Samurai Warriors: Katana
Released: 1/15/08
System: Wii
Player(s): 1 Player

Story:
The game is in 1st Person view and the player is the character. You choose a side an alliance then fight through battles set up in a story line along side popular samurai warrior characters. (So in this game you're never any of those characters...)
Following a story mode you lead your force to a complete victory allowing your lord to become ruler or Japan.

Game play: Fighting/1st person view
In this samurai warriors you play as yourself in 1st person view only. After choosing a side to fight alongside you progress through a story line choosing when you'd like to start certain battles. Counting on what you do in the story counts on your ranking. As you progress you gain more weapons. The player has a choice of two kinds of weapons. One range and one close up. (for example: range= arrows or guns/ close up=sword/spears ect...)

It's OK. The cover threw me off. I thought you could be those characters.
To be honest it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. It's good to occasionally play but it's not the kind of game that really got me hooked and it had a lot of downfalls. For one, I was quite disappointed when I found out that I couldn't be one of the main Samurai warrior characters. Instead I was just a samurai (which is fine but I think they should allow you to choose if you want to be just an normal fighter or a special samurai warrior character like previous samurai warrior games).

Then there was the fighting style. The idea of 1st person wasn't bad and swinging the wii remote indicated how you swung your weapon (like the sword for example) was exciting in a sense. However! The downfall was this: they didn't allow you to MOVE! No kidding. After you begin in the battle field, the camera moves you from point to point and you have to kill every enemy that appeared in front of you. There was only two(?) missions where you could actually move around yourself and slash with your other controller but that was it! Honestly, those levels were a lot of fun being able to move around the map in 1st person and slashing away...too bad they didn't do it for the whole game.

The good side to their fighting 1st person idea was how you can use one controller for a close range weapon and the other for a far range (like arrow/gun) weapon. It was fun how you can switch easily between the two.
