He barely concealed a yawn behind his head, eyes held open at half-mast, which was just enough to take in his surroundings. Erisi had never been a morning person, and rather was the farthest thing from it. The only reason he was up so early was that he could climb out of his previous night's partner's bed before they got too clingy. Faranth, he hated it when they clung to him. Eventually the Weyr would understand that Erisi was the prize that only came around once. He wasn't interested in a relationship, nor was he the least bit open to having one. Anyways, he was a Candidate, and he was sure that his behavior was not the least bit acceptable by Weyr standards. But, shells, they had to find a way to keep all of these people entertained, and Erisi was only doing his part.

At least it was fun for him.

It wasn't so much fun after wards for anyone but himself. But that was how the bubbly pie's crust crumbled.

His blue eyes glanced warily over his shoulder, half-expecting his bed mate to show up behind him and invite him to eat next to him. Erisi already had the perfect reply thought up ahead of time, and it would assure that Erisi got to eat alone. He wasn't the nicest of characters when it came to rejecting others, but he thought that the best policy was just to be blunt so they both could move on to other people to fool around with.

Surprisingly, Erisi never really outwardly looked for people. Most people just seemed to know that he was open to it, and would approach him. That didn't mean that if someone was attractive enough, he might playfully flirt with them to see where it goes. For the moment, though, his mind was distracted by his body's raging desire for some food, and so with a low grumble, he grabbed a plate and began to serve his breakfast. He picked out a few meats and eggs, but was more drawn towards the morning pastries, which soon filled his plate more-so than the eggs and meat combined.

The sight of his plate piled high made him smile, and he looked phenomenally better when he smiled over his usual plain [removed](or his next most used expressions - the frown, scowl, or even glower). He took his plate of food and a cup of water, and sat down at one of the tables to enjoy his meal in peace.

A young woman, younger than she looked, already sat at the rough hewn table, an expression of reserved dislike on her face as she poked at the crust of her meat pie.

"Abomination," She muttered under her breath when her fork didn't shatter the thin layer of crust upon contact. It was her first morning at the Weyr, her items still within her ruksack, heaved under her bed the night before. It was such a strange place, so loud and filled with strangers that it was making Kriia's head spin. She had chosen a table as far out of the other candidates way on purpose, trying to keep them from figuring out there was yet another candidate freshly plucked from her family. But it seemed that this new arrival was not going to have any peace and quiet this morning.

Looking up, Kiriia was pleased to see that the young man was a candidate such as herself, and wasn't about to tell her that there had been a mistake, she had not been searched at all and it was all a cruel, cruel joke. In fact, the smile on his face put the usually awkward girl at ease, and she smiled sweetly up at him. This was the sort of smile that made men and women alike swoon, as there was not a trace of malice or want in her eyes- the fact that she was content to merely smile showed through on her face. Her eyes widened when she noticed the sheer amount of food the boy had heaped on his plate, much more than even her father had placed on his. Her two brothers were much younger than her and she was barely out of puberty herself, so her knowledge of males was strictly based on the short contact she had with the older gentlemen in her families shop. Which was not knowledge of any sort, as they only seemed to buy what she offered them, after they had asked for her opinion.

"I- wanted to be alone," Kriia said quietly, the smile still half on her face. Realizing her error, she covered her mouth with her small hands, the blush already splotching over her neck, "Oh dear. I mean, um. The table is free if you want to sit?"

He hard hardly realized that he had sat down across from a young woman (or so she appeared to be to him), but when he did notice her, it was hard to look away. Faranth, she was cute, prettier then most of the women he had experienced the pleasure of bedding in the past. There was a sweetened innocence to her, as if touching her could break and shatter the perfection that was there. He could swear he was in love for those first, brief moments, and that only confirmed his own opinion that he was indeed straight. But the feelings of 'love' passed quickly, replaced by the one emotional he was beginning to feel too connected to - desire.

When she smiled, it seemed as if her innocence had been tripled, and he almost felt shamed for desiring her. He pushed that initial want down, instead lowering his gaze back to his plate and taking a bite out of one of the pastries. To him, this was about as good as they got, and what was better was that they were free now. He didn't have to think about tithes, all he got to care about was whether the food was poorer than yesterday or not. He decided that it was better, and would have been content to eat in continued silence for a few more moments if Kriia had not spoken up just then.

He blinked.

Once.

Twice.

He stared.

"Eh?" It wasn't one of his more graceful replies (and definitely not one of his mean ones), because he was genuinely shocked that she had just told him she wanted to sit alone after she had smiled at him. He was male, for crying out loud, he wasn't supposed to have to interpret these sort of things so soon in a conversation. He just settled for giving her one of his less renowned 'stupid' looks. "Excuse... me?"

He watched her stumble for a correction for a brief few seconds, an eyebrow arching in wonderment as her neck reddened instead of her cheeks. Was that natural? Surely not. Perhaps she was ill, or worse had some sort of disease he did not want to contract by sleeping with her... "Ah, thanks. I'd like to." He smiled at her despite his train of thoughts. "I'm Erisi," he introduced.

Eh, maybe he could risk contracting a disease - she was certainly pretty enough for it.

Completely oblivious to the treacherous feelings the boy was having for her, Kriia continued mauling the sad piece of pastry, listing what was wrong with it in her head. She'd never speak to the kitchen staff of course, but when her parents asked what the food was like they didn't want to hear "fine" or "good"; they wanted a detailed explanation of the articles in question.

Still feeling embarrassed and baffled at her botched reply, Kriia spent a few moments with her eyes downcast, the back of her wrists on her hot red neck. Her long flaxen hair shifted over her face, and she flicked it back, the practiced move of every pretty good that ever lived, save this one had no idea what she was doing or why- these movements came completely natural to her.

Finally feeling at ease again, Kriia reached one tanned hand across the table, to Erisi.

"I'm Kriia; nice to meet you Erisi,"

The boy was good looking, Kriia decided belatedly, but the thought didn't go further than that. Even thinking about boys embarrassed her, even when she didn't voice anything. This was possibly dangerous behaviour in a place that her parents called "lewd, open, disastrous relationships". Kriia didn't entirely know what they meant, and just chalked it down to the dragonriders being great friends with one another. Kriia wouldn't mind being a part of it.

It sounded wonderful.

Was... she flirting with him?

He couldn't tell, because she was either doing an excellent job at playing coy, or she was oblivious. Thinking that no one could be that oblivious to the very actions they were committing, he concluded that she was flirting with him just lightly. Well, well, well, he'd have to see where this took him, though he was sure he'd not be up for anything today. He was tired and sore; his last partner had done a mighty fine job of keeping him into the wee candlemarks of the morning. It had been a great time, though, and he imagined that his partner was still passed out on top of the sheets, dreaming of him and the long night they had spent together.

It would have almost been romantic if Erisi had any interest in that sort of thing.

His gaze flickered briefly down to her outstretched hand, and with another smile he shook it firmly before returning to his meal. "It's nice to meet you as well. Are you new here? I haven't seen you before, but then again, I haven't been here terribly long myself." The best way to see how she felt about him was to engage her in conversation and carefully observe the gestures she made while she spoke. He knew what would be inviting and what would say 'I'm off limits'. Faranth, he had practiced such techniques before when someone was interested in him. That was, of course, until he realized that it was just better to say what he wanted so things couldn't be misinterpreted... like this.

He still couldn't determine whether she was in to him or not, and so he wasn't going to start taking risks yet. No, he was going to lay low and play it cool, and eat his pastries. He was seventeen turns old, and reaching the last of his growth spurts, so food was a valuable and treasured commodity.

Erisi put it above sex, at least.

Kriia squeezed back with considerable force (thanks to the hours of kneading dough when even 14 hands wasn't enough) and settled back down to dismantle her breakfast. Deciding it was a lot cause, Kriia settled on eating one of the oranges she had slipped in to her pocket. It smelled divine, like a summer breeze and she half purred in contentment. At least the kitchens couldn't screw up a piece of fruit.

She wasn't sure what to make of Erisi, as she had a strong feeling of deja vu with him- she wondered idly if perhaps she had met him before, but she decided that with features like his, the chance was slim that she had met him and forgotten the meeting- like Kriia herself, his features were somewhat dramatic and hard to forget.

"Yes, I'm new. I just arrived last night, and I don't even know what we're supposed to do- we barely talked about the dragonriders at home, it just wasn't as interesting as sweet breads and bubbly pie," leaning on to the table, and cradling her head in her hands, Kriia was the picture of sweetness, "I'd never even seen a dragon up close till yesterday. They are very..." Kriia searched for the word, her green eyes crinkled in thought, " Large."

Without meaning to, Kriia was giving off an almost physically distinct message of "take me I'm yours!". Which was unfortunate to the young girl as her own personal thoughts on the matter of love were nil. She had always expected to marry someone her parents thought desirable and create a brood of children- she hadn't the slightest idea how it was done.

He stared down at his hand briefly, pondering whether he should murmur 'ow' or not, because, shells, she had one hell of a grip. It was probably useful in the bedroom... though Erisi immediately grimaced at the thought of that strength gripping him unkindly. Maybe it was part of his mental debate on whether he wanted to pursue her or not, but the fact that she was pretty, and that she was a girl, was playing heavily in her favor (of getting laid - which was the last thing she actually wanted). So, closing his fist briefly, he stretched out his fingers until the soreness dissipated. Then it was back to his meal, which he ate wholly more eagerly than Kriia, but that was attributed to him growing and simply being male. Thank Faranth he had a high metabolism rate.

He nodded his understanding, because back at Ista Hold, people complained more about dragonriders and the tithes set on the Hold than spoke about how good they were. Quite frankly, dragonriders didn't matter much to those already settled in a craft (though Erisi's stature as a Harper Apprentice was wavering most of the time - he couldn't help it that he was unbearable to them). Erisi had only considered becoming a dragon rider once the appeal of being a Harper died. There was only so much arguing that Erisi could put up before he got sincerely and truly annoyed.

"Yeah, I felt that way when I first got here. But, soon you'll be kept busy enough with chores and other things," he replied, with just a little bit of emphasis on the word 'other'. If she was flirting with him, she should be able to catch on to what fell in the category of 'Other'. Though, even if she did catch on, she could likely continue playing hard-to-get. He hoped not, because it was just too early in the morning for him to play the game, or at least be fully into it.

He was still glancing to the entrance way every now and again to make sure that his dragonrider companion would not slip through and spot him. Maybe he could make himself invisible behind Kriia and avoid all trouble to begin with.

"Hmm? Oh, yeah, they're definitely big, but pretty friendly... I think."

Finishing her orange with a satisfied sigh, Kriia turned her attention back on the young man. Older than her, and wearing the uniform of a candidate, Kriia wondered briefly if he was the one assigned to tell her what to do, because she hadn't the slightest idea of these so called chores she was about to be thrust in to.

"Chores?" Kriia echoed quietly, interested again, " What sort of chores? Like making our beds and... sweeping?"

Kriia wracked her brain, trying to figure out what sorts of chores they were supposed to be doing. There weren't many chores at the bakery, other than general cleaning and the washing of pots at the end of the day. Kriia realized it was going to be a lot more work than she had previously imagined when it came to being a candidate.

"How does one become a dragonrider anyway?"

Full of questions, Kriia blatantly ignored the other things, lumping them in with the chores.

He had to arch a brow high upon his forehead as Kriia tried to figure out what kind of chores she was supposed to do, if only because she mentioned making beds so innocently when the comment that prelude it was far from innocent. Either she knew how to play this game well, or she was completely oblivious. Erisi couldn't quite figure out which it was, but he was going with the alternative that pleased him the most. She was flirting with him, inviting him, and he certainly would not turn away a pretty girl. "Oh, there are a lot more chores than just making the bed, though that's probably the most enjoyable of the bunch." Of course, it was far much more fun to mess the bed instead of make it, but he wasn't going to be quite that blatant just yet. This was a game he could play for quite a long time, if she enjoyed the chase just as much as the capture.

Erisi paused, staring blankly at her for a few seconds. What kind of question was that? Didn't everyone know how a dragonrider was made? Was she... lacking a few bright glows? Probably, but she was pretty enough to make up for it. Shells, she was pretty enough to get away with whatever she wanted. If he was the type for permanent relationships, he'd let her sleep around, because she was just too gorgeous to keep to himself. He had to spread the love around a little bit, Faranth. "Uhh... well, I thought someone would have told you..."

Really, this was almost awkward with how blind she was to the going-ons of the Weyr she was trying to Impress in. "You... just... Impress a dragonet, go through Weyrling Training and graduate... and then congrats, you're a dragonrider?"

He hoped that wasn't what she was asking of him, because while he could suffer the embarrassment of answering the question wrongly, he could hardly suffer the embarrassment for her for not knowing.

This was possibly the longest conversation Kriia had had with a male outside of her own family, and she was mucking it up with asking silly questions. Of course, she realized you had to impress a dragonet, but her question was more the how of the matter. But the boy seemed to be so eager to help her understand that Kriia wanted him to think that she had understood. Not knowing things really irked her, and in such a new environment, she found that she was understandably lost.

"I really haven't talked to anyone- just you, and a girl I met down by the hatching sands. She was rather..." Kriia searched for the word, "... nice? Well, she was awfully sure of herself. I made my own way here, I grew up in Ista Hold. My family are cook craftsmen. I just didn't belong."

This was stated matter of factly. Kriia had no time for melancholy feelings. Blast it, she hated this first day. She loved order and organization and not knowing where she was supposed to go, what she was supposed to do was really grating on her nerves. The boy was alluding to something else, Kriia could figure that much out, but for the life of her she would never have thought that someone could be so full of sexual tension and lust. It just... wasn't spoken of that much in her family, and she was still so young. Her parents never dreamed that she was to be taken from them so early but here she was. Had Erisi been part of her parenting, it would have been a hell of a lot more interesting. And less frustrating for Kriia, who was only understanding half the conversation.

"I'm sorry I'm sounding so dim, but I haven't the slightest idea of what I am expected to do once we leave this table. I don't even have the right clothing," Kriia gestured to Erisi's robes, "and I really should get out of these travelling clothes. I stick out too much looking like this."

It was getting increasingly more difficult to listen to her talk when all he wanted to do was drink in the sight of her and think of ways to draw her back to the barracks for some time alone together. Then, he didn't think he should be that blunt, so he would have to wait it out, see if she wanted to invite him out of this environment and into a new one. If she didn't, well, he'd have to take the first steps, but he was being cautious when her body language and words were sending mixed signals over to him. "Hmmm?" he realized he had lost his place in the conversation, his head bowing to cover up his mistake, making it seem as if he hummed a pleased comment about the food he was currently nibbling away at. He let her talk for a few more seconds before he realized what she was going on about.

Faranth, he hated idle chit-chat when there were other, more important things on his mind.

"She doesn't sound entirely pleasant, you make it seem like she was a little too sure of herself." He applauded himself silently for managing not to look like a deadglow in front of her. "You made your own way?" he arched a curious brow at her. "I just got Searched and got out of Ista Hold as quickly as possible. I didn't want to be a Harper all that much." Really, he just hadn't liked the people he was made to be around, mostly because he had been given plenty of time to make them all hate him and vice versa.

He wanted to take it easy - Faranth, he had been laid just last night - but she was too adorable, too tempting, and it was taking quite a bit of restraint to remain seated and not sliding over the table to sit down next to her... He shook his head, banishing those kinds of thoughts while he still could. Really, he was going to get ahead of himself at this rate. "No, it's really all right." She was pretty enough that being dim was perfectly okay in his books.

But then she presented an opportunity to him, and he latched onto it immediately. "We can head back to the candidate barracks and get you into something... appropriate to wear." Well, what he considered appropriate was nothing at all, but he didn't want to be that blunt. "I'm sure we can try and tailor someone's robes to fit you, or rather I'm sure there's plenty of spare ones around for you to squeeze into."

Kriia covered her mouth, embarrassed again.

"Oh, I was searched as well- I didn't think that was important. I'm so stupid, I don't know anything about this place. It might as well be an unexplored bit of the Souther Continent, I'd know about the same amount."

Latching on to the idea of doing something constructive, Kriia brightened.

"Oh thank goodness, I hate being noticeably new," Kriia paused, and noticed a boy shooting daggers at the two of them, "Oh dear. Don't look now Eri, but I think someone's mad at you."

Kriia was enjoying herself. The conversation was pleasant, the boy was willing to help her out (more than anyone else so far) and there were no slimey old men trying to peer down her shift when she bent over.

Yet.
