((So I'm feeling like I want to play my raven - get him fleshed out before he gets any larger. This is a thread open to anyone who owns a Bird. Come and give me company, damnit, else I'll be a sulky D. ))
The black bird landed heavily upon the top of the Birdcage. It was a familiar shop, one he often frequented. That was where the sparkling one habitated, and where his boy had been found.
Everything was much better now. Something was right for once. All of a sudden, everything was a little brighter, a little better. Together, they could both be free.
Preening some of his glossy feathers, the big bird hopped forwards on the cool roof. His beady eyes looked carefully around, studying the horizon and the overall emptiness of the roof. That was fine by him. Who needed company, anyway?
It was a lonely world, and birds only managed to complicate things. The sooner a creature realized that alone was all they really were, the better. Even together, with bonds and friendship, it was nothing more than multiple lonely people whom happened to be in the same spot at the same time.
This dark one enjoyed being alone. It gave him time to think.
Hopping forward, he pecked at a few loose, scattered seeds. He much preferred carrion and road-kill, but the streets had been clean. His Boy didn't have much in the way of raw meat - but if worse came to worse, he could always find a few choice morsels with the sparkling one.
Meat was always on hand when it came to him.
Craaaaaaaaaaaak.
Silence.
A few more hops. Craaaaaaaaaak.
The black bird looked around, his call going out to the world. At least everyone knew this prime perch was his. His "threatening" call would keep them all away.
((Ok -- if you feel so inclined, fellow Bird, go drive my raven crazy with company. ;P ))

Here, the raven got some company. The woodpecker, dubbed 'Woodie' by his silly human counterpart, fluttered his frame over by that glossy bird. He'd never been a big fan of the raven Gaurdian... the other was so very elitist it made his figurative teeth hurt sometimes.
But eh. Even though the other didn't want his Shiniee boy, it made sure that his Shiniee boy remained his own Shiniee. He liked his shiniee boy, whether or not the raven approved.
They were alone on the roof... That was something weird right there. His mottled head tilted to the side as that thought ran through his head and a trill left his throat.
Where's the sparkling shiny one? Shanuh - the sparkling shiny one - was always there, wasn't he? Oh yes he was... Hopping up, shifting from one clawed black foot to the other, beady eyes switching from the raven to the rest of the rooftop. Another soft chortle, feathers poofing up in the manner that kept him happy.
And yes. He knew he was probably annoying the raven - but he didn't care. Oh, no, he didn't. He was just here to let his Shiniee-boy relax a little at work and do his job properly.

The black bird looked over at the smaller, multi-coloured woodpecker. Personally, he had no problem with any of his fellows - he just preferred to stay thoughtful and a bit more cautious then some of them.
Some took life way to seriously, and the raven occassionally fell into that habit. But what else could he do? He had to be careful. All of them did. Life was hard enough without being foolish and downright stupid - which, in his opinion - some of them were.
But there own life was their own affair. Far be it for him to tell them what to do. All of them had one thing in common - to live. And each could choose to live their own way.
Bobbing his head, the introverted raven gave a little whistle and craaaaak. He was certainly a vocal Bird. I'd imagine he's elsewhere he replied, feathers ruffling in mild amusement. Perhaps he's inside with my Boy? Or perhaps he's away, drifting like he tends to. Either way, he's not up here with us.
The raven didn't truly mind the company of others. He merely tended to keep things to himself. Aloof, in a way, he preferred watching others than interracting himself. As it was, he kept himself mildly detached from everything.

All was momentarily silent at the rooftop of the Birdcage until the soft fluttering sound of wings heralded the arrival of yet another bird. An Altamira Oriole.
With his new companion Aura currently stuck at home and buried beneath the assignments that her teacher had given her in school, the orange and black bird had decided to explore the town on its own in the hope of spotting something for him to learn more about. From the clear blue sky overhead, it was easy to spot the 2 birds that were presently perched upon the roof of the Birdcage. Creatures that the oriole recognized almost immediately as entities similar to himself. All of them may possess bodies that caused them to appear no different from the species that had exclusive privelege to the skies, but they still retained the uncanny ability to recognize one another. At least for the moment.
Chirupping brightly in greeting to both the raven as well as the woodpecker, the oriole landed gracefully upon the metal roof, his little head turning this way and that as he surveyed his surroundings. It hadn't been too long ago when he had been a frequent visitor of this same roof. A lost creature looking forward to the day when a soul worthy of his companionship would come along and give him a chance to shine. He had been about to lose all hope when Aura came along that fateful day, almost like an answer to his calls.
Of course he might have ruffled a few feathers during the course of his frantic attempt in rescuing her from his fellow guardians that day, but who could really blame him? It was something that those who had found their desired companion could possibly empathize with.
Good day... and how are the both of you doing..?

The raven tore his beady black eyed gaze away from his current guest as the oriole arrived. Such a bright creature - and almost as hyper active as the hummingbird!
Ruffling his feathers a bit, the black bird continued with his preening. Feathers required so much upkeep and care, even when not molting! He wasn't arrogant or conceited, not really. This bird just liked keeping himself clean for health matters.
There were some birds who were ridden with ticks and fleas and little ants and insects of all sizes. Sure, tasty treats on occassion, but pests nonetheless. This was one Bird who didn't want to look a fright! Still preening his feathers, the common raven gave a little whistle in greeting.
Hello he replied quietly, sparing a look for the vibrant coloured bird before looking back at his feathers. I'm doing well, I suppose he answered, not giving much thought or futher detail to the question. This bird wasn't one to talk much, and though he didn't mind the company, per say, he still preferred to watch and listen than talk.
Chit-chatting and idle conversations really weren't his thing.
But, if he must he must, and he wasn't going to be rude. Not yet at least.
Looking over at the woodpecker, he wondered if the shiney-obsessed creature was going to speak again or not. Shaking out his feathers, he watched as some loose down slowly settled on the ground around him. Well - at least he wasn't so itchy!
Stretching out his wings, the large bird glanced over at the oriole. I trust it you are the same?
Part of the raven didn't really care - but it was a polite thing to do.
((Introverted and a little jaded, perhaps, but he has manners. Good birdy.))

((Yuppers... he's a good birdy..! Nice job on the recent growings by the way..! whee ))
Spotting a lone seed lying forgotten not too far from his right, the oriole hopped over to pick up said object with his beak, his head tilting from side to side so as to study the seed itself before he finally let it fall into his already open mouth.
Details that he hadn't bothered himself very much with in the past. It was at times such as this that he could go back to re-explore whatever he had found new and interesting the past week or so at his own leisurely pace. Something that he had not the luxury to enjoy during his previous 'life' and thus, he made every attempt at ensuring that he indulged in it at the moment. Everything else could wait in the meantime. That was what he firmly believed.
The seed turned out to be delicious. Not as wonderful as the sumptuous treats known as apple jelly that Aura would offer him whenever he caught her on a good day, but it nevertheless tasted good for a seed.
Good to hear that...
The oriole offered in response to the raven as tiny beady eyes scanned the rooftop to see if he would be lucky enough to chance upon another seed again. Nothing, unless one counted the loose down that was slowly settling on the ground around the raven from his preening.
The colour of those feathers intrigued him some though. They were a nice colour, almost like one could lose his soul just by the mere action of staring at them for a good minute or two. Maybe he could have a better look later. Somehow he didn't think that the other bird would tolerate his sifting through them in front of him, even if it was to satisfy that neverending curiosity of his.
Well... I suppose that you can say that since you're still here.
Came the oriole's reply as he returned the raven's gaze with an amused one of his own before going on to elaborate what he had meant.
The birds... they're not stupid. They can sense who we are even though the humans can't...
