◁ Those Called ▷It began at precisely 0000h UCT on the 13th of February, 2009.
Every television set. Every computer display. Every electronic billboard. Every handheld game system and cell phone with a graphical display. Every single visual display in the entire world displayed the same geometric shape.
Every radio. Every walkie-talkie. Every electronic music instrument. Every device that chimed, beeped or chirped. Every single audio producing device in the entire world played the same tune.
For exactly 24 hours, this symbol and tune were overlaid on every single broadcast. Every living person in the entire world either saw the symbol, or heard the tune.
Naturally, it was the subject of great debate and concern. Newscasters admitted frankly that they had no idea what was going on, or how it could possibly be done... all the while with the symbol superimposed over their image, and the tune playing in the background. There was no panic, but there was concern.
And then... 24 hours after it began, it ended, just as abruptly, and with no warning or explanation.
And strangest of all, it was as if all record of the event had been erased from history. No recordings made that day showed the symbol or the tune. Nothing that was printed or recorded contained any mention of it, even when it had been talked about all day. It was as if all records had been edited to make the whole thing a non-event. It never happened.
Most mysterious of all, people's memories had been altered. No one remembered the strange events of that day. Instead, they remembered other events, as if they had lived that whole day as normal, without ever seeing the symbol or tune. Even more peculiar, they would quietly change all available evidence, so that it would now make it appear that they had spent the day normally... but then they would not remember doing any of it. It was as if the entire day had been completely edited out of the lives of every human being on Earth.
Almost every human being....
A small group remember the events of that day... and are changed by it. They are granted abilities, beyond the capabilities of normal humans. Some find they have the ability to move objects with their minds. Some find they can heal any wound. Some develop incredible strength and speed. Some find they can float.
But the one thing they all have in common is a compulsion, drawing them together.
They are those who were called. But called by whom, and for what?

Alright, this is gonna be a rp about heroes - but not superheroes. Everyone here will have special abilities, but will not be god-like in their powers. Think of the show Heroes, if you like, or The 4400. If it seems a little familiar, it is based on one of the original rps from when this guild opened: Voices From Another Age. Except that i've replaced the past lives thing with this hero powers thing. This rp will be run in the guild ( Polaris will not), and will be a lot less involved. It will also be coming a lot sooner than Polaris will. If you are interested in this rp, there are one or two key character spots that can be filled, if you want to take an active role in guiding the story. Contact me in private if you want one of these special roles. For anyone else interested, you can check Wikipedia for the lists of powers that people from The 4400 and Heroes to give you ideas of what your character might be able to do. i just ask that you don't push it too far, because especially with Heroes, some of the powers are way powerful. When thinking up an ability, make sure you also think up limits and weaknesses that actually matter. For example, you may be able to summon up great strength, but only for a short time, and if someone shines a black light on you, you lose that strength. Or you may be able to see the future, but only when you are in a trance that leaves you completely helpless. Basically, give yourself an ability, and then a way that an ordinary human being with no abilities can stop you (provided they know how). Edit: There was a movie recently called Push, and of course Jumper... the abilities in both of those aren't bad ideas to start from.

You've probly noticed that construction has begun. i am not accepting characters yet, but i am putting up stuff that will help you develop a character. So start planning now!

So i now have pretty much everything up that you'll need to start thinking up a character. The story is here, the rules and some extra info (including a short story about a third character that is dead before the roleplay starts) is here, and you can check out Liu's and (soon) Ceilidh's profiles here. After i finish up Ceilidh's profile, i will post the profile form, and then you can start submitting characters by PM. Until then, use the extra time to think up some sweet abilities, and and awesome characters. Peace out.

Assuming the guild isn't actually dead, I am interested in joining, Anna! But I have not been able to think of a really neat super power. xd
Right now it would be nice if my superpower was the ability to tolerate chauvinist engineers. stare But, that will probably not be very useful in the roleplay.
Also, it is really neat to see that you have made non-North American and non-Japanese characters! heart That is surprisingly rare! I am inspired to do it, too. 3nodding I had already made an Indian-American for Project All Things Nice, maybe I will reuse her, except this time make her actually Indian.
I am also curious to see how different this is from Voices from Another Age. 3nodding

oh it's totally different. ^_^ i mean, the first part is sorta the same, but it gets very different.
dude, don't do indian, that's cheating. expand your horizons! i did chinese and irish!

I think I have decided on the super power. I think I am going to use "Force Push". And I think Botswana is a great idea. xd
I will make her name Veronica "'Nica" Masire, 18 years old, a little juvenile in character but spunky. I think I will do something a little different, and have her power be no secret at all. In fact, I think I will set it up so that her trip to New York was actually sponsored by her village. She discovered her power in full view of her village and became a bit of a sensation there, and hammed it up, enjoying the attention and celebrity status. It will be fun to play someone who was a really big fish in a really little pond, with an ego to match, who now finds herself in the middle of New York. 3nodding

i might make a character.. if i ever get over this sort of slump i'm in... it sounds like a really goor rp though.
We're barely managing to stay afloat with member activity, as i've been rather lax in my duties as El Capitano here... And there's also school that i gotta worry about and such...
I have done advertising in another guild, though sadly it too seems to be in a slump when it comes to member activity...
What kinds of abilities could someone have, so i have a base for a character when i get around to creating one.

I can give you the list of suggested abilities Anna sent me: Quote: Gravity Bend Abilities: Change the effect of gravity on any object you touch - so you can make thing lighter or heavier, or even weightless so they can float, or even negatively heavy so they fly up in the air. This includes yourself, so you can float and even fly a bit. Weaknesses: You can only add or remove 2 g, so the maximum and minimum you can change the effect of gravity is -1 g and 3 g. The maximum size you can effect is about the size of a normal horse - a car is too big. You have to touch to effect something, and the effect wears off after a few seconds once you stop touching. You can't change the effect instantaneously, the max rate is 1 g/s, so it takes you 2 seconds to change the gravity effect on something from 1 to 3 g. Voice Abilities: Using the power of your voice, you can command people to your bidding. You plant suggestions, and something in your voice makes people completely follow your suggestion. The way it works is you don't force people to do what they don't want to do - you use your voice power and words to basically hypnotize them and make them think it's their idea, and that they want to do it. Weaknesses: The "spell" can be broken if something startles the victim and they realize they are being hypnotized. You have to be able to speak at normal volume levels, without too much extra noise around. Earplugs block the power. Beast Within Abilities: You have enhanced smell, reflexes and balance - not to the point that you can dodge bullets, but you can easily dodge rocks if a bunch of people were to throw them at you. Physically, you are about the equal of a circus acrobat on the trapeze or tightrope. Animal rages give you berserker strength (like someone hopped up on drugs). Weaknesses: You get irrational panic attacks because of fire that turn you into a cowering, whimpering baby. When you get angered you fly into berserker rages that make you dumb - you don't think, you just slash, bite and roar. Force Push Abilities: You can fire blasts of pushing force from your hands that can shove things away at a distance. These blasts can push with much more strength than you can push by yourself. Weaknesses: You have a limited range - say 10 m - and limited strength - you can push a car back, but not a bus. You also can't maintain a blast (so you can't hold anything down), and you have wait half a second between blasts. Invincible Shell Abilities: You can manifest a shell around yourself made of a very hard material. You can either manifest it around individual body parts, or around your whole body. The shell is not indestructable, but it is hard enough to stop bullets. If you put the shell around your whole body, you can be hit by a car and feel nothing (although the car will be totalled). You can maintain the shell for as short or as long as you want. Weaknesses: Whatever body part you put a shell around, you can't move it (so if you put a shell around your whole body, you're stuck like a statue until you turn it off). And if you put a shell over your face, you can't breathe (so you can't stay in the shell forever). It also takes a half-second or so to manifest the shell, you can't do it instantly. The shell is very, very tough, but it can be broken with enough force, and it is very heavy (so if you put a shell around yourself, you might fall through a thin floor - and if you put a shell around your fist it would *hurt* when you hit someone, but it would take a lot to swing). Ghost Phase Abilities: You can make your body insubstantial for a few seconds, so you can pass through solid objects. If you unghost inside a solid object, you get ejected out - how fast you get fired out depends on how far you have to travel to get out of the solid object (so for a thin wall, you get thrown out softly, but for a thick wall you get thrown out really hard). Weaknesses: You can only make yourself insubstantial for a few seconds. When you're insubstantial, you can't walk or run, you can only float in the direction you were moving in before you ghosted (so you have to take a running start to pass through a wall). After you ghost, it is a few seconds before you can ghost again. You can't ghost part of your body, only the whole thing. Body Shape Abilities: Your body can change its shape, allowing you to impersonate other people, and even inanimate objects. Not only can you change the shape of your body (with limits), you can change the colour and texture of your skin. Weaknesses: You can't change your voice, so you still sound like yourself. You can't change your body into *any* shape, just roughly human-like shapes *close* to your original size and shape (think of it like being made of jello or rubber, and not liquid). You can hold other shapes for a while, but the further the shape is from your natural shape, the harder it is to hold it, and the longer you have to rest before you can shape again. Jump Abilities: You can teleport yourself, and one other person max, to another nearby location that you can see. Weaknesses: You have to be able to see where you are jumping to, and the max jump distance is 50 m. Each jump makes you dizzy, and after 8 jumps or so you get nauseous - less if you are jumping with a person. It takes a second or so between jumps, and when you jump it makes a loud bang at both the start and end points. And of course, there are hundreds more possibilities: super sight, super hearing, mind reading, strength, super aim, the power of fire, water, air, electricty, etc. etc. Just remember that whatever power you give yourself, you have to add enough weaknesses that a normal human - and not even a particularly smart one - can stop you. Also, be careful that you pick an ability that will make your game interesting, but not ******** up everyone else's (like, mind-reading will ruin everyone else's fun unless you are *real* smart about it).

That list is just a list of examples - feel free to go off the list. All i ask is that you design your powers so that an ordinary human - with no special tools or skills, just an ordinary person from the street with whatever they might find at hand on that street - has a chance to defeat you.
No one *needs* to do the homeland security file. It's just a handy way to add more texture to your character. If you prefer, homeland security may not know about your character at all, or the file may be classified (like ceilidh's). Basically it just provides another way to tell the story of your character from another perspective - how the law sees you.

sweet, two down, two to go. ^_^
i will make the introductory posts for liu and ceilidh sometime this week. once both of those are done, the rp will officially start. so, by the weekend surely.
just to prepare you tho, so you can at least plan ahead... the two opening posts - liu and ceilidh - will take place in different parts of nyc. liu will have arrived by bus or car and she has moved into a sleazy motel and is just touring nyc. ceilidh will have just arrived at jfk international airport from ireland by plane, and will be waiting to catch a shuttle to the holiday inn. so, depending on where you are you can bump into either of them to get things rolling. if you are arriving by plane (for example, nica), you can bump into ceilidh waiting for the shuttle bus. if you are already in the city (for example, skye), you can bump into liu wandering around. once i get their intro posts up, you will get a clearer picture of where you can start, but until then this should give you some ideas to chew on.
until then, i have other characters to approve! please be patient with me!
