Well, at least sometime this year. I want to know what and who you think will win. What will be nominated? What do you hope loses? Who do you hope loses.

Sunday June 5th baby! The day that I make my favorite seafood dip, lock the door, unplug the phone, and sit 6 inches from the TV screen with my eyes fixed on it for hours and hours.
Yes, Assassin's was part of LAST season. It was the most awards that night if my memory serves me right. Including Best Revival of a Musical.
It is going to be a GREAT year for the Tony's! There are so many shows that are eligable for nomiations this year. I really can't say who or what will be nomitated or win because it's just to early.
I'm sure that Dirty Rotten Schoundrals and Spamalot are going win top honors though. Most of the awards will come down to those two if you ask me. ------------------------------------------------------ I had an idea for a little contest for the guild in honor of the Tony's.
What would everyone think about a little contest on who can predict the Tony winners the best?
Once the nomines are announced, a few of us, who will orgainze and mantain the contest, will assign a point value to each of the categories (higher points for the more important categories, less for the smaller ones) For a small entry fee (so that a prize can be given to the winner) guild members can predict who they think will win this year. Whomever has the most points will win a prize. Prize will depend on how many people enter and how much gold we get. And the beauty of it is that EVERYONE can enter! Even the people that are maintaining it. There is no way to cheat on it.
Anyone like my idea?

Coco Oco O.o what do you mean by "points"? I interpret it as who ever get's the correct answer will win right? Example... "Best New Musical" might be worth 20 points. If you guess the correct winner, then you get 20 points added to your score. Person with the most points wins. And perhaps another, smaller, prize to the person who gets the most winners correct overall.

Contest sounds cool!
I'm a little confused with the Tonys this year... What is the cut off date for running musicals? When I look at all the titles of current musicals, all of the musicals (With the exception of like Bombay Dreams and Brooklyn) came out in previous years. Those are automatically out because they've already been nominated. There's a lot of musicals coming out in a few weeks (Spamalot, All Shook Up, Good Vibrations, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) but can they run because they didn't come out in the 2004 season? Or do they have to wait until next year's Tonys. So, I'm kind of confused on what the cut off date for 2004 was...
If they are counting musicals coming out shortly, my money's on Spamalot. smile

Bombay dreams however, I believe was nominated for costumes and lighting last tonys.

The season is most of 2004 through the first few months of 2005 season and thought I am not sure myself on the date for the cut offs, I am pretty sure it's somewhere in March or April. No later than that though, nomiations usually come out the begining of May (somewhere are around like the 12th usually.)
Also, shows that have closed before the announcement of nomiations are usually out of the running for the top honors right away. It's rare to see shows that bomb unless they are in need of some category fillers.

Yeah, this is a bit of a follow up to my last post.
I found out that shows OPENING after the day of May 7th, 2004 are eligable to Tony nominations this year. Shows that were in previews do not count, they will have to wait another year.
The cut off date will be somewhere around that date, possible even the same.

First off, what are all the categories? This game might be kind of fun.
Second off, I'm making a couple of picks.
Best Revival--Pacific Overtures. Saw it and it was very well done. Best Actress--Eden Espinoza, Brooklyn. Unbelievable voice in the perfect role for her. Best Musical--as said, most are coming out soon, but as of right now, Brooklyn. In a couple weeks, I'll probably change that. Best Costumes--Brooklyn. Where else can you see dresses made out of trashbags and coat hangers?
