"Shut up. Ehh, ignore that," he replied, attempting to block her out of is vision. Just pretend she wasn't there. It was a careless mistake, he just misheard her. Jeeze, women. Always correcting him over everything. Acted like the world was ending. It didn't really change much though. "It doesn't mean you won't just go and find a herd.. And how do I know if you're being truthful? You could be lying." He sighed. "The mosquites will go away. Eventually. Soon. I hope. So whatever."
She then changed her attitude. She pretended like the previous conversation never took place, winking playfully at him. NOW what was she trying to do? Flirt with him? He felt uncomfortable, his cheeks flushing with color. It wasn't so bad with Kintori when they flirted with each other -- Heck! He was the once that started it, but this seemed slightly different. Flirting for a gain. And he was expected to be stupid and giggle and not even realize it? He wasn't THAT gullible, or dumb for that matter. And he could be pretty dumb at times. He felt pretty irritated. Take a deep breath. Calm down. She doesn't realize that I'm not so stupid; I have some brains. I'll prove it. I'll get her out of my home. She'll be flabberghasted!
Shikoba shook his head to get the bangs away from his emerald green eyes; the male stared at Nabooru, emptying his face of emotion before replacing it with a dull, clueless expression and then answering [as calmly as he could], "I dunno. Been awhile I guess. Why?"

"I can be some creative company" she smirked, "Don't take me for a whore, I'm just a whole unique kind of fun." She flicked her ponytail and pranced in place a moment. "Do you really like being a loner?" she asked, "I do like my independance, but at times---isn't company more enjoyable?" As Nabooru said it though, it made her think. Maybe she should come out of her own solitude for good. Live somewhere more fruitful than the barren desert. Although she loved her home, maybe some acquaintances or...even friends...would be a new spin on life.
She wansn't too sure this particular stallion was up for that kind of thing. She would have to see if he had a heart bigger than she was currently giving him credit for. Friendship didn't seem on his menu. xd

A small smirk flickered his face for a moment when she said 'whore'. Haha. He turned serious automatically though; doubt haunted his features as he watched her with apparent unease. She was trying hard. She was a loner like him but now, she was tempting him. This wasn't fair! Women were like little devils at times! She might play with his heaart and then leave him... Then what would be do? Laugh bitterly and say, "I told ya so. I shoulda listened to my gut." He shuffled his head and sighed.
He thought over what she said carefully, deciphering the truthfulness laying in her small speech. He couldn't really figure it out. Why would she want to be his company? There was friendly stallions. Well, he had some obvious options: deny her, accept, or wait and think it out a little longer.
"I like my company from time to time, but not...Well, honestly...." he sighed. "Just not generally horses I guess." He grunted. "But why should you care? Isn't your home the desert? Or did you change your mind and decide that now this should be your home?" he glared, but it was slightly softer and gentler; if he liked it or not, she was starting to win him over.

"Well, it would be nice to be somewhere new for awhile. But I still love the desert" Nabooru smiled. Her eyes narrowed deviously in return. "Surely there's some nice compromise that'll make everyone happy in the end" she continued, "At least, there could be. I could totally be something too good to pass up." Adding another wink at the end, she wondered where the, most likely now confused, stallion would take it too. She was, well---bored, so anything lively was good to her at the moment

"I doubt your presence will make me happy." Shikoba replied coldly; he cocked an eyebrow upwards at her wink. Such a strange mare..., he thought silently. "...But whatever. Do what you want. For now. I think I'm going to g-go on a walk.." He needed to get away from her; she left him feeling flustered. Not good. As soon as he felt flustered and confused, he wouldn't be able to think straight and would start making poor decisions that he might-and probably will-regret. He turned around and away from her, starting to go in a slow gait away from her. Would she follow to bother him some more? Shikoba huffed with frustration. He couldn't completely figure her out!

Nabooru wasn't about to give up so easy. On what she was trying for, she didn't even know. But it was fun none-the-less. Speeding up to his side and matching his pace she laughed, hoping she wasn't about to make him mad. "Sorry if i've put you of, Shikoba" she replied kindly, "I'm coy, I'll admit. But I think what I'm really aiming for is getting a grump out of his shell." She giggled to herself. "Loosen up! Have some fun! Come-on, do something spontanious!" she continued, stopping in his path, "Anything! Right here, right now." She was almost childishly demanding, like a kid requesting some kind of magic trick. Her golden eyes bore into him as she waited.

He shook his head, disturbing the mane's previous state of calmness. His mane resumed its normal spot ontop his right eye. "Something spontaneous? ...Nah, that's not like me...I guess I'm just a grump. Can't have fun.." His visible eye spaced out on the horizon, deep in thought. "Well, I can. But it's the boring kind of fun. No one else would consider it 'normal' fun.." Wait, why was he telling her this? This was none of her buisness! Maybe he was feeling compelled to..
Shikoba looked into her golden eyes. Heck, she was pretty. Her bronze form decorated with jewelery and her long mane held together by being in a high ponytail... He grinned goofily, pearly white teeth perfectly visible against his black muzzle. "Nabooru... I can't see you as coy. You're too outspoken, too wild and untame." His visible green eye twinkled with amusement.
