Father was babysitting this morning. She knew that for a fact. And if that was true then this meant that Mother was free. And when Mother was free, that meant opportunity for talking!

Eeva needed to talk.

She'd been thinking about this all day, about what was going on in her head and come to the conclusion that the only one who would understand was Rehema. Mother knew everything and so it only made sense to ask her questions when she couldn't find the answers alone.

She was tracking across the rocky terrain, hoping to catch sight of her mother's dark frame amongst the green. She was sure she would have been here!

"Mother? Mother, are you here?"

Quiet...and solitude. As much as she loved her family, the new cubs- all of it, sometimes she just needed a break. She was a little hungry...but that was the least of her concerns at the moment. The warm sun on her belly, the soft grass under her body, and the cool morning dew against her sides was heaven.

Ona insisted that she needed a break. The boy had pulled through his first night and had grown to be as strong as his other siblings. In testiment to his brush with death, a spider had been painted over the paw where the damnable insect had bitten him.

Rehema sighed and rolled herself to one side, allowing her belly some of the sunlight.

From the green undergrowth there came a rustling and then, suddenly, a small brown face appeared. A brown face set with bright blue eyes and a slightly concerned expression. Tghe expression changed a little as the thing she was searching for made itself known.

"Mother!"

Eeva pushed through the undergrowth and burst into view, making quick work of closing the gap between herself and the older lioness. "There you are! Father said you were taking a break today." A pause. "Um...is it okay if I join you for a while?"

"Eeva?" Rehema rolled herself back to her belly and lifted her head up sharply. She wasn't disappointed to see the girl, more concerned. She'd sought her out?

"Of course, sure... is something wrong?" She moved over a bit and patted the spot next to her.

With a delighted little purr, the young female moved closer and then sat herself down close by.

"Oh, no, no. Well, not really." She sighed deeply. "Just a little confused, that's all. My brothers wouldn't understand and neither would Father so I thought maybe you could help. You're a girl after all and this is...well...girly stuff!"

She smiled and giggled somewhat shyly. "Besides...I also wanted to spend some time with you. Everyone's so busy now-a-days."

"Ah...girl talk." She chuckled and pushed herself up to a sit. She was never very good with girl talk. As a cub she spent a lot of her time wrestling with the males in the pride lands and making trouble for herself...but perhaps she could at least pretend for her daughter's sake.

"I'm sorry we've been busy." She shook her head, then glanced shortly to the side. Kohana hadn't followed..that was strange.

"The family's growing. You're almost a lioness. But it doesn't mean that your father and I don't have the time for you. All you need to do is ask."

"Oh, I know!" She replied. "I know you have time for me, me and the others. I just...well, the little ones need you more at the moment. They're still so tiny and everything. It's only fair they get as much attention as we did at their age."

She batted a rock across the ground with a paw.

"I wanted to ask you. What makes Father different to you? I mean...you have other friends that are males but...what makes him different from friends?"
PostPosted: Mon Apr 13, 2009 1:31 pm

"Ahh...", She nodded knowingly. Boy problems...well Eeva was getting around that age. And it was about time they had 'the talk'. Though...part of her wished that it could be somehow avoided.

"Well... that's not something you can really explain." She smiled softly, "You're a lot like me when I was younger. Wild, headstrong, and confident. When I met your father... he was so gentle and kind. Different from all the other males that I'd known in my life. He wanted...to know who I was. Not what I could do for him. In a way, he was everything I wasn't... he completed me."

She lifted her ears, listening intently to the wise words that her mother would offer to her. And when they came they confused her perhaps even more than before.

He was everything that she wasn't. He completed her.

She sniffed slightly. "Then, I suppose only time allows you to tell these things, right? I figured that was how it was supposed to be. I mean...there's this boy and...he's nice and weird but...I don't know. Different somehow. But I've ony met him once. Just, no one ever made my heart feel like that. But I don't even really know him."

She shook her head. "And now I can't stop thinking about it and it's driving me crazy!" She rolled her eyes. "Ugh...what am I going to do, Mum?"

She laughed, "Well that sounds like a crush." She shook her head, "When I was your age... ooh there were so many males that caught my eye. A princeling from the royal family...he had such kind eyes, and such a full mane. Then there was Malik, he was my best friend but I...felt like I could really depend on him. There were things about all of them that I admired, but I never really...felt the same way about them that I did about your father."

She reached a paw out to pull the cub closer, "Listen. There is no hurry for you to find a mate. Have fun. Play with the boys a bit. Tease them, flirt with them. It's half the fun...and when the time comes- you'll know when you've found the one you should take as your mate. He'll feel different from the rest. He'll make you feel... whole."

"A crush..." Yeah, she guessed it was. I mean really, anything else would have been just silly! She just didn't really like feeling like this. She had always been so emotion savvy, understanding everything from sadness to joy. But this was a completely different game altogether! She could barely even scratch the surface.

She allowed her mother to pull her closer and felt the usual smile slip back into place.

Rehema was right. Of course she was right! Mothers always knew what was best for their daughters!

"Oh, I can play the teasing game." She replied. "Boys are sooo much fun to wind up. You're right, I really shouldn't worry so much about it...I guess, knowing I'm going to take over the Clan someday. I have to pick wisely. Not just for myself, but for the Clan, right?" She drew in a breath. "Because even if the males can't function as leaders like the girls can, they still have to be strong and dependable. Just like Dad is for you."
PostPosted: Mon Apr 13, 2009 1:47 pm

"That's right...but you need to find someone that you truely love. If you get with someone because you think it's the sensible choice, you'll be miserable. The mood of a leader reflects on the morale of those that follow them. Whether it's as simple as a hunting party or as important as a clan."

She turned her head again, then slowly smirked. "Your shadow... he's listening in. Should I drive him off?"

She nodded slowly. This whole love thing was much more confusing than she had thought it. Maybe she should just relax about it and let what ever happens happen. Crush or more, perhaps she should just try to have fun and not worry. Not until things got clearer, at least.

"Thanks, Mum. I'm glad I have you here. I don't know what I'd do without you. Maybe I should bring him home so you can see what he's like." She grinned, unsure whether it would be a good idea or not.

The boy in mind was, after all, a bit of an oddity.

"My...Shadow?" It took her a moment for the realisation to sink in, and then it did and she groaned, pressing a paw to her face. "Oh no, how much do you think he's heard?" She adored her brother, really she did. But he had this issue about her and other males. Overprotective, maybe?

"I'd feel bad if we got rid of him..."

"Well that's what I'm here for. It's my job. When you become a mother, you'll see." She nuzzled her cheek against Eeva's, "But that can wait. For quite a while. Don't ruin your lovely figure just yet. It's too soon."

"As for bringing him over, that'd be lovely. Of course, he'll need the approval of your father as well." She released her paw and settled it down beside its twin in the grass, "We just want what's best for you...."

She lookd up once more. Kohana had been ratted out, so the young male stood himself up, his eyes averted, ears laid back.

"Well, Kohana? How much have you heard?"

"...", He cleared his throat, turned around, and started to walk away. He thought he'd been quiet this time!

She smiled. Ruining her figure? What was she talking about? Love didn't ruin a figure. She only had to look at her mother to know that. She was beautiful! Even still she had a feeling she knew what she meant and nodded slightly.

Approval? He'd need both of their approval? Her heart dropped a little, turning the feeling into one of panic. What if he lost his temper or something in front of them?

Calm, Eeva, calm. Nothing has happened yet and nothing might ever happen. Just calm!

And then she spotted him moving away and she sighed, releasing his name in her exhaled breath. "Kohana..." She glanced apologetically at her mother. "I'd best go after him. Just to make sure he's okay." She paused, gave her mother an affectionate nuzzle and then raced after her brother, calling out for him as she went.
