Manny watched from a bench as a group of neighborhood girls and boys about her own age tumbled around the grass, shaking her head with a smile at their antics. She was supposed to be supervising the practice for a ritual dance taking place at the Feast of Ogun in a few months, but so far it had just been a lot of goofing off. The dance itself was a little hectic and she supposed to most people it looked comical, but it was important to her mother. The only more important part, short of the feast itself, was the song, the one she'd be singing alone. The thought bothered her a little, singing had never really been he forte, but as the Santera's daughter she couldn't refuse. She fidgeted at the thought, gripping both hands on her cane.

Joshua was fascinated. He was watching the other children with interest, until his vivid green eyes had set on a teenage girl sitting on the bench across from his. He smiled at her and gave a friendly wave.
"Hi, I'm Joshua." The boy said, leaning closer so she could hear him. The girl looked worried about something, she fidgeted. Maybe she needed someone to talk to; and Josh was always willing to listen. "What's your name?" So far, he'd only met one teenage girl, and that was Kaimi. Maybe they were friends?

The voice startled her out of her daydreams and for a moment Manny just looked at him. Then she cracked a smile, gesturing for him to come sit next to her if he wanted. "Manuela, most people call me Manny though." He was kind of cute for a kid, though she wished more could be done with his hair. It looked about the same texture as hers. There she was, drifting off into looks. Back to reality. "It's nice to meet you Joshua, I'm going to guess you don't hang out here much?"

"Nice to meet you Manny." Josh said with a smile. He moved so he was sitting next to her. "Nah. I've never been to this part of the park before." This was mainly because when he came to the park, he was usually too busy playing with friends or siblings to explore much.
"Anyway, it's the first time I've been allowed to come to the park for a while. I was grounded." He frowned slightly, obviously being grounded had taken a toll on the boy.

"Me too," she said with a smile, lifting her cane, "Grounded in a way at least. I'm supposed to be watching those idiots." Manny gestured to the group of people that were not at least partially attempting the dance, "For my mom. It's kind of boring though." She wondered what he did for fun, he looked proper, like she remember Antony being, but that wasn't always an indicator she'd found.

"Looks like fun." Joshua said, looking at the teenagers with a smile. "I'm not very good at dancing, though." He paused, and looked at Manny. "So if you're bored, why aren't you doing something fun?" Doing something boring, whether it was for your parents or not, was a crime.
"I'm just waiting for my friends to show up." Josh admited. He was waiting for Nataya. He had another surprise for her.

She shrugged, "I can't really dance with them and I didn't think to bring any of my schoolwork." What else could you do for fun around here? Most of the people around were playing frisbee, climbing trees, stuff she couldn't really do anymore. "Well if they're going to be a while we could do something, if you have any ideas anyway."

Joshua couldn't believe it. His eyes widened, and he stared at her. "You think schoolwork's fun?" He said, voicing his disbelief. How could anyone think homework was fun? Talk about boring! Maybe that was how people became when they turned into teenagers. Boring. But Kaimi wasn't boring... She still knew how to play. Maybe Manny did too; she just didn't know it.
"Want to play a game?" Josh asked, with a tilt of his head.

"Not fun," she said quickly, "But I need to get caught up." She smiled, glad for a change of subject. School was stressful for her lately, especially the prospect of being held back. Though, the younger kids mostly seemed cool. "What kind did you have in mind?"

Josh looked relieved. So she didn't think homework was fun. That was good. "I don't know, what games do you know how to play?" Knowing what games Manny knew would be a good place to start. Then he could pick from a list.

Manny thought for a moment. There were some fun ones she could think of, but she couldn't run very much on her leg so some of them were out. "I know a lot of card games," she suggested, "Or we could play truth or dare." It had been a while since she'd really played any games, "Or whatever you want."

"What's truth or dare?" Josh asked, with a tilt of his head. He'd never played it. He was more interested in make-believe and tag, hide-n-seek. "How do you play? What do you do?" Maybe it was a different way of playing tag, or some other game he knew.
"I don't know any card games, and I didn't bring any cards." Josh said with a frown. Who in their right mind would take cards to the park? A park was to be played in!

"You pick truth or dare, and then you either have to answer a question no matter what it is or do something silly," she explained, hoping that was about the rules of the game. She'd never thought much about them herself just usually launched herself into an ongoing game. "That's okay, cards are pretty boring," she admitted.

Josh nodded, the rules seemed simple enough. "Sounds easy. Let's play." He said with a smile. He didn't have very many secrets, so truths would be easy. "You want to go first, or do you want me to go?" He asked politely.

"You can go first if you want," Manny offered, a little curious as to what the kid would come up with. Boys always came up with some weird things, hopefully he wouldn't ask her to climb a tree or anything. "Ask me truth or dare."
