my feeder guppy keeps on having babies even though she hasent been around a male for months, just how long do they store sperm? well anyways my betta and the guppy keep on eating the babies. only one has survived long enough to know the ins and outs of the tank and which fish to avoid and which to stay near (smart little guy) is there anything i can do to keep the babies from getting eaten? i dont have the room or money to set up another another tank

the only way is to set up a separate tank or buy something to hang into your main tank...but the problem with that is most spaces built into the things are big enough for the babies (unless you buy a sort of net to hold them.)

I have the same problem. My solution has always been to put tight small plants in the bottom of the tank along with some kind of cave things for the babies to hide in. Obviously things with small openings work the best- good hiding spots. 3nodding
A divider could work too I suppose...but I never liked using them- too much of a hassle.

I would prefer using something like dwarf hair grass or some type of floating plant like duckweed for this situation, makes it so only the smart ones can survive and it would be less of a hassle than buying a container and holding it in that or moving it to a whole new tank and waiting for the babies to be born and moving the mommy out. Seems easier with just plants lol.. Baby Dwarf Tears would probably work as well for them to hide in.

yeah lots of plants and decorations would helps lots as well but depending on your tank (size and how many decorations are already in it) it may cost more to do that than to buy a sort of net or other holder (read you said you didnt have a lot of money)
