He woke up at half past five, as he always did, internal alarm ringing his body to semi-consciousness.
He stretched, as he always did - a yawn and a snort and a lackadaisical tensing and relaxing of sleepy muscles to work out the stiffness. Subtle movements.
This morning was comfortable, as so few of his mornings were. He was warm, the heat under the blankets providing a lulling contrast to the slight chill of morning air, calling to him to slink back under and snooze for a few more minutes.
Hm. Tepin must've crawled back into bed with him, again; his senses started picking up the even breathing and movements of another. It was becoming a bad habit, but it made him feel important - he'd start being stricter about it, later.
But...something was off, he realized, eyebrows furrowing. His other senses were telling him more; the scent wasn't the same, the sounds weren't the same. He opened his eyes. The bed, the room, most certainly wasn't his.
For a minute, he was confused. He wasn't in his home. Where was-
He remembered, and it definitely made him want to burrow back under the sheets - out of embarrassment. Yes, dig under there and never see the light of day again. He couldn't quite explain the flutter in his stomach; a strange twist of pleasantness and discomfort.
So that meant...
Curiously, he rolled over, expecting to see the face of Quinn--
And saw a stranger.
A yelp, and he jerked in recoil, claws flashing out to scratch and scrambling back, falling off the bed in an ungraceful heap and blankets tangled around him.
The perfect way to start the day.

Quinn's first thought of the day was 'Ow! A scratch!' as his eyes popped open. His second thought was 'Wow, I feel awesome!'. His third thought was 'Ohhh. I remember now. I scored with Vale. Damn, that was fun!'. His fourth was much more vocal.
"What the hell? Ow! Ow! That ******** hurts!" He brought his hand up to his face and rubbed it. "I mean, I know you scratched me several times last night, but leave my face alone, okay?" He realized Vale had fallen off of the floor, and he rolled over to the other side of the bed, glancing down at the frightened kitty.
He felt energized. Really energized. He had never been this awake this early before.
"C'mon hon, what's wrong? You're just being silly. Get back in bed, or it'll get cold again." He shivered. "And you have all the blankets! I'm all exposed and cold. Get up here." He reached up to scratch his chin.
And felt hair.
He usually shaved it all off. And he distinctly remembered shaving it the day before. This seemed...styled? And then he noticed his arms. The feathers were huge. Much larger. And also, he was...longer. His whole body had grown. Yes, he thought with a smirk, his whole body.
He had been right. 'A growing boy needs his rest'? That seemed like the key sentence. Quinn sighed, and tossed his legs over the bed, jumping up immediately and turning to the mirror he had on the wall. He was amazed.
Damn. I'm....Hot.
He grinned, and turned around, showing off his nude body to himself. His tattoos had morphed, as well. What had before been doodles done by himself seemed much more tribal, much more permanent.
He looked at Vale on the ground again, and slid down to the floor, putting his hands on either side of Vale's neck and his knees on either side of his body. He grinned wolfishly. Unbeknownst to him, showing newly grown fangs on his front teeth.
"Well," He said, "That was fun." He let himself fall down all the way to a laying position, on top of Vale. He realized something, and it made him incredibly happy for no particular reason.
"I," He paused, as if this was an amazing statement of his superiority and deserved to be inflected as such, "Am taller than you."
He paused again. For a long time. He didn't feel finished.
"So there."
That was it.

"Quinn?"
He almost couldn't believe it. Almost, but not quite. He recognized the scent now, and if that didn't clue him in - the colors and his ridiculous attitude were more than enough, not counting the torrent of words pouring out of his mouth.
He hadn't realized; he knew about the first age jump, but he thought that Ciro - Ciro probably hadn't been that much older than him, if the same thing happened.
His ears flicked back in sadness.
They flattened in agitation when Quinn made himself all too known by settling down on him.
He scowled.
What.
"V'hat?" he growled.
No.
That was not happening.
It was. It was happening. He was a good two inches shorter than the other boy, now - a terrible, dismaying reversal and cruel joke in Valeriu's world.
Grunting, he used his feet to power himself out from under Quinn, scuttling back in disgruntlement and more than a little bit of embarrassment.
Not looking. Not looking - at all. He took the sheets with him, carefully wrapping himself up in some sort of strange toga. With a jolt, he sat up, remembering--
"I have to get home," he reminded Quinn. Had to get home, get showered and dressed, make sure his two little princesses were doing fine - it was a Monday, he had work soon, too. Twisting the sheets between his hands, he leaned forward to kiss Quinn on the nose.
It was strangely hesitant - somehow different, much like the first time they had hugged or held hands. Less comfortable now, and making him blush like mad as he scowled his normal frown. He wasn't sure if he liked this feeling in his stomach, the sudden intense awareness of closeness, on a whole different level from the paranoid whisperings of his instincts.

Quinn couldn't help but giggle. He grabbed Vale as he stood up, pulling the covers off of him and tossing him on the bed, pulling Vale in for a much more intimate kiss than one on the nose. He, obviously, did not feel quite so awkward. Especially with the way he was pressing his body against Vale's.
It was almost strange. He felt so powerful. It was as if gaining two inches on Vale made him feel much more full of himself. Which he totally needed, of course.
"Tepin is a smart girl," he muttered, not letting go of his prison-grip on Vale. "She can take care of Sydni. And I'm sure the babysitter slept over with them; you'll just have to pay her more than usual when you get home." He lifted his hands up to Vale's ears, scratching them and running his hands through his hair. He knew what he had to do to make Vale stay. He was such a kitten.
"Annnnd, I feel like trying out my new body. You know, seeing if it's any stronger than my younger one." Quinn knew what he wanted. He felt absolutely amazing already. What could be wrong with once more?

Valeriu was not pleased with the way he was getting manhandled by a teen who used to be unable to even drag him up the stairs. It was even stranger, reconciling those actions with this man before him - older, and stronger, and taller (goddammit). He remembered thinking he never wanted to take on Ciro or Fish until he was at their level, and to realize Quinn was at that level...
It left him uneasy. This wasn't even ground, anymore.
But, something like this - and he was all too willing to kiss back, soaking in the feeling of ear scratches with a hum and purr of approval - it wouldn't come to that, would it? He wanted to tell himself that.
However, now, responsibility called, no matter how much Quinn might whine and push. Biting the other godling away for the moment, he rolled them back over, stealing the sheets back with an exasperated growl.
"Hn. I have v'ork, too," he reminded him again. "And Tepin and Sydni are bound to be v'orried. Last night," he couldn't say it with a straight face, nor could he look Quinn in the eyes without dying right then and there, "v'as not planned."
He was determined; relationship or not, he wouldn't shun his duties.
"V'here," he tried, blushed, tried again, looking around on the floor, "v'here are my clothes, anyway?"
He was not going to run across the street clothed in sheets if Quinn's room had eaten his clothes.

"Uhm." Quinn stated. He looked around. "My room kind of has a history of stealing clothing. And food. And small children. And never letting them see the light of day again. You can look, if you want, but if you're leaving me then I want to go to bed!" He laughed. "Actually, I do want to see Sydni again, and I need a shower too." He began pulling on his new green shorts, which fit just perfectly now; the growth overnight had made them the right size.
He slipped his belt on, then paused before he put on anything else. He decided that was all he needed, and moved on to grabbing a bag of espresso beans and shoving them in his pocket for later. He looked around for Vale's clothes, and honestly couldn't find them.
He looked sheepishly at Vale.
"I have some clothes that you can wear 'til we get to your house, I guess." He looked down at himself. "They probably don't fit me anymore, anyway. Now, c'mon, let's go get cleaned up and play with the children." He grinned. "My clothes are in the closet. You can pick something. But," he paused, "I warn you. Most of the things in there are colorful."

He snorted, moving as well as he could to the closet with the blankets covering him. It was more of a shuffle, really.
"I v'ear colors," he grumbled, opening the closet.
Which was really an unwise thing to do without some sort of protective eyewear.
He flinched, turning away, squinted and peered back.
It was all so bright. And small. Really small. And Quinn had already been smaller than him - even the baggy stuff--
He groaned, cursed his luck, glared at the room in hopes that it would spit out his clothes, and roughly snagged some of the less horrifying things from the closet. He changed even quicker.
The faster they got to the other side of the street, the better. He didn't even bother with shoes, grabbing Quinn by the hand and dragging him down and out the door.
"Come on, before the neighbors see this," he muttered, picking at the shirt morosely. Plus, shower, breakfast, happy smiles - those were what he wanted right now, even if Tepin and Sydni were more than likely still asleep. Once he got breakfast going, they would be awake soon enough.

Quinn let himself be dragged, too busy giggling at the other boy wearing his clothes. He looked cute. Out of his element, yes, but cute. He followed Vale into the house.
He saw the sun as they crossed the street, and was still amazed at how early he had woken up. This never happened. And to be so energetic! The morning was new for him. But it was with Vale. And he bet Vale would make some sort of breakfast, too! Mm, breakfast. He needed some food.
When they got inside, Vale scampered off to do various things he didn't really care about. Quinn decided to busy himself with a few basic tasks. Firstly, he wanted to find the sweatshirt Vale had given him that he had given back. He thought he probably deserved it, now. He ran upstairs to Vale's room, and looked around for it. He spotted it (Folded neatly, of course) On some flat surface he didn't really pay attention to, and hugged it to his chest. He wasn't going to give it back again.
Jogging back down the stairs he set the jacket on the coffee table so it would be ready when he left. Next task, wait for Vale to do something interesting so that he could use a mischievous plot to seduce him again. He plopped down on the couch and stretched out.
He hoped Sydni would still recognize him, mostly. And that Tepin wouldn't squash him in the manparts thinking he was a new guy again.

This was routine by now. Something Vale could be comfortable with.
The babysitter was upstairs, still asleep; he could hear her quiet snores. Sydni too - but Tepin?
Tepin was...
He followed his ears. It wasn't a long search; he found the girl, sound asleep and curled behind the couch.
He felt a pang of guilt; he really should've stopped back in at home. But he hadn't known where the night would lead - he never did, when it came to Quinn. Gently, he picked her up with nary a jostle, quietly ascending the stairs to tuck her back into her bed and let her sleep on.
He checked in on Sydni, and then the babysitter, sneaking into his room (though he didn't know why, she could sleep through anything) and grabbing a spare change of clothes, high-tailing it for the shower.
Shower, then breakfast, then smiles. After spending a night in Quinn's room, he had the uncontrollable urge to scrub himself clean until his skin rubbed off.
He refrained. Barely. And enjoyed the shower for the time being - he had to make it fast, he was already running later than usual.

Hearing the shower start, Quinn grinned. Just the opportunity he was looking for. He got up and quietly made his way over to the bathroom, turning the knob carefully and slipping inside. Vale never seemed to lock doors. He probably should have.
Quinn shut it behind him and hoped the water from the shower was loud enough in Vale's ears to keep him from noticing right away that Quinn was in there, and he quickly disrobed. Sneakily tiptoeing over to the shower, he pushed the curtain open suddenly and stepped in, closing it back.
"A shower? Good idea. I need one too." He slipped his arms around Vale from behind again, grin permanently fixed to his face. He knew that if he didn't act fast, Vale would throw him out immediately. So he did the most manipulative, horrible thing he could possibly thing of.
He gave him a tummy rub.
It was an awful thing to do, especially because Quinn was quite good at them. He had made friends with lots of cats near his house, and knew of the one thing that could make them succumb! The villanous belly rub.
Quinn did not plan on leaving.

Valeriu had been enjoying his relaxing, short shower.
Had, being the keyword.
The minute the curtain flashed open, he was jumping out of his skin, mind on autopilot. If he hadn't slipped, bumping against the wall and sliding back, Quinn would be more than short a few pieces of hair right now.
As it was, his heart was pounding louder than the shower, staring in outraged disbelief at the other boy.
"Quinn!" he snapped, growling and arms flailing emphatically, "You can't just sneak up on me like that-" the damn idiot was hugging him again, and here he was trying to make sure Quinn didn't get himself killed! "-ee't ee's dangerous. V'hat are you doing ee'n here anyway--"
Whatever rant he had left was cut off, mumbled and mrr'd and scowled as he was subjected to the tummy rubs.
Why did Tezcatlipoca have to make him part cat, for godssakes?
He gradually unstuck his tongue, realizing he was leaning far too heavily back against the fool behind him, growling regaining its rhythm and swatting Quinn's hands none-too-gently away.
"Out! I still have boundaries, you ee'diot! And this ee's one of them: out, out, out!"
And thus Valeriu did most firmly kick Quinn out of his shower, roughly snapping the curtains shut.
Denied.

Quinn frowned. This was not going as well as he'd hoped. He pushed himself up into a sitting position from the faceplant he had made on the floor, and crossed his arms. Vale wasn't playing along like he was supposed to. So close, so many times! He pushed himself up onto his feet.
Maybe it really was time to just give up and have breakfast. He was craving pancakes. He pulled his shorts and belt back on, followed by his shoes. It was pancake time.
"Uhm, Okay," He muttered, "I'm gonna go downstairs and, you know...do stuff. Possibly with pancakes. And the oven. So...You do your shower thing up here, and I'll go do that." He opened the door to the shower, closing it and promptly yelling throughout the house.
"SYDNI! WAKE UP! I NEED SOME HELP COOKING!" He yelled, and then jogged happily over to the kitchen, opening the pantry. "What do I put in pancakes? Chocolate chips! And...Flour. And what else? Uhmmm."
This was harder than he had anticipated.

Her eyes shot open-- Bloodshot, angry, red eyes glaring up at the ceiling. They darted to the clock. She did not like what time it was. Now was not the time to be yelling through the halls.
Her tiny hand gripped the clock, tugging it off the bed stand and glaring at it passionately. Now was not the time for her to be awake.
QUINN.
Each step sounded like thunder as she slammed her feet down the stairs. Her hair was a deformed mess, sticking out in every direction imaginable around her small head-- a demented halo. Her reddish-blue eyes were bloodshot with fatigue and rage.
No. Now was not the time to be awake.
“YOU IDIOT!!!” She was in the kitchen entry, clock in her outstretched hand-- just in case he wasn’t aware of just how early it was. “IT’S. FIVE. FOURTY. FIVE. IN. THE. MORNING!!!!”
Her mouth was in a large scowling frown as she glared at him.
“Why the HECK are you even here? GO HOME AND YELL!!! YOU IDIOT!!” She then chucked the clock directly at the blonde blob in the kitchen.
Hearing a satisfying clunk, she couldn’t help but sneer at his plight. Having a god of the hunt wasn't so bad after all. She’d have to thank Mixcoatl later.

He heard the yelling.
And the thunk.
And then the angry mutterings of the babysitter started up, and the sound of the front door shutting as she left to get some sleep and quiet.
And then Sydni woke up.
And started crying.
He decided his shower was ended.
First day, and it was already insane. Maybe he'd made a mistake - if he'd known Quinn would be over him even more so--
Wasn't there supposed to be a waiting period between this and that and more of that? Valeriu thought so. Evidently, Quinn didn't.
A quick towel-off, pants-be-on, and a sweep out the door and he was hoisting Sydni up to shush her, staring up at the heavens pleadingly.
"A break. Just one break. That ee's all I ask."
Somewhere, his god was laughing again.
