As much as Jane was useful for ferrying her about, Casia Greystone was determined not to end up depending on the postal worker for transportation. She had always depended on people for one thing or another in her life, and though there were some things that the siren still needed the newest mother figure in her life for, she was determined that the number of things she needed was going to be as small as possible. If it meant wandering around the neighbourhood for a while to get her bearings, so be it. The worst thing that could happen would be that she'd run into a stranger, and if really threatened, Casia's high scream could break glass.
So apprehensively but determinedly, Casia made her way to the deli where she and Jane had met Shiraz. She didn't have much money on her and she was only sort of hungry, but that wasn't the point of the trip. The point was to prove she could make the trip without the use of a car.
Deli in sight, Casia sped up. A dizzy rush of victory reached her head as the warm and vaguely familiar smells rushed at her with the opening of the door and she slid onto a stool at the counter. She didn't need Jane! She didn't need anyone!

"Can I take some home to Ricky?" "No, Todd, this is people food and Eli doesnt want you feeding it to the dog." "But its not fair that we get nummy food and he doesnt!" "Tell that to Elliot when we get home, but for now this is our food that we are buying."
Todd huffed as he turned his attention away from Liam, one of two father figures that he had in his life. Liam was usually the easy going and fun Dad, but he also had moments where he listened to Dad number 1, Elliot, and thus became un-fun.
Their trip was a simple one, or at least thats what Elliot had said when he handed Todd the shopping list. They were to get a few things from the deli to make sandwiches for lunch and for Todd to take to school. It was all well and good, Todd loved the food from the deli, but he also loved sharing it with their new dog, Ricky Bobby.
As they reached their destination, Todd switched moods almost instantly, smiling brightly at nothing in particular as they walked inside. Bad mood or not, he couldnt help but be excited for the delicious deli food.
"How about you go find us a seat while I order our food, kiddo?"Liam smiled as he ruffled Todd's hoodie, earning a short giggle from the young boy before he walked off to the counter.
Todd fixed the position of his earred hoodie before looking for a good spot to sit, finding said spot to seem to be occupied by a rather interesting looking girl. Being the curious boy that he was, it was hard for him not to walk over and investigate. "Hullo! I'm Todd."

Casia startled as she was addressed, partially because it was a strange voice and a strange boy, but mostly because she didn't quite have permission to be here. Jane hadn't expressly said she couldn't walk to the deli, and that was the only excuse she'd have if caught. The guardian might not even care, but there was still the risk of the woman going ape on her. Wide brown eyes blinking, she nodded her head briefly. "...Hi." the siren offered carefully, and when she was not instantly accused of anything or attacked, added, "I'm Casia."
It was hard to be intimidated of a boy with a floppy animal hoodie, and the siren felt like she needed to be polite, to say something at least. "What's up, cool cat?" Her feet kicked back and forth in the stool and she tried to look nonchalant. Talking to strangers was difficult for the siren recently.

Well the girl had one thing right, he was cool, but he was certainly not a cat. " These are fox ears! No worries though, you're not the only one to get confused. Are you getting foods from here as well?" Oh but where were his manners, here he was rambling and he hadn't even greeted her properly. He suddenly extended his hand to her and grinned brightly," Its nice to meet you Casia."
Todd had many questions swimming around in his head, but Elliot had taught him not to 'bombard' people with so many questions. It was rude, or something to that extent, and he certainly did not want to be rude.

Casia blinked confusedly, then realized what she had done. "Oh, no! Cat means 'guy'." she explained, having gotten used to her outdated lingo being misunderstood by now. "Nice to meet you too." She gave him a weak smile, he didn't seem that bad, but she shifted nervously in her seat anyway, wings fluttering a bit.
"Um, yeah!" she said, and since she had no other excuse to be there, she made a big show of motioning someone over to her to take her order. "A Shakespearean Summer on... Wheat? Please." With that over with, she nearly sat back down, but jumped up again, waving furiously and adding "And a cola!" The cola here came in those tall glass bottles, and Casia thought they were simply the grooviest things this side of town.

Cat meant guy? Todd hadn't been aware of this, but was glad that he knew better now, and it did explain why she had gotten fox confused with cat. He blinked a few times in silent thought, but her fluttering wings and sudden movements snapped him out of his small daze.
Taking a seat at her table, he watched the person who took her order stroll off, his confusion only mounting higher as he tried to comprehend what she had even ordered. "Whats a....Shakes-per....Whats did you order? It sounds weird. Liam usually orders chicken and beef and pork. And whats a cola?"

Casia really didn't know. She had only been to a deli once, and someone had ordered for her then, and the food had just magically arrived. It was a word you said to get a sandwich! However, Todd didn't seem to recognize it and she looked worried. Had she done the wrong thing? Had she messed up? Looking down and straightening out her skirt hastily to hide the puzzled look on her face. "It's a type of sandwich." she decided quickly. "It has a name." That had to be right, anyway. "It's just easier to say than listing all the ingredients, yeah?" Feeling more confident, the siren looked up and flashed the fox boy a brief smile.
Her eyes widened. "You've never had cola?" Cola was a special treat and Casia was appalled someone hadn't tried one yet. The fizzy drink wasn't something she'd want to have all the time, but it was high on her list of favourite things. "Cola is... It's this drink, okay? And it's got bubbles in it. It kind of tickles and it tastes like..." She frowned, thinking about how to describe the flavour. "It' tastes sweet." she finished weakly. It was a strange sensation and she didn't have the words to paint him a picture.

Todd nodded in understanding, although it did take him a few moments to do so. "That makes sense, but how they know whats in it? Is it their type of sandwich, or does everybody know?" Everybody but him it would seem, but he certainly wanted to learn. Its name made it sound yummy!
He shock his head,"Nope, never had it before." He may have seen Liam drinking it once, but that was the extent of his knowledge. He sat quietly as he listened to Casia explain what Cola was, and every bit of information she gave him, the more he wanted to try it. " That sounds yummy!" He grinned brightly before looking around frantically for Liam, finding his father had taken up post at a table near by to read a newspaper.
"Daddy Liam! Can I get a Cola? Casia says its yummy!"
Liam looked up from his paper, a smile crossing his features as he nodded, "But dont tell Elliot that I let you." He chuckled then turned his attention back to his paper.
Todd grinned brightly and turned back toward Casia, "He says I can have one. How do I get one?"

Casia considered this. "I think it's a special kind of sandwich. Like... Angel food cake? It's just got a special name, but that doesn't mean it's got Shakespeare really in it. That would be super grody!"
Casia nodded affirmatively. "You have to have some cola, then." she informed him. It was ridiculous to not know what cola was, and the siren was just the person to rectify this blatant lapse in the fox boy's education. "Another cola over here please!" she said, and felt somewhat gratified when the man behind the counter brought one over. That was another thing she liked about the deli, grownups listened and did what you told them to. "You want a straw for that. And be careful opening it!" The old fashioned metal top was sometimes hard to pop off, and even though she hardly knew Todd, as his self-appointed cola drinking instructor she couldn't let him get hurt.
