I ask, only because I did for Easter.
Alright, I didnt get dragged. My grandparents dont know my hometown well and I'd feel bad if they went by themselves so I woke up early and toddled along.

I'm not a fan. Not because it was Catholic, but we went to the -wrong- church. Oh yes, its totally possible. The town I'm from has maybe 3-4 Catholic churches and they divide up as follows:

St. Francis- for rich people who want to be seen by their peers.
Immaculate Conception- who somehow forgot the Catholic doctrine...
Christ the King-where the parishioners are somewhat cold and distant.
St. Patricks-...no one can find it.

Now, those are broad generalizations, but you get the picture. We went to St Francis, and the people were freakin rude. First, they cut my grandpa off when hes trying to get a parking space. Then, entire families are saving multiple pews for their absent friends and family, and all the while I'm getting sneered at for wearing jeans ( rolleyes Seriously people, should be -explicative- happy I dont start spouting off about their lemming-lyfestyles).

The priest is reading from "The Gospel according to Wikipedia", and a bible isnt seen during the entire mass. Then they make you mumble how you revoke satan and believe only in the Catholic faith. sweatdrop Ha...Meanwhile, ALL of this is sung, in too many warbling voices, and drown out by the Battle of the Band to my left.

I've never been so happy to leave that place...I grew up with a HUGE, cathedral-like church, that was extremely Orthodox. No bands, no ballerinas skipping down the aisle, and everyone was friggin' POOR, but honest and happy. Sure, the members of that church went to confession weekly, but they (and the priest) were much less ashamed of WHY they were going. They knew it was human, whereas people up here have this "holier-than-thou I drive a hummer and dont sin but rob people blind and profit from their losses" attitude. Its sick. I dont mind going back to "my" church, hell, I even LIKE going there. Up here though, you get dragged to the wrong church all too often...

So! Share your happy little church going experiences! xd

And let me say, most of this was to be comedic. I'm sure a good handful of those people today were put to rest and happiness by the overly flamboyant service this morning, and I respect that.

My parents weren't really church-goers when me and my sisters were little. The only times we'd go, sometimes, would be for Easter and Christmas. I had my Communion late (I was in 5th grade), but I never had my Confirmation.

It was actually when my grandmother passed away when I was 14, when my family decided to live at the house to take care of Baci (my great grandmother - Baci meaning Grandmother in Polish). She was in her late 90's at the time, and we used to take her to Catholic Mass in her wheelchair.
This didn't last for long, as these trips were tiring her out. So, for awhile, a priest from the church would come over to visit with her and give her a private mass in her bedroom. It was weird, as the priest said he never really knew what old dialect of Polish Baci was speaking, though he was Polish himself (Baci formed some sort of altheimers where she forgot how to speak English, and she slipped into an old Polish dialect).

Other than that, one of my sisters had her Communion.

When I moved up to here in MA, I was somewhat made to go to church by someone's mother .... I didn't really like it, it was mostly middle-aged and old ladies and old guys there. Mostly all the women have their hair cut really short .... no I am NOT cutting my mid-thigh-length hair so I can fit in with them. What I didn't like during the sermons of this church (and the Catholic churches I've went to), was the part about all of us are sinners, we need to pray to have our sins forgiven, and we weer born with original sin, etc. That would always make me feel uncomfortable. Not ALL of us are sinners, and no, being born is NOT a sin.

Climarathorn and I both got dragged to church... Let me rephrase that.
We got dragged to a school auditorium set up for a religious ceremony that neither of us had any wish to partake in. Not only that, the moment we walked in there was trouble. A guy who started a fight with both of us one time was there and already trying to get us kicked out. But we were there as a request of C's mom so that was stifled quickly. But Climarathorn almost hexed the poor idiot. (Rolls of newspaper come in handy at times like that. lolz) We sat through the service. I was nodding off because I had night shift at work the night before and hadn't slept yet. C was steaming out his ears because of the guy, and his mom was blissfully unaware that anything bad was happening in her church. Otherwise, it was a nice morning.

I wouldn't say "steaming" per-say, more like fumigating the place with my hatred for this guy..... rolleyes

Careful, someone might bash your church bashing comment xd

It is a bit odd though, further thought on it. The whole saving recognition of our faults/sins till the end of the week thing always seemed hokey to me.

At least they make an effort, some of them...

Happy Cinco de Mayo too everyone. Get drunk and be merry!

I get dragged every Sunday. Not to be disrespectful, but it's really grating on my nerves.

Understandable. It can get really frustrating having to sit there and listen (I never listened sweatdrop My old church was so pretty and distracting that I dont think anyone listened). It can be hard too, when you dont share the same beliefs. I remember meditating discreetly when I still had to go, or focusing on how happy the really hardcore parishioners were just to be there (my old hometown had an overabundance of churchgoing grandmas). Even trying to find connections between my religion and thiers, rather than pointing out all the differences helped. Its a crap situation, but sometimes making the best of it makes going a little less painful.

ya know whats funny? after all the drama of getting dragged to church my mum is starting to feel how i felt about our church before i left, that no one really cares anymore and that they're a bunch of fakes. unfortunately all this means is that shes thinking about going to another church with one of my old teachers from H.S. sweatdrop

Yay.....I'm going to church in a few hours (I don't have to listen to the boring sermon oh yeah) But still being around Christains always make me feel a little guilty...This is turning into one very interesting year.

It's not quite a dragging, considering I'm choosing to go, but I'm heading to a Unitarian church in about an hour.
And for irony's sake, as I typed that I looked up at the television screen to find a commercial for the Lutheran Church of America or something.
They made a cross in chili-like soup using a tortilla. Heh.

Well, it certainly was a curious experience. Out of the whole hour-and-half I was there, only twice did I hear the name God, and there was no giant crucifix hanging on the back wall. In fact, there was a Jewish star on one of their decorative blankets, as well as a crescent moon and pentacle-like star. There was some chanting that reminded me of Pagan rituals, and at the end (this one took me by surprise), we formed a circle.
