[ OOC for Records: This comes after "Bothering the Brute."]

It had been a few hours since the large Guardian of the lunar tribe had crossed paths with the little 'prince' like cub, and it was showing on his face. Youth was such a fickle creature - he couldn't remember it as well as others, but watching it flit before his paws on footfalls of many in the pride made him feel all good inside.

Even if they were a little frustrating, at times.

Shaking off his mighty dark mane, he continued on his nightly trail through the pridal lands, a habit he had picked up since the previous king had deemed him the Head Guard. It was a full time job, keeping an eye on those around him, and watching for any intrusions. Not much broke the ranks of the pride lines, beyond rogues that seek solace within the pride - but he kept his rank - and continued to guard what he could.

Taking a route towards the northern section of the boundaries, he wondered what other meetings this blessed night would come up with.

User ImageNo matter how much happier Waridi felt after she had settled down in the pride, there was still a hesitant stir in her body. Yes, this was her new pride, her new home, and she was grateful for it, yet the lioness still, somehow felt out of place. Perhaps it was because those of her rank were mostly male, or perhaps it was because her heart did not yet think she was truly at home.

She was still very much a stranger in the pride, and that Unyezi, who had welcomed to her pride as the king was suddenly now a slave, made her feel awkward, for some reason. He was the only one she had talked to here; Waridi had merely seen the others and nodded to them in greeting. Now that he was not who he was before, but essentially the same kind lion that had invited her to join...urrggh. This was a bit of a headache.

The lioness heaved a small sigh and continued on her patrol, her head bowed in thought.

As he neared his next patrol marker, one that he had set in his mind so that he was aware of where he was during the evening hours, the dark brute caught sight of another body in the wandering patrol - the female that had joined his guard prior to the de-ranking of Unyezi.

If he hadn't been so aware of everything during the night, he would have missed her, admittably - her dark pelt almost as invisible in the night time glows as his own, like a darkened rose's thorns.

From what he could see - she seemed like she had a lot on her mind - an uneasiness almost floating over her, a bad attitude for such a lovely night. At first he considered just leaving her be - the previous engagement with the little cub leaving a bit of a taste in his mouth - but a little nagging part deep down in his heart told him he had an obligation towards this female. She was part of his watch, a part of his beloved guards - he had to make sure they were okay.

Clearing his throat, he hastened his pace a little to get closer to her, his body showing no threat, nor urgency. "You look like you have something on your mind." He rumbled out, concern lightly resonating through his voice.

The female blinked in surprise at the low voice interrupting her thoughts, berating herself for letting down her guard when she was supposed to be...well...guarding the borders. She still needed time to adjust to her new role, that was for sure, but it was a change she had welcomed, and thus she should step up to this responsibility.

Luckily, when she turned to acknowledge the presence of the other, she recognized him as...the Head Guard. Oh dear, even as she knew who he was, she had forgotten his name. She had never been good at them herself, for she hardly spoke to others. But she couldn't very well avoid that here, could she?

"Ah." She murmured, bowing her head in greeting. "It's probably the uneasiness of still being somewhat unfamiliar to the new surroundings."

(mind the terrible wording XD.)

Unfortunately for the head guard, he too was plagued with the inability to recall her name, as it graced his face for a few moments, before he shook it off lightly, returning his gaze back to her. Slowing his pace to a near halt as he made it to her side, he returned the greeting nod to her, his mane shuffling into his face a little as he did. A silent welcome.

"I understand your plight. . ." he started, thinking of how he would word himself, "I, too, suffered the uneasiness when I found my way here." Her issue was not uncommon - it happened often to new members.

"Is there anything I can do to make you feel better, tonight?" he offered. No need to leave a guard alone, when they're plagued with issues - they won't do their job well.

Her head tilted curiously over to him as he spoke, revealing that he was not born in these lands either. For some reason, it made her feel better that she wasn't the only outsider; and that he seemed to fit in well enough now, even though he had confessed that the beginning wasn't easy for him as well.

"I wouldn't like to give you any trouble." She said meditatively, a gentle smile directed at him in gratitude. "Moreover, I'm not exactly sure how to make the uneasiness go away. Perhaps some advice would be helpful?"

Nyota only dismissed her first statement with a shake of his head and a rare, light grin as he started to walk beside her, hopnig she would follow him - they would continue the mid-evening watch and conversation at the same time, hopefully it would assist her current uneasiness.

"I familiarized myself with the surroundings." He started, not being terribly good with niceties. Tilting his head toward her, he continued with his little story, dark eyes concentrating on his paws that fell over familiar grounds. "It may sound strange, but it was a little comforting to know where you are. Even if you don't know who you're talking with, you feel better in somewhere you normally are comfortable, alone." He could honestly say this, between the cub, Kivuli, and this Guard, it had been the most he had talked in weeks.

"But, I guess it's different with everyone," he admitted.

Her lips curved slightly upwards as he strolled on, paws falling into step beside him. It was nice to meet a lion who was so affable, for those she had met back in her old pride were rather domineering and selfish. But now, at least, everyone in her new life seem to treat her kindly enough.

"I guess I can understand that." She bobbed her head in agreement. "I'm pretty much familiar with the borders of course, but it's still rather...foreign." There was a pause before she looked back up at the Head Guard, realizing that she indeed, did not know who she was talking with save for his rank. "I do apologize, but I can't seem to remember your name."

"It's always best to start from the outside and work yourself in," he mused outwardly, chortling at his statement, "You give yourself less vulnerabilities, and nothing can jump out from behind you."

He couldn't help but admit that this was kind of a nice opportunity - to have someone to walk with him this evening. Strength in numbers, the business side of his mind thought, but the comfort was there also.

Hearing the beginning of her next statement, the star-pelted brute lifted his head to regard her once more, before a light smile broke out over his features. "Here I was, worrying that I was the only one who's knowledge of names was slacking." He mused, hoping to instill some amusement.

"I am Baba'Nyota, guardian star. Kind of a fitting title, I would think," he introduced himself, a pretty dry introduction, "And yourself?"

She gave a light chuckle at his piece of advice. It did seem hold some truth to it, though Waridi'eusi suspected that the young ones wouldn't mind jumping at older lions to scare them; for little ones did like to have their fun.

A sheepish grin spread on her maw and she shook her head lightly in amusement. "Ah, I see our names have conveniently left each others memory at the same time, oddly enough." Her shoulders relaxed slightly at this, for she didn't feel as guilty as she did for forgetting his name.

His name did indeed fit him, she thought, for the sparkling pattern on his pelt matched the stars twinkling up in the dark sky. It was rather beautiful to look at, really. "I am Waridi'eusi, black rose."

Nyota couldn't help but echo the chuckle, when the lioness realized that they were two peas in a pod when it came to name memorization. Slowing down for a border checkpoint, he gave a curt nod to her, before starting the conversation again.

"And, yet, it appears that we also seem to have parents with similar tastes, seeing as our names reflect ourselves completely." He joshed, before nodding to her. "But it's a very fair name, befitting a fair lioness - even if you've proven yourself as a guard." He noted.

"I hope it hasn't put you off that you are one of the only Guardian lionesses, though. I would like to find more . . ."

"Thank you." She said, dipping her head gracefully, a small smile blossoming upon her maw at the compliment.

"I had noticed that." She said. "Perhaps the lionesses of this pride feel that other duties suit them. I just felt that I would like to protect my new home." That was her intention, and it was as simple as that.

"And, I commend you for that." He rumbled softly, before breaking his attention from her to look around the border, his dark eyes scanning every inch, nook and cranny for any movement that was foreign to his well adjusted eyes. The old King had given him a home, and he was making sure to keep it safe, even under the youthful guise of the Princess turned Queen.

"I'm sure there will be more, and you'll be there when they have their questions. I'm sure they'll feel save knowing that there is someone who thinks like them." He stated, turning his attention to her once again, feeling that this area was safe for another night.

"I look forward to that day." She told him with absolute sincerity. A kindred spirit would perhaps make her feel more assured, although she could find no fault with this place. And helping other lionesses with similar intentions was a good deed.

"Are there any other guards you need to check on?" Waridi asked him politely. She wouldn't want her to hinder him in doing his job as the Head Guard. Or perhaps it was because she was new that he could take more time with her and ask if she was well. She thought of him as a very nice and caring lion, fitting of his role.

The lioness' answer was replied with a warm smile, the dark guard happy with her small streak of optimism in these quiet times. He was sure that he would be able to bring forth a strong and concrete legion of guards to watch over his new home. There would be other lionesses, as fresh-faced and worrying about the future as she was, and he knew she would be there for them, every step of the way.

It was only after her soft voice returned to his ears that he had noticed the time, raising his dark eyes up to the star-crossed skies, noticing how much time had passed since he started his walk with Waridi. Turning back down to her, he nodded his head softly before murmuring again. "I believe it would be high time to check on the other posts, the night is not as young as it was when I started my rounds, and I do have a bit more to do before the Great Lion takes his rest." He started, turning to break off from her direction of rounds. "If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to come find me. Please, have a good remainder of the evening, Waradi'Eusi."

With that, he bowed his great head to the lioness, and stalked off, to find the next victim of random Nyota time, before the night finished.
