These lands were so different, even strange compared to the ones she called home, yet it was the forests that called her name as the golden mare slipped quietly through their shadows, welcoming her. They drew her closer with beckoning branches, their laughter gentle as wind rustled through their leaves. The wind came to her, next, and the vines draping from her body waved quietly back in greeting. The mare was tired from her journey, a bright eye gazing momentarily at the still-bright sun overhead before she situated herself against a nearby tree.

She had come here with the departure of her brother, ever his shadow despite the fact that he much preferred the night and she, the day. Despite their differences, she loved him deeply, and did not think she could stand to let him go. Ears perked quietly to listen to her surroundings, letting the strength of the tree relieve some of the weariness in her legs. So much to observe, to take note of in this new land... It was a thought that almost made a faint smile pull at her lips. What would this place hold in store for her?

Not quite so intune with nature as the Golden Mare or the man who had sent him on this quest, Chantesuta stewed, his dim mind clicking almost audibly as he worked his way to the woods on his latest quest, 'Head to the land of the walking woods, and bring back a lock of hair from its keeper.' Lord Tulgey's quests are so... So... Difficult. Where exactly is 'the walking woods'?

The brown Stallion snorted shaking his mane free of twigs, he was so deep in spiraling thought he nearly walked right past the Laurelin. He then froze as he passed, Walking woods keeper... This women has a tree on her back!

He looked over, Rather pretty, its a shame about the tree though.. mn. Once again, a radient beauty was given flaws in his own eyes, Though, her coat and hair is quite radient... And she may help me with my quest!

Smilling politely, he bowed, "Ah, greetings my lady -- I almost passed by, thinking you were but something in my minds eye. Are you a spirit, my lady, or just as beautiful as the ones of legend?"

Sure, he wasn't sure if it was true with that wood of hers, but then Spirits was a broad term, though many were thought to be beautiful. And, except for the tree that made her work for his quest, she was rather radient.

She'd been so busy mulling over her thoughts that the stallion had managed to slip right by her, her eyes vacant as she stared out through the closely nestled trees. In fact, it was only when the other spoke that the mare gave a start, eyes wide with surprise even as she hastily pushed herself from the tree she'd been leaning on. "My apologies," She started, distracted only for a moment by the vibrant feathers tied within his mane and the band that kept them there, "My mind was wandering." The compliment was enough to make her shift, bowing her head slightly while a small smile tugged at her muzzle.

"You are very kind, but I can assure you, I am no spirit. Merely a new face. My name is Laurelin." She introduced herself, straightening her neck out so she could better watch his face. "Are you well acquainted with these woods? They're very lovely..."

"Ah.." Making a face, Chante shook his head, "This is actually a little out of my usual areas. I'm on a quest, M'lady. I was sent by Lord Tulgey to find the guardian of the walking Woods and request a lock of hair from them..."

He paused, tapping his hoof Awkwardly, "You wouldn't happen to know of where the Walking Woods happen to be, would you? I would hate to be horribly rude and assume that you are the guardian just because of that tree you walk around with" Smooth, he thought, honestly proud of himself of how he had managed to "slip" it in, not realizing he was about as subtle as a brick, "Apparently my Lord needs it for potion in which to cure some young foal and I have wandered long in search of it. I only hope I am not too late for the youth."

"I know not the name," She started, her expression thoughtful at the mention of a quest. Walking Woods? No, she'd not been able to miss his 'subtly' of sorts, casting a thoughtful glance over her shoulder as though to measure herself up. "...I suppose I could be called as such. Whether or not I am truly what your Lord seeks, I cannot say."

A cure, he said... "What sort of cure? And may I ask your name?" If they were interfering with a natural death, Laurelin mused, she was not sure it should be prevented. She was not a cruel mare by any means, but had long been an observer in life, watching as its currents took unexpected detours from time to time. Each case was special, certainly... but would sparing the child an early death save him from being the weakest, the first to be picked off by a hungry predator? She did not know.

"I am Sir Chantesuta, from the Northwestern woods.." He bowed once more, this time fully lowering his upper body, his head swinging low

"According to Lord Tulgey, the child was poisoned by a demon, and the illness caused by it is threatening to twist the child's body and mind." Standing back up, he frowned slightly, "I have not seen him myself because of where he is being kept apart from others to prevent the demonic influence from possessing those around him, or tainting the barrier keeping him under control..."

He smiled slightly, standing bold and strong, looking confident as he puffed his chest up, "It is better to bring the wrong thing and know better then to not take, go back to find out if its the right actions, and then attempting to discover them again. Especially when one is questing on an unspecified time limit. And if I find anyone else that fits the description... I hope I could gain their help."

His courtesy was enough to pull a distant smile from her, and she gracefully returned his bow with an elegant dip of her neck. His words were troubling. A demon.... A creature of corruption and hatred, something foul and not of this world. "How terrible..." Not a fate that should befall a youngling, nor anyone. The mare twitched her tail thoughtfully, wondering.

"...You are very brave, and kind." She offered quietly, though her heart felt somewhat heavy. "I do not know if it is I whom your Lord seeks. I would... like to speak with him, if I may." Though small and slender, she didn't fear the thought of possession--particularly if it was her locks that might grant a cure to this child. And truthfully, Laurelin was curious--to think there were demons in these lands! She wanted to be aware of the signs, particularly if this was a common occurrence.

"mmn, let me see if I have everything." Chantesuta rolled his eyes up, then set down the sling he had slung over his shoulder, spreading it out to show the ingredients and a roughly written list -- obviously done using juice and a stick held between teeth, "Ice dried moss from a southern bog -- Hopefully the moss being dried in ice was good enough -- I carried it in a borrowed oilslicked leather bag with water so it'd stay wet before it was dried in the ice. A feather of a blessed Kalona -- Actually stumbled into a hybrid, oddly enough, that was part Angeni."

He glanced over at the Golden mare beside him, still not sure whether she was appealing enough to make up for the gnarled wood on her person, "Fur of a carnivorous rabbit. I spotted a hare in the desert that was actually scavenging meat from another animal's kill. Took me hours to capture it and pinch off some of the fur from its tail. And a flexable branch from a silver tree -- there are plenty of birches in the north western forest where Lord Tulgey resides, so I can get one fresh. Mnn. Looks like except for the locks of hair from a guardian of the walking woods, I am completed."

Puffing his chest out, pride in being so close to yet another successful quest, eyes bright and wide, he nosed the charm ingredients back into the sling and, using his leg to lift the strap, slid it over his neck once more, "It should be but a days journey if we travel in a quick trot. Much of what I needed was near the desert, and thus the area where the child is being kept due west, on the other side of the pass. Are you capable of moving swiftly?"

She would watch, of course, with open curiosity at his treasures that he had come to claim--all for the sake of helping a sickened foal. His intentions were clear, and though she was not one to meddle in the natural course of things, a demon was very different. She had been an observer for so long, watching predators claim their prey and knowing it was the right of things. The flow of life was very particular, and yet even she would not dare to claim she understood which path it would next take. His words had been lost on her for a moment, and the mare quickly shook her head to refocus. Moss and blessed feathers--and carnivorous rabbits?

"You have traveled far and wide for these things," She seemed to muse to herself, but quickly stretched her legs out to better situate himself at his side. "I know not the place we go, for these woods have been my home, but do not fear leaving me behind. I will keep up." She could promise that much, her eyes fixed thoughtfully on the stallion's face before they fixed on the horizon.

"Shall we go?" The soft question was ventured softly, ready to be off.

Nibbling on the pack to get it back against his shoulders, Chantesuta shook himself out before moving ahead, looking into the mountains, "If we follow the path for most of the way, keeps us off the more dangerous terrain and its a smoother rise, m'lady!"

He started off at a slow trot, warming up and making sure the mare could keep up before speeding up to a full trot, laughing merrily, "the quest is at nearly at end! I can taste it!"
