Name: Dorinelic
Age: 19
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation:Straight. If he came across a gay man, he'd most likely be utterly confused as to why they are gay. He doesn't fear or hate gays, they just confuse him.
Craft: Smithcraft
Rank: Apprentice
Physical Description: See ref. DX Because I fail at describing him well. The only difference from the refs is he is younger, and wears clothes akin to typical smiths of Pern. (Which, I have no idea DX)
Personality: His a bit aloof in his manner, the kind of person who would take the path of least resistance. He enjoys his craft and does indeed strive to become better, yet, he has a nasty habit of slacking on projects that don't provide some form of enjoyment for him. (IE: He'd be happy to do decorative work, but, for a plain knife set? He'd hardly try.) His slacking ends when he is presented with something new and challenging. Open, he may take the path that is less complicated, but, he does feel that if you don't try everything once, you're never going to get further. His nature in all of this is why at 19, he's still an apprentice, much to his father's loathing. As an only son, he doesn't like his families expectations, and would rather go his own way without them.
As for his peers, he has a bit of contempt for some of them, while others he finds quite enjoyable. For the most part, it depends on ego. If the person has a ego, chances are, Dorinelic would avoid them and if he had to be near/interact with them, he'd make it short ans sweet as possible. The only time he'd likely snap is if the person began to degrade other before him. He might not mind person comment or insult, but when he sees a person being degraded, he won't hesitate to stand up for them, (this is mainly due to his past and his own looks and skills as a child). Yet, overall, he tends to mind his own, taking care not to offend and sometimes finding a calm peace with another.
In the case of a higher ranking person he tends to listen and just do what they say, (the exception being his father). Even if the person is rude and downright cruel, Dorinelic will bite his tongue and just 'do it and get it over with'. People have to earn his respect, even if they already are higher then him.
As for group works, he doesn't have much experience in that, but, if placed in a group, he'd be quite silent only speaking up when something pikes his interest or something is amiss. He'd not above doing the more boring tasks, but, he'd rather do the one that was easy and maybe even let him work alone. If in all cases he must work with another or do the most difficult task, he'd still do it, but, he'd be less outgoing and would do the job as fast and a good as possible to end it.
This isn't to say he's antisocial. He enjoys company, but, he likes his company to be quite, and to have something interesting to say. Or, is interesting themselves.
History: Born to his family in their middle age, he grew up quite typically. His father was a smith before him, and aimed to have his son do the same. This made Dorinelic rebel in his teens, preventing himself from becoming a journeymen smith and making him remain with his father in apprenticeship. He wants to go further, but, his own attitude might just keep him from moving on. He has all the skills to become a journey, men smith but, Dorinelic just doesn't put any effort into becoming one. However, he would never trade his craft, (not just because of his age). He does enjoy creating weapons and items from metal, but, he wants to strive for something. As to what that something is, he doesn't know. At the current time, (the time he would be submitted to RP) he is going to be forced into the range of journeyman by his parents, (who think he's ready) and at this time he'd be Searched.
As to how he became candidate material, Dorinelic spent alot of his free time in childhood, (RE: 7-12), dreaming of getting away from his parents and becoming a dragon rider. As many riders would come to his father to get weapons and other items, while they waited Dorinelic would pester them with questions. He has a basic knowledge of the dragons, but lacks a formal training. He is however, incredibly fit, due to smith work.
His odd hair is from a scarring accident that happened when he was a just starting out as an apprentice smith. He had, as a safety precaution, his head shaved at the time, so as to not catch his hair on fire. But, one day, when he was finishing a small shield and carrying it to the cooling bath, he tripped and the edge of the shield fell onto part of his head. The result left part of his skull scarred, and in turn, the hair that grows is without pigment. He used to be teased about it as a kid, but, now he wears it as a sigh that he is a smith and will suffer for his work. When he does have to go out in public, he dies it using ink and ash, to appear normal.
Pets: Not so much a pet as a friendly wild animal. A small bug, (beetle) that likes to hang about him while he whittles. He's dubbed the bug 'Boot' as the insect was first seen in on his boot. Each time he's tried to kill it, the bug gets away. So, Dorinelic sees the friendly insect a silent companion that likes to buzz about and annoy him. (He has vowed to kill Boot if the insect ever gets to close, but, in a small way, he finds it slightly amusing that no matter what he does, the bug always gets away)
((I dunno. I just find this idea amusing ATM))
Other/Talents: He whittles in his spare time and is good at it. When in the main part of the hold, he likes to carve small animals for the kids. In this he's also good with his hands and can sew, abet, poorly. At best he can fix a small tear but he can't make a shirt or anything. He's also stronger then average given his life as a smith.
Will this character be a candidate? Yes
Picture: X His skin should be a bit darker like
in here. And again, as for dress, free range. He won't he toting guns or long jackets.
Forgive me if I've broken any Pern taboo or something. I have like...45% idea of what I'm doing.
