AIM LOG: Manda & _ p a o cx Once more, Iar found himself out patrolling the borders of the lands. He didn't really -need- to do this so much anymore, now that his pride was growing larger and there were not so many young ones about. But he still liked to go out at times, see what was going on. Find out if he could catch ... intruders. Teach them a bit of a lesson. Smirking faintly, he purred to himself as he topped a little rise, looking over the plains before him.She'd only been home for not even the greater part of the day before she went off again. It was her duty as the Baridi, she knew, but she couldn't help but feel homesick after all this. Prior to her recent return, the last time she'd been back within pridal borders had been almost two whole moons ago. It was normal that she'd miss being among her fellow pride members, though half of them didn't even know what it was that she really did. She was good at keeping secrets anyway, so that didn't really matter. Tumaini moved swiftly across the plains, mind set on her next mission, and nothing else.It was then... that Iar spotted a speck moving off in the distance. Well... what was this? Growling softly, he flexed claws into the dirt - considering. To leave whatever it was alone, or to go and investigate? Glancing behind him... the demon king abruptly decided - investigate. After all, perhaps he might find something to amuse himself for a while.Eyes trained only on the path just ahead of her, Mai had failed noticed that there was someone coming her way. By the time she noticed she'd gotten a little too close to easily slip away in a different direction. She'd have to confront whoever it was, so instead the lioness skid to a stop and waited for the other to close in the distance between them. She remained standing, eyes carefully watching the other (lion, she determined) make its way over, and when she realized who it was that was approaching she narrowed her eyes. At that point she knew it this encounter wouldn't end on a peaceful note..Iar stared at the female as he got closer, making no attempt at all to hide his approach. If she was smart... she would run. But when she just stood there, he growled softly. "Who are you?" he called then, puffing chest up and making his bone ornaments rattle a bit.

It'd been a little too late to make a break for it by the time she actually realized who it was, but her not moving didn't, by any means, mean that she was petrified. Leader of the demon pride or not, she was confident enough in her abilities, even if put up against him. "Tumaini, of a neighboring pride." That was all she'd tell him. For now, anyway. "I already know who you are, so you don't have to bother with an introduction. What brings one of your status out this close to the roguelands?" The lioness kept a close eye on him, while at the same looking for the fastest way out of the area as soon as their conversation came to a close. The faster she got away the better..
Iar blinked at that... and then tilted head at the lioness. Bold, wasn't she? "Entertainment," he replied with a smirk. He considered perhaps attemping to drag her back as his slave... but discarded the idea after a moment. He didn't want to go through the trouble right now. Better to make sure and find one that was weak and could be easily taught.
Mai didn't much like the look Iar held in his eyes. It was a cold, sort of mischievous gleam that she was sure charmed a dozen other lionesses. But it wouldn't work on her, not a chance. "Entertainment?" she asked, eyes narrowing even more. "Don't you get enough of that in your pride?" she asked, her voice almost losing its usual stoic tone. "And besides, what entertainment could possibly found out here?"
"Entertainment comes in many forms," Iar replied at that, smirk growing just wider. "For example..." he stalked closer, as if to see what she might do...
She took a step back when he stepped forward, a low growl escaping her as her eyes darted from one path to the next, looking for the best way out of the situation. She would stand her ground if it came to it, but for she had a message to relay to an ally pride and she couldn't afford to waste time fighting. Mai narrowed her eyes as she took another step back, having already determined the best way out. All she had to do was wait for the proper timing.

"See!" Iar said, grinning suddenly. "You try to run..." he purred. Wondering if she could actually escape him, he darted toward her quite suddenly with a roar. This was entertainment!
That was it! At his sudden roar Mai darted forward as well, claws extended and aimed at Iar's face. With a roar of her own she tried to strike at him, though whether she hit or not she didn't know. The path she knew she had to take was just past the demon of a lion, and once she was back on all fours she made a break for it. She ran as fast as her legs could go, never once looking back to see if the other was hot on her tail. She couldn't afford to get caught. It wasn't an option.
Iar flinched back when her claws scored one cheek - but he whirled quickly and gave chase with another roar. No one was about to get away with that! Not today... and a chase could be fun too... indeed.
She'd been doing well, actually, and she felt confident that she'd outrun him. With that confidence the lioness glanced back, a mistake, perhaps, that would cost her her life. In the instant that she caught sight of the large lion still on her tail, her forepaw caught the upturned edge of a sharp stone, cutting through a good portion of her ankle and causing her to trip and land on her side with a loud thud. It was too sudden, and as soon as she figured out that she'd fallen she felt the pain surging through her entire body. "s**t...." she murmured, trying to get up only to fall down again. "C'mon Mai.." she said in a shaky voice, eyes darting toward Iar's fast approaching figure.
Oh that was nice! She had just managed to seal her own fate! Iar didn't intend to kill, though ...oh no. That would be too easy. It had been some time since he'd had a toy to play with, even for a little while. And though he knew he wouldn't be keeping this one, he could still play for a bit. Slowing down to almost saunter toward her, he called out, "You're losing the game..."

Mai gave it one last shot, and before he was right by her side she managed to get up on her feet. Naturally she kept her injured paw from touching the ground, eyes narrowed as she watched him saunter right over to her. She'd stand her ground as best she could, but she felt her confidence slowly slipping away. She had to fight though, even if she was injured.. somehow...
Iar stopped, tilting head. "Not going to run anymore?" he asked, paws kneading at the ground. Perhaps she would try to fight him now... that could be entertaining as well. Before he won this little game, of course...
She didn't reply to his somewhat mocking question, still glowering at him. She couldn't take it, losing to the likes of him. Her pride wouldn't have it, so with a roar she dashed toward him, ignoring the sudden surge of pain that almost rendered her leg numb when she stepped on her injured paw when she pushed herself off the ground in an attempted to tackle the larger lion to the ground. She just needed to pin him and take one good shot.. that was all - just one shot and she'd be able to get away..
Iar laughed at her attempt however and twisted out of the way with a smirk. Then, he pinned -her- instead and closed jaw about her neck threateningly until she stopped struggling - though he didn't bite down. "Now... you really -are- going to be entertaining," he purred, voice low and dark.
