Bloodroot sniffed at the warren exit, his mother said to never leave it unless she was with him, but he could not find her and so he had to look for her. He missed her, for a long time now no one had slept beside him and told him stories as she had done; nor helped him find the pretty purple flower he liked so much; thistle she called them.
Turning his ears he listened for any danger, but he only heard the talk of others how the weather was a little rainy looking today; and how the daisies were blooming now. Bloodroot did not know what a daisy was, but the other spoke about liking them and he wondered if he got piles of those; would his mother come back?
Slowly he crept from the warren to be greeted with a gray sky swollen with rain but still the sun shone through enough to light everything and make it easy to see. For a minute he sat there, staring at the huge open world with some amount of fear in him. Was it always this big, this dark and cold?
He pushed forward however; ears back against his body as he slipped out into the open grass and soon lost himself amongst the taller shoots. While he was crawling he found a thistle, it was so pretty and bright that he had no wish to eat it, instead he sat up and stared at it, dew drops tuck to its small petals like jewels. The flower was as big as he was but he still had to look up to see it, and then he kept there and just stared silently.

Teasel sat contentedly chewing on some clover that she had found. She absolutely loved how the rain felt on her fur and how dark everything became during wet weather. It felt, peaceful.
Looking around her briefly, she noticed a small copper and black kitten sitting on his own. The sight made her feel annoyed, as it made her remember that she herself would be a mother soon with kittens of her own; a thought she had been trying to ignore all day.
She grumbled to herself as she watched the kitten and sat up, looking around for someone who might be his guardian. She couldn’t see any rabbits that seemed to be associated with this kitten and that made her even more frustrated, “Marli’s these days! Letting their kittens wander all over the place defenceless” she mumbled this to herself, before hopping over to the kitten and looking down at him, “Excuse me, where is your mother?” she asked firmly, looking around them some more in case the doe he belonged too was just doing something nearby, and perhaps she had overlooked her before.

Bloodroot was having fun watching the flower, it was pretty and every time a drop of rain fell on it, it flung the water away like a rabbit’s ear did. His own flicked every now and then, water didn’t feel so good getting into your ears after all. A sudden voice had him jumping and twirling around to face whatever it was, his back foot lifted to hit the ground only to stop when he saw it was another rabbit. He looked up at the doe; eyes watching her before he looked up to high to see her eyes that he fell backwards and huffed as the air was knocked out of him. Embarrassed he set himself right and cleaned his fur briefly before he readied himself.
“The others said she followed the black rabbit, but she would leave me alone and I waited but she hasn’t come back so I went outside to look for her.” He cleaned his ears nervously, he had not yet gotten the hand of cleaning himself but he was getting close. He looked back to the doe his blood red eye watching her blankly and solemnly, perhaps she had seen which way his mother went. “The black rabbit must be mean if he has been talking to my mom for so long.” He glanced backwards at the purple flower again, watching it dip lower and lower as water gathered in it’ petals before finally the water dripped off and it snapped back.

Teasel felt her anger towards his mother subsiding as he spoke to her, though her frustration was now directed at the ones who told him of the black rabbit and did nothing to help him, “Who told you that she followed the black rabbit? and when?” she looked into deep into his eyes as she spoke, still using a firm tone of voice “and do you have a father or any other rabbits who look after you?” she hated how her body was dealing with this situation, normally she would have just dismissed the kitten after that, his mother was dead, and that was that, but she could feel her motherly instincts kicking in and while she loathed how soft it was making her, she just couldn’t leave this kitten out here with no one to keep him safe, “I’m Teasel”

Bloodroots ears fell, she was angry but to what he didn’t know. Looking around he tried to find danger but he saw nothing; was she angry at him? “One of the Hlessi who came with mommy, he left; umm he told me six suns ago?” He had a hard time counting very high, he got numbers confused with other things and the numbers always never came out in right words. “No, I don’t know my daddy mom didn’t know either.” He watched the doe in front of him, wondering if she would chase him away. “I’m Bloodroot, the Hlessi named me because mommy ate Bloodroot when she was pregnant and killed my litter mates unborn.” He did not understand that either, till he thought of the new name he learned; pretty. “Why are you named Teasel?” He questioned in a soft voice as he rubbed his ear nervously.

When Teasel learned how long he had been left alone she sat straight up in surprise, “Embleer Frith, you’ve been alone for that long!?” she shook her head, trying to stop herself from yelling any longer, in case he became afraid of her, “Listen Bloodroot, your mother is not coming back” her tone had changed but it was far from a sweet and loving voice. Teasel knew if their rolls were reversed, she would want to know the truth about what happened to her mother, so she believed Bloodroot deserved no different, “The black rabbit came to take her, it was simply her time to go”
As he asked her about her name she frowned, her mother had told her that tale many times. About how Teasels were her favourite flower and how her eyes were coloured just like a Teasel, but thoughts of her mother, like most things, made Teasel feel angry and miserable so she wasn’t keen to talk about it with anyone, least of all this kitten, “My name’s origin is not important, what’s more important is trying to find someone to take care of you. The world is a dangerous place Bloodroot, you will die if you have no one to look after you”

Bloodroot nodded in response, wondering why that was so bad, after all even when his mother had been around she hardly played or spoke but at night to tell him stories. He trembled a bit, his back foot itching to hit the ground in warning of danger but he held fast knowing it was unlikely the doe would hurt him at all; he was just angry at something or another. When she said his mother wasn’t coming back; he stared at her unbelieving of what she said; his mother always came back. As she explained it though, his ears dropped; so it had been ‘that’ black rabbit. “So I have no mother.” He trembled again, his large red eyes even larger as his trembling caused his fur to be even messier then it already was.
Hi mind was quickly jumping from one thought to another, but he soon quitted his trembling and just stood there in the rain his eyes going back to that purple flower that now was buckling under the heavy rain. “Why, doesn’t everyone else already have a family to take care of?” He listened often to chatter and talk, silently watching and just learning. Teasel was going to have kittens soon herself and she was not the only one and it wasn’t even the true breeding season yet. He also heard talk of the Warren being overcrowded and that doe’s were going to start having trouble producing kittens if they didn’t branch off to start a new one. Why would any wan to take him in, he could get by on his own after all, he was the son of El-ahrairah; he would be fine.

Teasel frowned, she could see Bloodroot was upset by the news but he was dealing with it much better then she had expected, “You’re strong for someone so young” she moved closer, nudging him slightly with her nose to comfort him, “Some of us have families already, or little ones on the way, that is true…but I am just appalled that nobody else has even approached you about this!” her tone had become sweeter, but there was definitely still frustration in her voice, “So you have nobody who can care for you? No friends or relatives of any kind?” she shook her head, preparing herself for what she was about to say next, “If you really are so alone, then I will take it upon myself to take you in, and look after you until you are grown” By this point Teasel was in no mood for arguing, and she was determined to keep Bloodroot safe weather he liked it or not.

“Strong?” He lifted his hind leg and stretched out so that he could see it better as could he perhaps, for he was not strong. “Not strong, fast though.” He smiled sweetly and wiggled his toes before standing correctly again though the nudge had him moving a step and looking back to the doe Teasel. “No, I don’t have any of those.” The most friends he had was the flower that was breaking under the rain as they spoke, he could eat it now he could even reach it himself. His attention turned back to what was at hand and he caught what the doe had said, for a minute Bloodroot just stood there but he smiled happily after awhile. “Really, you would take care of me?” He had to question it, Teasel was going to have kitten of her own; he was just giving her a chance now to change her mind.
He was mall and scruffy, bad at fighting like the other kittens his age; but he was fast and good at thinking but then that was all he seemed to do, lost in his own world. He was not so scared of the things that he should be, but he was not foolish enough to stand still should he see a threat. He was strange even to himself, wondering what he would do when he was older was a question so big he could not truly start to think about it now. “I can always try alone; I’m sure if I stick close to group I would be ok.” Maybe was left unsaid, but it didn’t really need to be said as he was quiet sure she would think the word already.

Teasel moved closer to Bloodroot, and tried to change her tone to something more sweet and motherly, though this behaviour was very unlike her, “Yes of course I will” she put a paw on his head and began cleaning his ear, “There is no way you are living on your own any longer Bloodroot. I would not be able to sleep knowing you were trying to make it on your own” she thought what she was saying sounded maternal and caring, though it may have come across differently to the kitten. In truth, Teasel didn’t particularly care what he thought of her at this point; she just knew that Lord Frith would want it this way, and she must do all she could to help this kitten survive.

(Sorry it's two days late for when I get home, I had to dump everything in my computer and I didn't have a single thing in it not even an internet thing but it's better now though I lost a lot of things important. Sorry I am not active on the weekday but school is over on the 22'nd yay!)
Bloodroot looked at Teasel as she said she would in such a manor he was very tempted to believe her all for what she promised, the thought of being alone again was a dull one anyway so what better then to be with someone who said he could be with? “Ok, I promise to be good though.” He looked up at her with blood red eyes as his ears were groomed and a reassuring paw rested on his head. The thistle had now broken under the rain ad Bloodroot chilled as the rain kept beating down on him slowly creeping through his fur. “How any kittens will you have, will they be my siblings as well?” In a sense he knew all rabbits were family; all of them from the line of El-ahrairah. “Do you think they would like stories?” He had lots of stories; many were of El-ahrairah and his tricks, but somewhere of his compassion and even the Prince of rainbows was kind in a few and not trying to hurt El-ahrairah.
He liked stories, he thought of those as something very important but then he meet many rabbits who did not like stories as he himself did; so that was why he was asking Teasel. If she did not like stories, then maybe her kittens would not either; and he wanted to be of use to someone.

Teasel was deep in thought, too busy cleaning him to really be listening properly, “Yes, that’s fine” she said, not one hundred percent sure what she was agreeing to. She just couldn’t believe she’d offered to take on yet another kitten when she had her own on the way. It was just so unlike her and she blamed her newfound, bizarre, motherly instincts completely.
As she snapped back into reality, she caught his questions about her kittens, and shook her head slowly, “I don’t really know how many, I suppose it will be a surprise for us both hmm? Of course they will be your siblings, if you want them to be” the following question about telling them stories made her half smile, “I think they would enjoy that”
She could see him starting to shiver from the rain and she poked at him with her nose, “We she get you inside soon hmm?”
