Meena could smell the scent of the ocean in the far distance and if she strained her ears could just, just hear the sound of the distant waves against the shore. She carried on following the river towards the mouth that met up with the ocean, her braids at mane and tail bobbing as she went. This was her first time in this part of the lands, and she was only down this way because her mother had asked her to check on her friend Dory, which Meena didn't mind as she remembered meeting the older mare when she was a filly, and she recalled her as being nice if not a little difficult to talk to because of her memory problems.

However, when Meena got to the beach where the brightly coloured mare could usually be found she didn't see her, and nor were there any recent signs to say she'd been by in the last few days. She gnawed on her bottom lip indiscively, wondering how much of the shore she should search to satisfy her mother that she at least tried to find her. Meena sucked in a lungful of the salty air and started calling for Dory, wandering slowly along, tilting her head this way and that to listen out for the mare.

The sun had inched its way along the sky a distance when she finally gave up, turning on her hooves in the sand, and heading back inland, pausing only to scuff shells from out of the shifting material. Although it was a fruitless journey, it had at least made a change from hanging around her home, or having to hear her sister Adrienne ask her for the hundreth time when she thought her foals might emerge from their baskets.
The question stung everytime because she was virtually a year older than her a sister, but had yet to find a mate, let alone have children. She looked out across the rolling waves and shook her mane, walking back towards the river, trying to concentrate on her haves, rather than her 'have nots'

Galahad had lingered by the ocean shore, having found he enjoyed the sea life and company it brought. Though he hadn't met many keen on exposure to the salty winds and the shell-crusted sand, there had been a few visitors. Thus far he had yet to meet anyone he didn't like, and certainly hadn't met any broken or down trodden souls.

Perhaps that was a reason for the stallion to linger. It wasn't that he didn't like his job or enjoy his duties, oh no. But every spirit needed a little time to recuperate from the pain and suffering of others. Part of the green eyed stallion felt guilty and weak for needing some time away from his duties, but he reminded himself Kaiya condoned such activities. Even the angeni grew weary during her constant fights and struggles with the damned. . . Even she took her personal days to pray and meditate.

Tail swishing lazily behind him, the horned stallion pushed his way of the nearby woods. He had enjoyed some mosses and greenery, much more tasty than the sharp beach grasses he'd come accustomed to. And though seaweed was of unique flavor, the woodland stallion preferred this day something more woodsy in flavor. It was as he was travelling out, back to the beach, that he noticed movement before him.

Sure enough, there was another heading away from the shore, and a stranger at that. She was natural in colour, a lovely shade of brown and white and looked to be female. The pale haired mare was indeed heading towards him, and so the stallion gave a quiet nicker in greeting. "Afternoon m'lady fair." He greeted lightly, not wanting to startle her. She didn't exactly look as if she were the most alert. . . deep in thought, perhaps, though he hoped she wasn't troubled.

Like all soquili he met, perhaps there was a need he could assist her with or a problem he could help solve.

Meena was slightly startled from her reverie when the stallion spoke, but she tried not to show it too much. After all, she was meant to be slightly alert when she was out away from her home.

'Hello,' she said, politely and guardedly but not in an unfriendly manner. She looked him over in a swift raking motion with her amber eyes, taking in his colouration, his stance and manner, the adornments he wore and the unusually curved horn at his forehead.

'You're heading inland as well?' she inquired, curious as to why he had come to this end of the lands. She didn't suppose for one minute that he was single, she couldn't imagine it being otherwise. He was probably leader of a great herd, she thought to herself.

Galahad couldn't help but smile at the natural coloured mare, pausing in his return to the beach. It was nice to meet a spot of company while his mentor was away. Not only did it give him a chance to hone his skills and, perhaps even assist one in need, but it broke up the monotony of the day. Though he did enjoy the ocean side, even the waves could be poor company after awhile.

"Actually, I'm heading back to the ocean. I'd merely stepped further inland to savor the greener and less bitter grasses I'm accustomed to. I fear I've had my share of seaweed and moss as of late," he admitted, green eyes bright. "And might I ask about the lady? Enjoying a stroll inland for a change from the sea, or has your visit along the beach ended?" Galahad hated to assume, and was sure he could be wrong on both accounts but figured both choices reasonable. She was heading inland, he was heading back to sea, hence how their paths had crossed.

"Ah, but forgive my rudeness. I'm Galahad, and tis a pleasure to meet you, miss," the pale haired stallion offered Meena a genuine and sincere bow, formal and proper just like he'd been raised. He wouldn't request the pretty mares name, not yet at any rate; it was her chocie to give . . . He wouldn't be insulted if she chose not to share.

Shame a little inner voice said, surprising Meena. It was a shame though, it meant after a short conversation they would probably part ways again. It would have been nice to walk and talk all the way back to the Village, but she supposed to even mention it would be an imposition on a stranger.

'I'm heading back home, I was sent on more of an errand than anything.' she replied, smiling back at the stallion.
'My mother asked me to check on a friend of hers that lives in this area, and so I'm just taking my time on the way back to tell her I couldn't find her friend.'

She arched her own head down in a return greeting, noticing how lovely his eyes were as she straightened.
'Meena.' she said, not being the sort of mare who minded if another knew her name. She didn't see the point in being coy.
'You're meeting anyone out here or just enjoying the scenery?'

Galahad was in no rush to head down to the shore. The ocean wasn't going to dry up anytime soon, and a spot of pleasant company would do him good. It was nice to get away from the dark hearted sorrow that many of his encounters possessed. "I'm sorry that your mother might find herself touched with disappointment," he stated, words sincere. "But, on the other hoof, at least you've picked a good day to travel and lovely scenery to enjoy. . . If I do say so myself," he added with a little chuckle.

The blond haired stallion wasn't entirely sure what else to say. He didn't want to hold up the pretty mare but honestly they were going two separate paths. Still, depending how far she lived from the ocean side perhaps she might like an escort? Though the sun was out and the day looked peaceful and sound, one never knew what lurked behind a corner. As a gentleman and a knight it was his duty to assist others and make sure no harm befell any. . .

"Tis a pleasure to meet you, Meena," he dipped his head once more, tail giving a gentle swish behind him. "Today I find myself solely in the company of my shadow, though I assure you it isn't entirely by choice." He didn't want to give the mare the impression he was an island or adverse to companionship. In fact, he was restless without it. . . Kaiya was off on her own personal time and Galahad found himself a little lost without one to assist and protect.

Meena nodded;
'Yeah, I guess she could have picked a worse day to send me on an errand.' the mare grinned. Her mother wasn't mean or anything but if it had been lashing with rain she would still have sent her daughter because of her worries about her friend.

'So you've a mate?' the mare found herself asking.

'Or a herd?' she hastily tacked on, trying to make it sound more of a casual question than it had first sounded. Or less like she was prying. After all, she'd only just met him and pelting him with personal questions probably wasn't endearing. It wasn't that she didn't want to go home, but delaying talking to her mother..or delaying seeing her proud younger sister that had become a mother before Meena had was okay with her.

Thankfully, though intelligent Galahad could still be considered young. He had much experience in the ways of the world when it came to traveling, or giving a helping hoof, or attempting to save the damned and the rotton. . . but there were other aspects of life the stallion knew little about. Love was one of them. . . or at least flirtation or possible interest from another mare. So Meena's innocent question about his status was taken exactly as that. . . just a question and conversation to move the day along.

Grinning and giving his long, blond tail a swish the stallion gave a shake of his head. "No mate, I fear I'm too busy for such a thing. Furthermore, I have yet to meet the right lady before I'd even consider such a thing. There is only one mare in my life, at the moment, and she is my closest-friend and my usual travel companion. . . " While some might question exactly why he followed Kaiya, Galahad could easily assure one that their relationship was strictly platonic.

Still, when it came to relationships, it was true. . .He was continuously on the run and knew it wouldn't be fair to force a mare to travel with him. He wasn't ready to settle down yet, and he couldn't bear to let Kaiya roam alone without a healer. No, he wasn't ready yet. . . .

But someday.

"As for a herd, I do come from quite the extensive family. Perhaps you may have heard of them, Islagiatt?" Tilting his head, green eyes focused only on the pretty lady before him, Galahad did wonder. It had been awhile since he'd last ventured home, but he knew that the herd had already expanded. If not by new members than, at the very least, thanks to spring time births. . . . "We're found mostly in the mountains, but a nearby valley and ocean side as well."

"And what of you, m'lady Meena, if a stallion might pry?"

'Oh?' Meena's voice dipped and rose as she said that one small word. She was glad..and then not that he didn't have a mate. Not having a mate meant she could gently flirt without worry that he'd turn around and tell her of his special love - but it also meant that she had to watch her behaviour so that she didn't come across as desperate.

'My closest friend is probably my younger sister - everyone else seems to come into my life for a short while and then I don't see them again.' she shrugged, trying to smile it off. After all, it wasn't much of a burden to be friends with Adrienne.

Meena shook her head at his question;
'Sorry, but I don't travel much. I don't think I've met anyone from that herd.'

She looked at the stallion;
'No, I'm the unmateable one - or so my sister likes joke.'
The mare tried to make light of it, as though it meant nothing. But it did hurt to be the only one of all her sisters who had never added to the family tree.

'My family is large as well - I've just never added to it.'

The unicorn listened to the mare, completely oblivious to the others desire to flirt. Though he lived a rather noble life, the stallion had never once given much thought to his appearance; he knew his mother beautiful, and his father handsome, but beyond that he didn't worry or fuss about his appearance or how he might affect the opposite gender. . .

When it came to ladies, Galahad had yet to know of the joys and besotted nature one might find in another. Though he had it in him to be hopelessly romantic, loyal and sweet. . . . .

The stallion just plum didn't recognize it in him. Not yet, at any rate.

"A shame that the ties of friendship rarely seem to last long," he quipped, giving his blond tail a lazy shake. "Though I have little room to speak. Outside of my family, I have but one friend. . .the rest, as you say, come and go far too swiftly. Though my travels, I'd imagine, don't make me an easy friend to locate." And wasn't that the truth! It couldn't be easy hanging on to close bonds, if only because he was constantly on the go.

Perhaps someday that would change.

"No matters, m'lady," Galahad grinned at the mare, giving his head a dismissive shake at her apology. "It's expansive but many of the herd keep to themselves. They tend to let others stumble across them. . . but I dare say, if you ever are near the hills and mountains, I would suggest stopping by." The majority of them were quite open to those passing through, and Yei and her family were insanely hospitable. Meena, he was certain, would be most welcome.

And then the conversation turned to mates. . . and, in a sense, children. He couldn't exactly sympathize, he himself had no children or mate of his own. And, in fact, he hadn't ever even thought twice about the subject until now. Strange really. . . . Tilting his head, green eyes brightened and he gave a small shake of his head. "If the spirits haven't gifted you with love yet, than they must be holding in to something truly special and well worth the wait. You may not have a family yet, but don't feel discouraged. I'm quite certain that love is a gift every soquili both deserves and shall find. . . sooner or later." Patience was a virtue, but he understood it was one many lacked.

Still, his words weren't meant to be patronizing, not at all! He sincerely meant them, even if he himself had never thought much about a family. Would he someday want one? Absolutely~!

. . . but he'd need a mare first. . .and a possible early retirement from his career. <<;

Meena unfortunately was older, and did know what it was to want a relationship, and to feel the first tug of the heart that meant she liked someone enough to want to see them more, and often. She'd known loss as well - the hope of finding a stallion that she could see a future with, which had become dashed when she never saw him again. She knew patience..she'd had three years of watching her sisters pair off and have children.

'Yes?' Meena nodded, trying to see the sense in his words, because despite the vow she'd made to let events happen and to be happy as she was when she was younger, she did often feel lonely.

'They must be delivering quite a stallion then, I'm an Aunt, and great-Aunt..and great great Aunt.' she said, smiling as she said it. She was proud of her extended family, but when the children of her nieces and nephews paired off before her..then she wondered what was so wrong that she couldn't do the same. Her clock was well and truly ticking, and she could do little to drown out the noise.

'Well maybe I will one day.' she said of his suggestion to dropping by the land of his herd.
'I'm not one for travelling great distances, I'm what you might call a bit of a homebody.'

She nodded at his words; it seemed he would be another passing acquiantance from all that he was saying, which was a pity as she was enjoying his company. He had a wise head, but wasn't patronising with it.

'Are you long lived in the area, were you born here?' she enquired.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 24, 2009 8:52 am

Galahad couldn't help but grin, a lazy smile lighting his features. He didn't pity her plight, but he couldn't help but feel a little anxious for her; from the sounds of things, she desired love but it hadn't exactly been kind back. The pale unicorn couldn't really understand what it meant to give one their heart, well and truly, but from the sound of things the mare knew. . .at least from an outsiders point of view. If she were an aunt three times over, than someone in her family was busy~!

"Well, who knows; those spirits can be conniving creatures from what I've come to learn. And the minute you think they give up on you or you have them figured out, they tend to leave surprises in the most unusual and unwantoned of scenarios~!" The unicorn gave another chuckle, pawing at the ground for emphasis.

Though the mare before him seemed to have given up hope, Galahad understood that patience often went rewarded. Good things come to those who wait etc. etc. etc. he'd experienced such belief first hand! How often had he thought that Kaiya might need to give up her fight on the damned? How often did he see her lose a battle of wits or prowess, to be turned away, cursed, spit and otherwise run out? But she never gave up on her love of those that needed it, and though many refused, sometimes her patience WAS rewarded; a kalona turned, a deranged and bitter soul saved and shown the way of redemption and hope. . .

If the spirits could bless Kaiya with such a thing, than he knew without a doubt that something great indeed was in store for Ms. Meena. And someday she would forget about all the anxiety and fear she possessed now.

As for the brown mares declaration of being a homebody, Galahad gave a nod and another smile. "I couldn't imagine what might have become of me had I chosen to stay home, but there are traits I miss that only a homebody could be granted. . . Like my family, and cherishing the tender moments and small things that come with such availability." There was much the stallion missed on his journey's away from Islagiatt, and sometimes he wondered if he wasn't making a mistake.

But Kaiya needed him, for now, and until that changed he wouldn't leave her side so swiftly.

"I was born and raised in the hills in Islagiatt. I trained under my father, who is a known protector there until I was just over my adolescent years. It was then that I met my friend and mentor, Kaiya, an angeni with a mission to save the world, so to speak. I've assisted her ever since, having traveled and stayed from one coast to the next." No need to give her a life story, he remembered, making sure to keep his explanation brief. In reality, he wasn't from anywhere nowadays . . .even Islagiatt was constantly changing between visits. "I fear I'm not long-lived anywhere, now that you mention it."

"And yourself, m'lady fair?"

'Well I don't want to give up, I want want my sisters have, and can only admire my mother and father's relationship.' Meena said, slightly wistfully. No matter how far they got from one another, her mother and father were always in each other's hearts. She wanted that kind of love for herself.

'I want the 'great love' you know?' she smiled, her thoughts distant for a while.

'And I want to be a mother.' there was a catch in her voice as she said it, maybe she had given up hope a little. She forced a smile, changing the subject. She was sure that this talk was probably terribly boring, and she was sure he was only being polite, but was really thinking that she was a little desperately pathetic. There were obviously more things in life; she had her health, the love of her family - but she would always feel an emptiness that had to be glossed over.

Her expression lightened and she smiled genuinely at his words;
'Oh, I was born in the Village, my mother likes the safety that being near the two-leggers affords.' she replied, after listening to him talk about himself.

'You must have had some adventures I warrant, much more than me. And seen some sights! I'd like to hear of those one day.' she said.
PostPosted: Wed Jul 29, 2009 6:44 am

The stallion listened intently to the mare, canting his head to the side ever so thoughtfully. At least she held on to hope. . . That was certainly something! And yet, it truly was a shame. . . Why was love so difficult to discover? Why could the beautiful and the loving go so long without someone to call their own . . .? Galahad understood the beauty found in love. . . and yet. . . this was the first time he had actually conversed about such a thing. Kaiya and he were much too busy saving the damned to think about settling down. . .

And yet. . . . what would his future bring?

When he was ready, would he struggle to find the perfect mare? And yet. . . who was perfect? The thought of finding love, of falling in love, was something the green eyed unicorn had yet to truly understand. It was something he hadn't thought of and yet, would the spirits be so kind to let him know when it would happen? Ah. . . but such things were to be mulled upon at a later date.

For now, his focus was upon the pretty mare, Meena.

Smiling gently, the stallion gave an appreciative nod. "With such a desire for love I can only hope you will find it. I still stand by that perhaps the spirits are holding out on someone amazing. . . . Love is the greatest gift, the greatest power and it is quite clear you are already in possession of such an emotion. I don't see why you can't find your great love, your romance, or be blessed with a family either. . . I only wish I knew where such a dashing fellow might reside!"

The spirits had caused them to cross paths for a reason; was he to be a pillar of strength and hope for the mare? Was he to be an ear to hear her woes and concerns. . .? Or was there more to this meeting than he fully understood?

Only the spirits knew . . . and they often played riddles to keep one guessing.

"Ah, I have witnessed many a village of two-leggers; but I'll admit, I have yet to meet one. I've watched from a distance, and Kaiya, my mentor, has transformed in to one from time to time . . . . but. . . they are a mystery to me. One I haven't had time to unravel," he added with another easy grin, tail swishing lazily behind him.

"I've had some adventure, but I suppose it comes with the territory. In fact," he blinked, "it seems to be a defintion of all those within Islagiatt." Oh the stories he had come to know from within his herd; the plight and great love affair of Yei and Grencia, all of their children, his father's great battle, his mother's healing and great heart. . . . Truly, his stories were nothing compared to some of the great adventures within Islagiatt.

"Ah, but whenever the lady pleases. . . It isn't often I get to share stories of my travels with anyone."

'I hope that to, every day.' Meena said, and then gave a small laugh.

'I'm sure listening to me go on and on about my hopes for a relationship is very boring, you must think I live a small life.' she gave a self deprecating laugh, pulling a face at herself.

'Really? I find it quite normal to be around them, but I was born here as I said, and seeing them on their two legs has become just an every day occurrence. Those that I know, they're kind, and always eager to give some of their sweeter foods.'

Meena nodded;
'I'd love to hear your tales!' she nodded with enthusiasm.
'You cannot imagine how dull female chatter gets after a while.'

She loved her home, loved her family, but to imagine herself elsewhere, and doing bold and new things..that would be a great escape for a while.
