Things hadn't been going well for this roving male. He hadn't run across a female since the Swamplands. Where he'd brushed against love. But he wasn't sure it was going to last between them. He didn't want to join the pride. No, Vestip didn't feel like he belonged in any pride. He was roving, never going to settle down unless the female would accept him having flings with other females, and still traveled with him.
"Can't get that lucky," he murmured to himself, looking to the rising sun. He'd gotten up extremely early this morning, hunted, and was currently looking for a place to nap off all the meat from his kill. He'd left it there for a pack of wild dogs to eat. More often than not Vestip took pity on those animals who couldn't hunt big game like he could. Swiftly, silently and by himself. There were so many pups with those two parents, too. "Bah, pups, cubs.. Definitely spring in the air. Baby explosion."

Weyard had felt awe each day of her travels. This place...it was nothing like her home. Far to the south, her home was much drier, much cooler, and all the plants were different. The grass was longer and yellowed...there were areas of sand that stretched out of sight. Vast jungles so thick no light got to the ground. Many a day she'd wondered what she'd gotten herself into, wandering willingly so far from home. She had made some friends though, and with their help begun to adapt to this strange new world. Luckily she had yet to meet anyone unsavory, and she had begun to think that just maybe she would get to really like this place, and one day call her family to join her here.
She'd found a half eaten carcass earlier, and to her surprise been invited in by a family of dogs. She'd been careful to eat only a little (they had pups with them, at least four) and gave her thanks before leaving. That was another unusual thing. The wild dogs were much different at home, crafty and to be untrusted. Maybe she'd just been lucky though with this family.
As she wandered her thoughts did too, and that was what led her to Vestip. Literally. "Oof!" She stumbled, tripping over the poor fellow she'd blundered right into. "Ach, I'm sorry. I'm afraid my thoughts ran away from me for a time. I didn't hurt you did I?" He seemed alright, but she was a rather large, heavy female...

His thoughts were interrupted by someone running into him. With a grunt, he fell over and groaned heavily. Ok, that hurt. Murmuring as he got up, he was going to tell off whoever ran into him. But, his jade eyes were met with brilliant yellow orbs and a brightly colored female. With a frown he gave himself a shake, trying to think of something to say, something clever.
"Oh, yeah, hon. I'm fine. Not a bruise on me," he said, a smirk, coming across his maw. He could only pray he wasn't full of twigs or leaves or anything. "No biggie."
He did notice she was a bit bigger and bulkier than most females, but it didn't bother him any. A female was something to flirt with. Or rather, someone to flirt with. Vestip gave a purr and flicked his mane from his face. "Name's Vestip. What might your name be, wingless Angel?"

Weyard waited anxiously while the male righted himself. She was far from home and in a strange land, and here she'd gone and tripped right over one of the natives. What if he was important! She might have just insulted a whole pride...but then, he didn't look like a king or anything. He certainly was smaller than her...but then maybe that's how lions were here. "You're certain?" She visibly relaxed and shook her head. "I must apologize, I wasn't minding my feet.
She watched his antics with thinly veiled curiosity. Was this sort of thing...normal for these northern folk? It didn't occur to her that her home pride was rather restrained and discreet with these sort of things...openly flirting was a rarity, and unknowing how to respond, she chose not to. "I'm Weyard," was her simple answer. "Oh, hold a moment." She leaned in and tugged a bit of brush from the other's mane. "There. You're sure I didn't hurt you?"

Not responding to his charms didn't phase this lion one bit. His happy grin faltered as she picked that brush from his mane and he rolled his eyes. "Of course I'm fine. Takes more than that to hurt me," he purred out at her. If she looked close enough, she could tell Vestip was far from royalty and had no pride to call his own. He was dusty, ragged and hardly groomed, but he still managed to look good. Or so he thought. No, he knew he looked remarkable. Tail flicking a bit, he moved closer to her and gave her a thankful nuzzle to her cheek and then trotted a complete circle, ended up right in front of her again.
"Weyard? What a lovely name," he commented, nodding a bit. "Suits you, I think. Rolls off the tongue and matches your charming beauty." It didn't matter to Vestip how big she was. Perhaps she'd present more of a challenge than most did to his quirky charm.

Wey held still through the nuzzle. It wasn't a gesture she was used to, but she'd seen folks use it casually like this from afar in these lands. Must be some cultural thing. It didn't bother her at least, and so she let Vestip do it.
She craned her neck around as he circled her, trying to keep her eye on him. Somehow she was starting to feel a bit wary. He was...certainly very open with what he was thinking. "I suppose I should thank you for your kind words, Vestip. Stand in one place, if you don't mind." She bluntly reprimanded him, not liking how he was looking at her...and at once liking it, and that made her even more concerned.

The male brushed up against her as he came to a stop, giving her ear a playful n**. He was standing beside her, head tilted, watching the female closely. "Well now... You're blunt with what you want. Seems like this'll be a lot of fun. Never had a female tell me what she wanted," he purred out and leered, nuzzling her again. He'd end up getting himself hurt one of these days, by doing this.
With a little puff, he attempted to start grooming her cheek and neck, wanting her to be relaxed and comfortable. It made things so much easier.

Unfortunately for Vestip, it seemed today was that day. Even as the male's tongue grazed over her cheek she was shrugging away from him, and her paw swooped through the air to cuff him over the head. It wasn't too hard a hit, but it would likely be enough to discourage him. "Now, sir, you're being a bit forward. Or in this land do all strangers groom each other?" Her question was tinged with sincerity. If this was the land her people would come to it'd do to know what they could expect.
She harrumphed, her nose a bit in the air. "And what, might I ask, are you implying will be fun?" He was so...forward! It was at once revolting and strangely charming. At once she felt somewhat good, knowing she'd attracted him enough to flirt, but she really...suffice to say this was not the time or place, and he was certainly not the right lion! Ugh, if the elders saw her allowing a stranger to groom her they'd likely drop dead of heart attacks. Still...
"What I want is for you to stop all your nonsense, stand still, and tell me you're alright so that I can get on. I've got places to go and people to meet. You're not part of a pride, are you? If you are then, well, I'll just talk to you."

Discouraged? Far from it; though it did catch his attention and make him jerk back a bit. He moved away, in front of her and sat still as she'd asked of him, his eyes still gleaming, the grin still in place. It seemed he didn't want her to actually leave despite what she wanted.
"What would be fun was me.... with you for a night," bluntly said, he knew, but she didn't get subtle. "As for part of a pride? No. I do take refuge in the borders of prides so I can actually sleep at night without anyone getting curious or anything. He thought about that for a moment, wondering why the female wanted to know.

Wait wait wait. Wait just one minute here now. His answer to her questions beyond what he thought was fun were lost on her. She knew certainly now what he wanted. "You...ruffian!" She growled and took another swing at him. "You think it's alright to proposition someone you just met? What...what kind of people do such a thing as that?"
She took a step back from the male. "Vestip I'm sorry, but any respectable female won't just...give you a night. It takes courtship and work, you know! There's a certain way to pursue a female, and that won't get you anywhere!" Somehow she'd redirected her anger into the need to educate the poor fellow. He obviously hadn't been raised with anything like proper morals. "Now if you'd wanted to do it the RIGHT way you'd..."
((Want to just let it trail off, assume over the next few days she explains how it's proper to woo someone, and in the end they do have a night together because he's a bit too good at wooing, leading to the one cub?))
